So here is the 4th and final entry in the forgotten hydrolox engines BDB is getting in the future. (well 3rd I guess since we talked about the XLR-129 but I'm doing that one last). This is the Pratt and Whitney RL-20 a staged combustion design that was the precursor the the XLR-129. Originally developed as a sea level engine it was modified into a vac version later. The vac version was considered in some Saturn improvement studies as a J-2 replacement. Its kind of an oddball engine due to the unusual gimbal arrangement thats needed. Compared next to the J-2 We dont need HG-3

We dont have a 3.125m to 5m adapter. Though I can look into the possibility of adapting existing assets such as the LDC 3.125 to 3.75m adapter. Its not going to be SLS-alike though I wonder why you had decoupling issues. I'll double check the colliders on DCSS. Our interstages have very thin colliders maybe the DCSS needs some more breathing room for other adapters. For now at least. I expect one of us will get to Pioneer Venus eventually but there are other priorities for the time being. Not sure about the status of Mars Observer.

I cant speak to tweakscale as I havent used it in a while but this release should be backwards compatible with KSP back to 1.8.1. Do note that stock type fairings are broken in 1.10.0 but ok in 1.10.1 Also worth noting a lot of the new stuff dont have tweakscale configs. I havent had the time or frankly motivation to maintain them recently being quite preoccupied with various other things so we would definitely appreciate a PR from someone to update those

In nearly all cases RO configs for stockalike mods are written by contributors to RO rather than the authors of the mod (and the configs are usually distributed with the RO install). I do expect someone will write configs but its not going to be us though since none of us use RO and it would require someone who uses both to do so.

[KSP1.12.x] RealPlume - Stock v4.0.8 & RealPlume v13.3.2 [25/JUN/2021]
Zorg replied to Zorg's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
The idea here is that both mods should be safe to install together. It cant actually harm your install but without the correct patching an engine can get double plumes, 1 from RealPlume and 1 from waterfall. With the correct patching we make the assumption that if both mods are installed together you will prefer the Waterfall plume if a config is available. This enables you to have the benefit of RealPlumes for those that dont have Waterfall yet and more importantly get RealPlumes for solid rockets which are presently unsupported by Waterfall. I am doing this work on the RealPlume-stock for various mods including ReStock but some mods have their realplume configs in their own compatibility files, it would be up to them to manage it in that case. -
Unfortunately we're not looking at at integrating IPP into the BDB roadmap at this time. Orbital Phoenix did some phenomenal work earlier but they've not been super active in a while. As far as I know, the parts still work and look great. Perhaps someone else will come along to do more IPP stuff one day

So after a bit of consideration, I have decided to make the RS-30 deployable only. Although the baseline design was a fixed nozzle, the deployable version, which was considered together with modifying to to match RL10 fittings, was to have the same expansion ratio and only a slight mass penalty instead of a performance difference. So that makes the fixed nozzle kind of redundant plus this make the texturing a but easier (plus it looks cooler). As per the descriptions, the extension is transpiration cooled so LH2 will flow through the deployment mechanism into the nozzle extension and be ejected through tiny nozzles at the exit rim. Next to RL10A4N

Which version of KSP are you on? I recently had a lot of trouble with PVG in KSP 1.11. I just didnt have the time to diagnose the issue (couple of weeks back) so Idk if it was a conflict or user error or what but I just couldnt launch a Delta IV with PVG on 1.11. Have you tried a manual launch? On previous versions though I found Delta IV very stable and easy to launch using PVG. I dunno if your issue is related to the problem I had (not just Delta IV but a couple of other rockets too but not all of them). Anyway the payload figures in the original diagram might not be entirely accurate as it in some cases includes the mass of the upper stage when going to GTO. This is kind of confusing hence why the expanded figures were being done. havent had time to update those since doing Titan 3 and 4 though. Its basically worked out from Dv requirements and actual testing whenever that might need to be validated.

So I think the list of new engines is pretty final now. In addition to the M1, we discussed the XLR129 which is firmly on the roadmap. However no one guessed this other one: RS-30 Advanced Space Engine. Here's an early look. This is a staged combustion cycle vac engine using some subscale SSME derived components meant for the IPP space tug. Less powerful than the later RL10s but 473s specific impulse. Will use the same interfaces as RL10 so will fit Centaur D nicely too. (roughly same size as an RL10A4N). A deployable nozzle version was discussed in the studies but drawings are missing but I'm looking into the possibility. That would be the same size nozzle just for compactness rather than an extension, this is already 400:1. So M1, XLR129, RS30 and one more to round up the new engines

Stock type fairings are broken in KSP 1.10.0 (but ok in 1.10.1). So apart from that specific release it should be ok for all versions from 1.8.1 onwards. We tried to make the stock inventory be backwards compatible with those who have Breaking Ground on older versions but its not well tested, we think it should be ok.

there is an upgrade called bluedog_JPL45K_gen2 in the upgrades.cfg inside the Jupiter folder. Both the 45K and 6k use that one so you shouldnt delete that upgrade if you're keeping either engine. I'm really not understanding the interactions with respect to the Castor upgrade tbh. I think we have to consider this on the basis that we support pruning of entire folders but if users choose to go delete individual parts within folders its up to them to resolve the issues. We wouldnt consider it reasonable to expect everyone to use the Github development version. After the next release we are hoping to adapt our workflow for more frequent releases for bug fixes and version updates and perhaps even releasing smaller content while big projects like Saturn take a while. Yes very soon, we are finalising the update for KSP 1.11.2
-
Did you leave the upgrade file within the Jupiter folder as well? Since the 45k needs that. Although once again I dont see any connection between that and the other upgrade. Thats not something we officially support so you would need to resolve that with the author of that mod. BDB has its own fuel switcher and it is designed to work in harmony with CryoTanks and to get out of the way if RealFuels is used. With any other fuel switcher mods the configs would need to find a way to work with bdb stuff.

I've actually suggested Roger distribute a full copy of my RS68 model (and I think cobalt would be ok for his RL10 as well?) so he doesnt require his users to download a 700 part mod as a dependency . RL10 is in the Centaur folder and RS68 is in Delta. Strange, I'll check for any cross interactions. Im really not seeing how that could be, gone through all the configs. By any chance did you delete the shared folder? (shouldnt affect it but wondering if one broken upgrade could affect others).
