I'd be inclined to say it has something to do with being lied to for years, paying $50 for an alpha tech demo that got 1 major update in a year and is still buggy as hell, and then having the game abandoned without the parent company even acknowledging that they excrements the bed on this one. I agree with you that hate towards the employees is not warranted.

Except that we were told that the forums were paid for and contracted for another 6 months. With a contract in place, there should have been some level of SLO agreed to that, quite frankly, hasn't been kept up. -
Very short day at the LKSA today. Started the Gemini program by sending a probe up and into Minmus' SOI. Collected some science and unlocked a couple of nodes in the 160 tier. The big thing today was nearly losing the probe in Kerbin's atmosphere due to plasma effects. Yep, I've got the plasma option turned on, so I wasn't able to hold retrograde on SAS. Nearly burned up when the thing turned sideways. Thankfully the thing held and I got it down safe. Ish. Tomorrow I'll continue the Gemini program by putting at least 1 satellite in orbit of Minmus, as well as sending a lander up there.

Nothing against you Vanamonde, and we know that the lot of you admins/mods here on the site don't have any control over what is happening. But I don't think your contact or their team give a damn about the site or the problems. It took them, if memory serves, more than a week to fix it when it went down completely in spite of all of us giving the actual error number and links to fixes we found. And this issue with the gateway errors has been going on for months. MONTHS. They either don't care about the site, or they aren't qualified to be trying to fix it. Again, this isn't against you. It's just hard to believe that they are actually trying to fix it when the reality is that they simply haven't. -
Shadowzone dropped a video talking about Nate's video. Go to the 5:30 mark of the video, right after the part where Nate talks about the game being fully funded and is going to be developed during his 2023 interview at Space Creator Days. My one thought on that: are you honestly telling me that, when you both didn't know the cameras were still rolling, Nate said he was simply optimistic that the game would get developed fully? Like, did he honestly know already at that point that things were amiss? And why didn't SZ expand more on that in this video?

Kind of like he's doing now? He admitted in the video that he had to tread carefully due to the NDA. What changed between June and now? Right - nothing. Again, he talked about having to be careful due to the NDA and that he couldn't say much. Which he could have done months ago as nothing has changed. Well, he's done the former multiple times, but hasn't done the latter at all. Which, if you've read this thread and listened to the video, he really didn't do. "Oh, I'm so sorry I was so passionate" is not an apology to the team for screwing this up. Anybody who paid $50 for the EA release has a stake in this. We were the end users who were supposed to help shape the game through playtesting and bug reporting. And I think it's pathetic when people cannot grasp simple facts. There is nothing in the video he couldn't have said months ago. The only difference is that while it may have healed some of the ill will then, it didn't do diddly now. I'm not expecting him to break an NDA or to say anything untrue. But I'll ask you simply: What in the video did he say that he couldn't say months ago?

It doesn't matter who he is doing it for. This is the first time he even addressed the community after finding out the studio was closing. He needed to do this months ago. Here's a different take on it: He's in a 12-step program and has finally reached the part where he has to apologize and make amends? Long shot, but could be. Pretty sure his budget was for creating mods, but what do I know?

I appreciate the sentiment, but it is 5 months too late. This needed to come out way back in June when the studio was closed. As it is, his words just ring hollow now.

I took a few days off over the holiday weekend, primarily to spend time with my wife and cats and eat a whole lot of turducken. Yes, we decided to change things up this year and cook a turducken which, surprisingly, came out pretty good. Not sure I'd permanently replace the turkey with this, but it was a decent change-of-pace. Anyhow, today I planned on starting the Gemini program in my career save, so-to-be-named for Minmus being the twin of Mun. Or, well, close enough for all of Kerbalkind to call it a twin. But when I went into Mission Control, I had 3 contracts dealing with collecting science and planting a flag on the Mun. In the poles, which I hadn't been to yet in this career. Only problem was I needed to do a Visual Observation, thanks to the station parts mod I'm using. So I built this ugly thing and, for the first time in this career, landed a pair of Kerbals on the Mun: Still building tall and not wide, but that is about to change. Came home with a lot of science, and I should now have the parts needed to start building outwards. I hope; landing this thing was like walking blind and barefoot through mouse traps while holding a Fabergé egg on the tips of your thumbs. I thought for sure this thing was going to tip over. But, it didn't, and there we have Jeb and Bob standing on the Mun's northern pole. Or, well, Bob is standing, while Jeb seems to be working on his line dancing. Tomorrow I shall be able to start the Gemini program...unless the game wants to give me some more easy Mun missions.

