BTW, my 747-8 replica is done and up for download for those who are interested. https://kerbalx.com/Kronus_Aerospace/Kronus-747-8-Peregrine

This craft is a stock replica of the Boeing 747-8. This craft was largely inspired by the excellent works of Gman_builder and DavidN, whose accounts you can find here, https://kerbalx.com/DavidN https://kerbalx.com/Gman_builder For this craft I aimed to replicate the exact look, design, and function of the 747-8 as closely as I could, the resulting aircraft is my most accurate replica to date. One huge source of part count is the GEnx-2B turbofans, which all together contribute about 600 parts. Admittedly a lot for a purely aesthetic component. However, the craft would have looked a bit silly with just the dinky Goliaths powering it. Download (As well as additional screenshots): https://kerbalx.com/Kronus_Aerospace/Kronus-747-8-Peregrine Part Count: 1150 Craft Mass: 414.6 tonnes Craft Specifications -Rotation Speed: 70 m/s -Cruising Altitude: 8000 m -Max Speed at CRZ ALT: 254.7 m/s -Stall Speed: 45 m/s -Maneuverability: Slow, but Responsive. -Action Group 1 toggles the flaps, for this craft they are simply used as airbrakes rather than for increasing lift.

Ummm, Kerbin? Oh...

My 747-8 replica is nearly done! This baby ended up having a LOT of problems that really bogged down the building process. However, the end result is my most accurate replica to date. Still have a bit of work to do until I would consider it entirely finished.

Gosh these raked wing tips were hard to do! Fun fact I actually had the chance to briefly talk to the man whom lead the design team that first came up with the raked wingtip design for use on a modified version of the 767-300, which would become the 767-400, Professor Kenneth Visser. He currently works at Clarkson University. He talked about how, despite what Boeing advertising may tell you, the raked wingtips are used for purely aesthetic reasons!

Goliath intake shrouds are apparently exempt from gravity. It's returning to it's people.
-
This is not a normal!
-
True, and the rear flaps on aircraft such as this are so large that only the Big-S control surfaces are large enough, but unfortunately they aren't really usable because of how they're slanted.
-
First time trying to make fully accurate wings with flaps included, I like how it's turning out!

The hardest part of building a big ship? Flying it into LKO with this frame rate.

10 Kilotons to LKO no Autostrut

I don't blame ya. Well KSP uses metric so it's actually about 2205 pounds per ton -
10 Kilotons to LKO no Autostrut
Kronus_Aerospace replied to Kronus_Aerospace's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Yes I was waiting for that. That rocket was the bane of my existence, I've wanted to build a ridiculously large launch vehicle for quite some time, but every single time I thought to build one, this rocket came to my head and I thought, "What's the point?" I was never going to build a rocket as big as this one, and even if I did I would have to use the same technique as Stratz. Then, could I even take credit for designing said rocket? My thought on it was, my rocket is either going to be inferior, or unoriginal, then why even make it at all. It's a strange thought to imagine that a video from a KSP youtuber would be discouraging, when it's almost always the opposite. Then I built my 10 Kiloton Rocket, and rather than being proud of it, I began to look at it with disdain, compared to Stratz's rocket it was smaller and less efficient in every way. I eventually decided that enough was enough, this rocket would no longer hold me back. I realised the only way to break this mental roadblock, that stopped me from being proud of my own achievements, was to beat it. It may seem childish, but I needed to one up Stratz. The negative feelings brought on by that rocket built up to the point where I wasn't enjoying playing KSP anymore. Me building MY rocket wasn't just me trying to "beat" Stratz, it was the manifestation of my struggle not to quit KSP. I'm sorry for taking you through that emotional rollercoaster, I've just really needed to vent for way too long. I'm just happy that I can finally move on. -
3 SPF in this case, and I think the single Rhino is funsies enough, I like how you think though.

I just caint believe the state of tuhday's Sociehty. Even them spaceplanes are goin emo!

10 Kilotons to LKO no Autostrut
Kronus_Aerospace replied to Kronus_Aerospace's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Hey @He_162, I just finished my 30 Kiloton Payload Capacity Rocket! It ended up being 3872 parts, which is a lot more part efficient than my 10 Kiloton rocket. I'm still not entirely happy with it as I could easily get the part count lower, but I'll be damned If I sacrifice muh asthetics! It's mass currently sits at 138 Kilotons, and to be honest I could Probably reduce that too, but first I'm gonna have to launch it and see. That's the part I'm REALLY not looking forward to. And, of course, It has no autostrutting. -
137963 tonnes 3872 Parts 503 Meters tall 2 Giga-newtons of thrust 486 Mammoth engines 1 Rhino (For some reason) 30 Kiloton payload capacity 3 Stages 0 Modded Parts 0 Autostruts 0 FPS Now comes the hard part... launching it into orbit

10 Kilotons to LKO no Autostrut
Kronus_Aerospace replied to Kronus_Aerospace's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Well, I'm kind of a stickler when it comes to mods, Kerbal Engineer, RCS Build Aid, and Hanger Extender are the only mods I'm willing to use in that aspect. -
10 Kilotons to LKO no Autostrut
Kronus_Aerospace replied to Kronus_Aerospace's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
True, but I honestly avoid autostruts whenever possible, because I find configuring autostruts to be extremely tedious and I'd rather just not deal with it. It's almost certainly better to use them no doubt, but I'm lazy. -
I'm scared. ... It's not even done yet
-
This pretty much sums up my life right now.
-
I believe it was about 80 meters tall, but at the moment I have the rocket at 220 meters, and that's with only 1 of its 3 stages completed.
-
Just made my new test payload....... This might be a bit excessive, just a little bit though.

10 Kilotons to LKO no Autostrut
Kronus_Aerospace replied to Kronus_Aerospace's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Hey, I was planning on doing the same thing myself! Though I am a little afraid of the part counts involved (my PC ain't exactly top notch). I do have some ideas for a more efficient design myself, but I guess I'll just have to see how it turns out. -
The way KSP works is heavily dependant on how well it's running, so for example, this thing blew up a lot while taking those screen shots, but when I played the game with my normal graphics settings it worked fine. So I would try using the minimum graphics settings and minimum resolution when using this rocket, if that doesn't work than just use unbreakable joints when it's loading in, after that it should be safe to turn unbreakable joints off, if that still doesn't work than get a new computer. Reverting to launch and quick saving/loading also causes it blow up sometimes, so avoid doing that. Also even if the rocket doesn't undergo RUD the motion of the rocket while it's settling can destroy the launch pad. I mean the thing is 2088 parts this is kind of expected.
