  1. Huh! Did you see my post above about Maneuver Planner not unlocking with Advanced Flight Control like it should? Jim hasn't responded yet, but I assume that's just because he's working on figuring it out...
  2. The Maneuver Planner is not unlocking with Advanced Flight Control. This is with the new version of KSP and MechJeb2-2.8.1.0-830 Before you research Advanced Flight Control, the Maneuver Planner is still showing as unlocked with that, uhh, what shall we call it? increment of research? But once you research Advanced Flight Control, the Maneuver Planner is not available. Yes, I'm checking this outdoors, no I'm not committing the n00b mistake of thinking it will show up in the VAB. Yes, I started a fresh game with the new KSP version. Yes, I have an MJ case on my rocket. Hmm, have I covered all the obvious bases? If not, I'm sure my fellow rocketheads will remind me ************************ EDIT ************************* I have done some more poking around, looking at this, and found that of the six modules that are supposed/alleged to unlock with Advanced Flight Control... - Maneuver Planner, Translatron, Warp Helper, Attitude Adjuster, Thrust Window, & RCS Balancer ...it is only Maneuver Planner and Thrust Window that do not. The other four modules unlock correctly. Perhaps this will help track down what Squad have done to bust our balls this time
  3. This is exactly what happens to me when I use anything but "Classic Ascent Profile". Either "Stock Style" or "PEG" gives me exactly what you describe, they just arc over and come back down without ever making it out of the atmosphere.
  4. OK, got it, thanks very much for the explanation. I always wondered what that window was about. For me, the Hybrid Controller didn't seem to make any noticeable difference, but then again, I wasn't having a problem to begin with.
  5. Jim, I have downloaded 823, and I must confess I have no idea what is "Hybrid Controller" or how to select it. I was thinking it was that little dropdown near bottom of Ascent Guidance window, but that says- Classic Ascent Profile Stock style gravity turn Powered explicit guidance So I'm lost. Would you please be so kind as to enlighten my ignorance?
  6. Thanks, Jim, that's great. Do you have an alternate download source, while Jenkins is down?
  7. Apologies for that, Sarbian. You shouldn't have to put up with such ****ty little comments, but some people's children don't seem to understand that you volunteer your time to support a free program, or perhaps they never heard that old saw about "never look a gift horse in the mouth". Your efforts are deeply appreciated by the vast majority of us.
  8. JH4C, thank you for the courtesy of your reply. I got mine from the dev side, which is here - https://ksp.sarbian.com/jenkins/job/MechJeb2-Dev/ ...and even right now is still showing 2.7.4, though 812 was released about 14 hours ago. I honestly don't pretend to understand , but that's what happened
  9. My secondary HD died over the weekend, and I was forced to do a fresh install of KSC. Then I downloaded the latest MJ, which was 2.7.4.0-811 Everything seems to work fine, but I am still getting that startup message about how MJ2 is incompatible, blah blah blah. Obviously, this isn't really a problem, so long as it works, but I thought I'd mention it. Again this is a fresh install of latest KSP 1.5.1.2335 (WindowsPlayer x64) en-us plus MechJeb2 2.7.4.0-811 and nothing else - no other mods or custom content of any kind, on Windows 10 Pro 64
  10. Uh oh It looks like a new version of KSP just dropped. I wonder if they've broken things all over again. I think maybe I'll go play some Half-Life and wait to see what the community has to say...
  11. Wow, that is slicker than cat**** on linoleum! I just did a rescue mission, one waaaaaayyy out there (Ap 7500km, Pe 5700km) and about 35-40 degrees off-plane as well, and only used about 1200 dV doing it from 200km flat Kerbin orbit. I used the bi-impulsive hoho with the craft to be rescued as my target, and you're right, it's not just moons and planets anymore. Then once that maneuver was complete, I called up the Rendevous Planner and used "match velocities at closest approach". Then a "get closer", another "match velocities" and I was stationary 30 meters from my target. That is so much easier. Thank you, IntoSpaceAgain, for explaining the crucial point that now Target can be almost anything, and of course a huge thank you to Jim DiGriz for coding this little gem.
  12. Jim, the part I don't understand is - how would this work? If you're doing a Hohmann your target is a planet or moon, right? Usually a moon. So how would you target the satellite you want to lead by the 90 degrees? In your example photo above, you appear to have 4 satellites equally spaced around Kerbin, but how would you do a Hohmann to Kerbin? I mean, from where would you be starting? I'm totally confused by all this...
  13. Quoted from changelog - "Allow pinning of PAWs and resource transfer for highlighted parts from Resources App." Ahhhhh, this is Bravo Romeo Six actual. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over? App? APP? this isn't a ******* cellphone we're talking about here, just what do they mean by "app", and what on earth is a PAW?
  14. Most excellent work, Jim. My grasp of mathematics is at the high school algebra level, (hey, I was a Poli Sci major, give me a break. At least I didn't have to take remedial math), so I won't pretend to understand all that, but I get that you tweaked it to make it better, and that's mighty fine. Sincere thanks for all your hard work. Now I'm going to go DL 807 and put this baby to the practical test ***EDIT*** Poking around in the new MJ version 807 after install, looked in the /Icons subfolder and saw that "Warp_Helper.png" appears to be a cameo of Jean Luc Picard. Can't stop laughing.