How much of those requirements were things that Nate and others promised though? There is no denying that this community has dome pretty high standards, but I don't think we would shy away from someone telling us "We can give you A and B, but your requirement of C cannot happen".

So, I'm continuing on with my current career, and I got a contract to gather a stone from the Mun. In addition to other science I needed to collect, I wanted to collect the stone because that's 120 science that I simply cannot pass up. So I built a rocket, flew it to the Mun, collected said stone with Valentina, and started flying home. Which is when I noticed something very odd on the rocket that just happens to be perfectly me: radially attached ladders. Yes, you read that right. Radially. Attached. Ladders. See, when I'm building stuff in the VAB, ladders are about the last thing I put on a command module. And by the time I do it, I've usually attached multiple tanks and engines radially. So if I don't forget to go back to a symmetry of 1, I end up with multiple parts on the command module. This generally involves having like 4 thermometers, or 3 barometers. But ladders? That's a first for me. At least that I've noticed. But hey, at least I'm not this meme today:

Last couple of days I have been taking it easy, letting the wife have my attention for a while. Today, however, I spent some time continuing on with my current career. I put a satellite in orbit of the Mun, Auctor III...and it happens to have an equatorial orbit going counter-clockwise. This is important because Auctor II has an equatorial orbit going clockwise. Different heights, but it's odd. At least to me; I may need to throw one up there in a polar orbit just because. Anyhow, after this I planned and executed a landing on the surface of the Mun. With a probe core. The parts I had to this point simply didn't allow for enough wiggle room to put a Kerbal on the surface. Sorry, but I'm not using the Onion and Micro Landing Struts. So I put a probe core down on the surface. Turned out pretty nice, too; love the shot I got of Kerbin in the background starting to slip below the horizon. Violated the cardinal rule here by building tall and not wide, but that's primarily due to a contract to get science in low Munar orbit...with the science jr. So I had to do it this way. All told, I got back enough science to get the necessary parts (Simple Command Modules, Propulsion Systems, Space Exploration, and Landing) so I can now do a Kerbed landing. Which is next up on the list!

Well, that was embarrassing. For all the precautions I'm taking with my current career, I still end up doing some of the most Kerbal things. It's part of the game, I guess, to just do stuff where you scratch your head and ask yourself "Why on Kerbin did I do that". For today's example, I give you the Horizon VIII and Horizon IX, one a probe core and the other a manned vessel. See, I got these contracts to rendezvous and dock in orbit of Kerbin. I thought "Hey, that's right in line with a real space program, and I can do this easily". So I send up Horizon VIII, a small probe core with a docking port. Then I send Jeb up in Horizon IX with the purpose of rendezvousing and docking with the Horizon VIII. I get into orbit, set the rendezvous - which was 2 days out - and waited until I rendezvoused to match speed with the target. Should be easy-peasy. Wrong. Jeb, in his infinite wisdom, decided to rendezvous with the wrong craft in LKO. He decided he wanted to check out how Horizon I was doing. You know, make sure it was still operational. It is! Up there in the sky, hurtling through the cosmos, its batteries blinking away. He wasn't very happy when we at the LKSA told him he was near the wrong craft and he had to push all those buttons AGAIN. He finally got it right, docked, and came home. But man, he needs to follow directions!

