Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical questions

Range isn't an issue with starshot. The craft will accelerate so fast it will remain in range. You are right about extreme apeatures being needed for slower acceleration flight, a great example of this is the book Rocheworld. -
On PCs, there is a free app called paint that has something called the paintbucket tool, which I assumes would be a basic functionality of any painting program. However, on my Mac, I have been unable to find a paint app that is not $20 and has the paintbucket tool. I have downloaded three programs so far but none of them have the paintbucket tool! Anyone know a Mac program with a paintbucket tool?

Actually, a 1 meter solar sail pushed by a gigawatt ground based laser could reach .3c. https://breakthroughinitiatives.org/initiative/3 -
It said walk, not run, and I agree with him, if you can't walk 10 miles when you need to, something is wrong (of course, given the obesity rates, something is wrong with a lot of people. Still Here I am 100+ years later, and I agree with his statement. You should be able to walk 10 miles at once). The schools generally do have compulsory physical education (even if its a bit of a joke). I mean, I can, but more and more americans are obese, something few sci-fi writers predicted.

I mean, there are far less insects and wildlife in the US than in nondeveloped nations. Accurate prediction, though the mental image it conjures is hilarious This is the only thing they got completely wrong. This was a few years before planes, so its fair that they imaged an airship airforce

The BFR but with nuclear gas core engines.

I saw this on the internet. If you open this image against a dark background(click open image in new tab while in incognito mode), it shows a second image.

Wasn't that in one of the HGTTG books? -
Spellcasting sequence for star travel: 1. Get to orbit. Either use several fly spells to ascend to the vacuum, then accelerate to orbital speed (fly speed is now inapplicable) or greater teleport directly to synchronous orbit. A wide miss on the greater teleport will still be in orbit. 2. Get to solar orbit. A wand of fly as 100k delta v. 3. Determine the rule for wall of force by casting one above you. It will either snap to you or snap to the sun's surface (which is rotating). If it snaps to you: 4a. Cast a wall of force at an angle of tan-1(20 feet/second / c / 2) off the target star. 4b. Get 60 feet away at 90 degrees from trajectory to star. 4c. Cast feather fall 4d. Close on the first wall of force at 20 feet/second 4e. Cast another wall of force an angle of tan-1(20 feet/second / c / 2) off the target star opposite to the first. 4f. Increase to 40 feet/second. Ready action on hitting wall, cast Resilient sphere. If it snaps to the star: 4a. Raise orbit so that you would need a velocity of just under c to stay over its surface. Wait until your orbit is aligned. 4b. Cast feather fall. 4c. Cast wall of force behind you. You might need to angle it so you get kicked off the star's rotiational plane. 5. Wait until you approach target star, recasting any stuff you need to survive. When you can see planets, use fly spell to adjust course to hit one. The sequence in 4 can be used to stop you again if need be. 6. Cast feather fall and slam into planet. 7. Cast teleportation circle every day for a year to create a permanent stargate.

"One of the 4 strap-on first stages failed to separate properly, and struck the central second stage" That's happened to me a lot in ksp -
You send down a collection plane/blimp. Venus has the advantage of relatively low radiation, the ability to aerobrake and use propellers and nuclear/electric jets, earthlike gravity, and sunlight.
-
Yes. Also, you could use the sulfur and nitrogen in the air to grow plants.
-
Planes can glide. They don't just stop in midair and instantly fall like a brick when their is an EMP.

orion npp?

I haven't flown a spaceship, but I have flown a dirigible. You make it hot, and it goes up, just like a spaceship. Rockets aren't like flying dirigbles. Dirigibles use helium to go up, not hot air. Our rocket has a fusion drive, so it does use helium! Our rocket is just like a dirigible after all!

Why can't they just send up a Dragon and fix it? Even without crew rating, they could send up robonaut. -
In A New Hope, why was there just a worm hanging out in the garbage area? Sure, it could be for waste processing, but why do you need a garbage area and compressor at all? Just dump it into space! How did the worm get there? The movie wouldn't have lost any plot or motivation without it.

Literally just one major battle (in the movies anyway). They spent most of their time going to planets, being found and attacked, and escaping.

Having 13 districts which are limited to one industry is the worst economic and political decision ever, as a loss of control or natural disaster anywhere would cripple the country.