  15. @Tonka Crash Successfully completed, thanks very much! With 1800 Dv to spare, even. You're right about the Dv costs of changing the Longitude of Ascending Node, they are significant, but the higher your orbit, the less it costs. This I discovered by simple trial and error. What I did was note the direction of the glow chasing itself around the circle, and found I needed to launch South. That got me close. Then I boosted orbit to around 3000km, corrected alignment, corrected Longitude of Ascending Node, then did a final correction to Alignment. This got me in the right plane. Then I used Planner to setup a standard increase to the desired Ap of 8000 or so, but it was way in the wrong place, so I clicked on the maneuver node in map view, and just dragged it around until my planned Ap lined up with the desired Ap , jiggered the duration of thrust a bit, and had my Ap just right. From there getting the Pe right was just a simple burn, and I got that happy green color. Ten seconds later, mission was complete. This highlights one of the things I have said before about Mechjeb; there are many features I have yet to explore.
  16. A question for the MJ community, of the how would you use Mechjeb to do this variety. So I'm playing in Career Mode, and it's early days, Year 1, Day 9. I've placed an unmanned probe in Mun Orbit, and that's my best achievement so far. Now there's a mission- Position satellite in polar orbit of Kerbin AP: 8,403,702 PE: 7,817,928 Inclination: 90 degrees Longitude of Ascending Node: 359.7 degrees OK, the first three parameters, no problem. Used KSP and MJ enough to do it in my sleep. But that Longitude of Ascending Node business, what exactly is that, and how would you use Mechjeb to achieve it?
  17. I was messing around with a simple one like you described just now, and found that if you diddle the button at top of Ascent Guidance a few times, the purple circle appears, without autopilot actually being engaged. It's the button that says "Show ascent navball guidance" or "Hide ascent navball guidance". If I have misunderstood, and that purple circle isn't what you're looking for, my apologies. **edit** I just checked Cheesecake's screenshot on page 74, and it shows the purple triad, not the purple circle I am getting...
  18. Well, there was actually a little more to the story. Good old Jeb "Weinstein" Kerman touched down in the Rescue Ranger, Negan came bouncing over and hopped in the passenger seat, and only then noticed the placard on the dashboard saying "Grass, @$$, or monopropellant, nobody rides for free!"
  19. Dear Sarbian, I am, of course, deeply flattered that my humble efforts to work on the LandingSites.cfg file have been deemed adequate for inclusion in an official release. Though I must admit that Negan's Place is a point of no real significance, simply a location where a femme Kerbanaut named Negan needed a rescue ride. Greater Flats is somewhat more meaningful, being the center of a wide-open space near the equator, and thus handy for landings. The significance of the Desert Runways is obvious, though I would again caution about Desert Runway 36 being dangerous! The terrain feature I have arbitrarily dubbed RUD Ridge, (in homage to the terrain feature in Route Pack 6), makes northward landings at the Desert Site highly dangerous. Perhaps Squad will in some future version of KSP see fit to lower it somewhat, or even eliminate it entirely. The thing is, it's visually deceptive to an extreme; it looks like nothing until the last minute and then you're like, "OH Shhhhhhhiiii - BOOOOOMMM!" But the real reason for this post is to politely ask about this part at the top of the new LandingSites.cfg file { // If you want to clean up the default site then you'll need an MM patch // !MechJeb2Landing:HAS[#id[MechJeb2DefaultLandingSites]] { } id = MechJeb2DefaultLandingSites I suspect the last two lines are to designate this one as the default file, so that if one places a custom file somewhere in /Gamedata that the custom file will be read in preference to this one, but given that my only "education" in coding goes back to the days when we had to chip the bits out of stone one at a time with a codehammer, (kind of like that scene at the beginning of 2001 A Space Odyssey), I thought I would ask... And the first line, about a Module Manager patch puzzles me entirely. Anyhow, if you have a moment to explain, I would be most appreciative.
  20. Aaaah, so desu! Domo arigato, JH4C-san! I suppose that's what I get for posting so early, before caffeine. In any case, the file I posted does work with MJ2 v800, both on Kerbin and with the two Minmus landing sites I have added. And it will allow use of the Aircraft Autolander at the Desert Runway, but please do note what I said about landings on Desert Runway 36 being problematic because of RUD Ridge. Perhaps that problem could be avoided with correct adjustment of the glideslope? I'd be interested to hear what others have found. I'd also be very interested to know what others think about that weirdness with the quotation marks around the body name. I admit I'm not much on theoreticals, I'm more the trial and error sort, what an old boss of mine used to call "patch, fit, and fiddle", but I do get the job done. Eventually...
  21. Exactly what Sarbian said, and here's a post I made back in July showing my own working version thereof. (EDIT: Linking to exact post doesn't seem to be working, so I'll say instead, go back to page 72 and look for my post from July 23rd. It's about halfway down the page) Obviously, it's a long file, there's a lot of scrolling down to be done...
  22. Yes, I noticed that, but took it for KSP humor Seriously, though, as an EFL teacher I'd politely remind you that not everyone here speaks English as their L1, and such mistakes are fairly common even among those who are native speakers. I've been an expat for years now, and I stumble, bumble, and generally make a fool of myself in Castellano on a regular basis, so I can really understand.
  23. (shrug) KSP is a rocket simulator. It doesn't really simulate aircraft flight all that well.
  24. My pleasure, apholis. We all try to help each other with minimal asshattery, which is a good part of what makes this such an awesome community. I've been playing KSP since 2014, IIRC, and there are still regions of both KSP and MechJeb which I haven't explored. The videos on YouTube are inspiring, though I have learned the hard way that just because Nikola Wiche can do something doesn't mean I can Nota Bene: the above is NOT MY VIDEO, it is by Nikola Wiche, whose channel is linked above.