Continuing on with my career save, I did 3 different flights today: I played around with KerbNet, and discovered an anomaly pretty close to the KSC. So I launched Horizon VI, which was designed to roll over to the anomaly and see what it was all about. Unfortunately, the anomaly is in this big black hole in the mountains to the west of the KSC, and the rover cannot get there. And as I have no clue how to build or fly planes, I decided to leave it alone. Horizon VII, which is the second manned craft and the first one to use the Onion re-entry module. This was designed solely to perform science experiments in HKO. Auctor I, the first probe sent from Kerbin to the Mun. I only did a fly-by, and at that, I only achieved a Pe of ~1 million meters. I could have easily gotten closer, but I simply decided to just do a simple fly-by and leave the extra stuff like orbiting and more science from low Munar space for another mission. All told, I'm progressing nicely. The self-imposed limitations are really bringing a sense of realism to this game that I didn't have before. No more reverting when things go wrong. Now I sit here and grit my teeth and hope for the best!

That's actually one part truth and one part opinion. He absolutely was responsible for generating hype around the game and getting it more noticed. -
Ok, so continuing on with my Jool 5 career! I launched 4 craft today: Horizon II, a short-range orbital probe sent up strictly to satisfy the requirements for the contract "Return From Orbit". Horizon III, the first kerbed rocket to go to space! Jebediah Kerman was gracious enough to accept the invitation to get thrown upwards, and then was even more pleased to accept attempting to hit the ground and missing. He becomes the first Kerbal from the Las Kerbas Space Agency - the LKSA - to go into orbit. He also has the distinct pleasure of being the first Kerbal to go on an orbital spacewalk. He was pretty excited about doing it, but he was even more excited when he got back and his locker was filled with gratitude and snacks. Horizon IV, a satellite sent up into a Kolniya orbit. Ap of 3.06 million meters, Pe of 103500 meters, and an inclination of 63.4 degrees. Barely had enough fuel to finish this thanks to mistiming the launch window; a lot of spare fuel was burned to get the right orbit. Horizon V, a satellite sent up into a Tundra orbit. Ap of 5.6 million meters, Pe of 103500 meters, and an inclination of 63.4 degrees. Over-engineered this craft based on what happened with the previous craft. I'm concerned that these 2 craft might decommission themselves as their Pe's do in fact cross at the same juncture. Really odd that I got this contract after the one for Horizon IV. I have the first 3 tiers in the tech tree completed, and I have only 2 nodes to go in Tier IV. I've upgraded the Launchpad, VAB, R&D, Mission Control, Tracking Station, and the Astronaut Complex. I always save Administration, Runway, and SPH for last, and this one will be no different. My next steps will be to go into HKO with Valentina as I have a contract to gather some science from up there, followed by heading towards the Mun. Remember my self-imposed limitations; I will need to send up a probe, then put a probe into orbit around the Mun, and then send up a Kerbal or two. I apologize for the lack of pictures with this. I have, as I mentioned, a Word document that I'm updating with images and chatter and such that I will eventually share (along with the Excel document). As of right now, all the rockets and probes are pretty standard design for anyone who has played this game longer than 20 hours. I think I'll start sharing pictures here once I get a lander and/or rover on one of the two natural satellites in Kerbin's SOI.

Which you didn't actually state in your first post. All you said was the it was too similar to our own, which is not an opinion but a fact. You should have stated that, while similar to our own, you didn't care for it and think it should be vastly different. Or something along those lines. That's not an opinion on KSP. In fact, that's not an opinion at all. Proper nouns/names that aren't included in the dictionary of your web browser will underline red as they aren't known or, potentially, spelled right. That's just a fact of life. -

