Weekly Challenge #37: Build a Glider!
Sivako Aerospace replied to Dakota's topic in Challenges & Mission Ideas
I was feeling ambitious this week, so I decided to complete all levels. The vehicle Primary level Secondary level Jeb level (this one took a while to get right) Val level -
Ever since KSP2 came out I have been wondering what the fastest attainable speed that a jet engine powered aircraft could reach is. Because there is currently no atmospheric heating, I felt that an aircraft just powered by jet engines could reach far faster speeds than in KSP1 without having to use aero/ thermodynamic trickery. So, I decided to start the Hypersonic Research Program (with the original goal to hit Mach 5 but later ended up with the goal to hit 1700 m/s) to begin to learn what the current limits were. This project would end up spanning 9 months and numerous versions of KSP2. Early testing HS3 As mentioned in the Early development section, the number of jet engines was a limiting factor in earlier versions of KSP2. So, I abandoned the project for a few months because when I tested a newer design with more engines (this would become the HS4), I was getting less speed. I though 1682 m/s was a barrier that couldn't be passed, until last week. Last week I found the save file with this project on it and I decided to have another go at reaching 1700 m/s. HS4 HS5 (the final attempt) Closing thoughts

Reported Version: v0.1.3.1 (latest) | Mods: none | Can replicate without mods? Yes OS: Windows 11 | CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700F @2.90GHz | GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER | RAM: 31.87 GB Specs: Severity: Low. It doesn't really affect gameplay too much . Frequency: Medium. It has happened several times. Description: During several missions when I was testing aircraft, I would have my throttle cut to bleed speed and it would at random go to 100% throttle at random without me inputting a throttle command (shift, ctrl, Z, X). I believe that in all instances of this happening I was coming out of both physics and non-physics time warp. This doesn't seem to affect my ability to control the throttle because as soon as this happens, I can throttle down.

Title: The map screen turns all color to a high saturation and crashes the game. Specs: Severity: high. It completely crashed the game. Frequency: low. I've only have had it happen once and I wasn't able to reproduce it. Description: I was doing an interplanetary midcourse correction burn to Jool using the ion engines. The orbit was planned to be polar. I toggled into the map screen during time warp to monitor my trajectory then a massage came up saying "Approaching Kerbol lowering time warp" along with a message saying I had lost Comnet connection. At this point the screen started to saturate all the colors to very high values, the frame rate dropped from 60 FPS to 11 FPS, and the whole game locked up. Right after I took the screenshot seen above the colors began to saturate even more and then the game crashed to desktop. Edit: This occurred in v 0.1.2.0.22258

I experimented with making the Dark Star from Top Gun: Mavrick. I managed to get it up to a speed about Mach 4.9 at 12,500m during one of the first test flights.

Recently when I am entering the game from the main menu, loading up a craft from the VAB (it will spawn on the launch site and run for a few seconds then freeze), and exiting the game; I get about a 2-3 minute game freeze. I only have two medium sized vessels in orbit (one in orbit of Kerbin and one in orbit Dres and no debris in orbit). I’m not sure that this is a bug because this has just started. This didn’t happen when I first bought the game so I don’t think it has to do with my computer setup. Any idea on what is causing the freeze?
-
I have encountered this bug as well. The best that I can figure from my testing is it has to do with the engine shroud. My best guess is the game is thinking the engine shroud is still attached even though it was staged and that is what is holding the stages together. The way I’ve been working around this is to disable the engine shroud and build a new one using a fairing. You can also time warp to phase the stages apart after you have staged.

I built a replica of the Lockheed U-2.

I don’t know how but I did reproduce this bug when I quick saved and quick loaded while in orbit of Minmus. I didn’t take a screenshot though.

I've recently begun experimenting with an Infrared DSLR I acquired a while back. There have been many wildfires in the area that I live, but the smoke from the fires was able to reduce the brightness of the light coming from the sun (kind of like a natural solar filter). Because of this I was able to safely take some Infrared picture of the sun. Here is one of the resulting images.

GPU heating and crashing rapidly
Sivako Aerospace replied to Jasmine's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
It sounds to me like you aren’t getting proper cooling. Are all your PC air inlets clear and have nothing obstruction them? Also, are you over clocking your GPU? I know that if a GPU is being over clocked it can cause it to reach high temperatures and lead to loss of video when it overheats (and doesn’t have enough voltage to clock at that speed). Therefore, it would lead to similar symptoms to what you described. Hope this helps. -
It fails to start. Mining ore on Minmus.

Whats your favorite game EXCEPT Kerbal Space Program?
Sivako Aerospace replied to KSPBaron145's topic in The Lounge
Portal 2 is my choice. I love the story and characters that are established in the game. -
interstellar supply chain management
Sivako Aerospace replied to joratto's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
It would be kind of cool to have an Unobtainium like exotic resource that affect the performance of engines once you discover it. Potential if this mechanic was to exist in the game, it could effect the travel time of supply route ships between star systems. -