I'll have to check my machine, but I think in KSP1 I'm hovering around 50ish on most rockets, dipping to 35-40 when I start getting wildly creative with part clipping. -
Today I started a new career, with the sole purpose of eventually performing a Jool 5. There are 3 things I've never done in this game before; they are: Land on and return from Eve Jool 5 Grand Tour So I decided that I really should try a Jool 5. I've got >1000 hours in KSP, and I can land on and visit other celestial bodies with some degree of consistency. Heck, I've landed and returned from Bop and Pol, as well as landed and stayed on Tylo, in KSP2, so I should be able to eventually do this in KSP1, right? Right. I haven't gotten very far, as I just started today. I've got multiple mods installed, not the least of which are: MechJeb2 Unkerballed Start Station Parts Redux I have several self-imposed limitations/restrictions in my game. They are: No cheat menu shenanigans, no matter how irritating it will be when I eventually forget batteries and run out of power. No landing on a celestial body unless/until I put a satellite in orbit around it first. Minimal quick-saving/quick-loading/reverting. Meaning, I will only do this if the kraken shows up or we experience a RUD, we are good to do that. But my shoddy engineering skills are not a reason to do this. I am going to Kerpollo the tech tree. This means I have to complete a given tier before I move on to the next one. With that, today I grinded out some science and did the first couple of launches (launch, launch to sub-orbital trajectory). I was able to upgrade Mission Control, Tracking Station, and Launchpad, and then put a satellite into orbit of Kerbin (average Ap of 115km, average Pe of 100km). I've got tiers I, II, and III of the tech tree finished, and I'm working on tier IV. I have several contracts available to put satellites in orbit at varying heights, and I am going to complete those simply to get the cash. Why? I need to upgrade the VAB before I accept those contracts to go explore the Mun. And that's where I'm at today. I am keeping track of this as if I were doing a Caveman run (Word document with details of launches and such), as well as having an Excel file detailing out the craft I am launching by project designation. For example, any/all satellites being put into orbit of Kerbin (that is, any satellites that permanently stay in Kerbin's SOI) have the Horizon designation. Today's craft was Horizon I. The Excel sheet will track project and craft designation, project and craft purpose, commission date, decommission date, and decommission reason. I know - way more information than most people put out there. But I want to track my space program's success from implementation to Jool 5. If I want credit for it, I want it to really mean something, you know?

I'd like to weigh in on the Discord discussion, but only as it relates to the forums here and what the purchase of the IP may or may not mean to both the forum's existence and the Discord channel's existence. If this is the wrong place, then I ask that the mods here please merge this post with the appropriate thread. I personally dislike Discord. I use it because it's easy, convenient, and a lot of other people use it, so I know where I can reach someone (potentially) in real time. But it has too many faults IMHO to be used as the primary source of communication for anything even coming close to the size of a gaming community. Even one as (relatively) small as KSP. The reasons are numerous, but the primary ones are: Loss of information Off-topic chatter Heavy-handed moderation Questions either not seen or simply ignored As an opposing viewpoint, the forums are a better way to: Effectively communicate with the community Store relevant information (such as 10 years' worth of mod talk, tips, and help) Easily moderate threads and the community These are my personal opinions, and should be taken with as many grains of salt as you need to in order to find them palatable. Anyhow, back to the point of this post: my thoughts on the continued existence of the forums and what the purchase of the IP may mean here and to Discord. I'll start with Discord, because that's the easy one. The current Discord server and all of its channels won't see much, if any, impact. Why? It's not an official Discord server for KSP, but rather a community-run unofficial one. That means that the current Discord server shouldn't be going anywhere and should continue to be used after this all gets smoothed out. I cannot speak for any Discord servers for any new owner of the IP; we don't know who that is yet, nor what their current strategy or communication architecture looks like. If we use RW as an example, I don't think their Discord is going anywhere. If anything, it will see increased usage (which I am sure it has). As far as the forums go...that's a trickier subject. As has been pointed out, whatever is in the contract is what the new owner acquires. That could include the forums...it could not. And therein lies the problem - we once again simply don't know. There is an effort to preserve the information here, and there are multiple threads on that subject. And that's a good thing, because if the new owner doesn't acquire the forums, TT can shut them down at any point. Heck, the new owner could acquire them and then come in and say "We're moving to our own thing, so you have to migrate yourselves over there" and then shut them down. While the acquisition of the IP is an exciting thing, and we are all crazy with wonder over it, it's actually a scary time to be here because this place could shut down without any warning at any time. My hope through all this is that the forums continue to be up and running, whether on the current servers through TT or on new ones through the new owner of the IP. I much prefer forums to Discord; perhaps that's due to my being old-school and preferring the slow pace of being able to read a forum post and think about my response as opposed to hoping I can catch all the posts in Discord and respond before the topic changes on me. I'm an OG GenXer, and we like what we like. Unfortunately, if things change, we will have no choice but to adapt and change with them...or be left out in the cold.
