  1. Is there a point to doing things faster (in less years) in career mode? For interplanetary missions you cannot really work around waiting for transfer windows so that is a big time sink. Careful advance planning for all missions could help, but gives me headaches, and I want to know if it the game cares how much time you use. Of course I may treat it as a challenge - colonize the whole system in X years - but not interested at the moment. Thanks!
  2. I think 20m/s crosswind would prevent a lot of planes from landing, and make it significantly harder even for large ones(with higher stall speeds). That is why they design airports with more than one direction for airfields. For alignment, hopefully KSP2 will provide easier tools. I will try to make it 'toe out' a bit(its not like im paying for worn landing gears ) . However the alignment tool allows angle increments of 5(?) degrees, which seems too much . One thing about my craft, the main wheels are not only in front, but quite far apart(got tired of having it tip over). With this geometry it should be that the tendency to ground loop is even higher.
  3. I switched reaction wheels from 'normal' to 'pilot only', and the steering does stop after a second - still overshoots. Seems like it was a combination of two factors, since I still suspect the alignment can be improved. That and being tail-dragger.
  4. That definitely means it works IRL! Seriously, apart from the release shock its such an elegant idea ..
  5. You may have a custom install. I have no problem with the Steam KSP (their Proton layer got much better recently). Running Ubuntu20.4.
  6. Thanks all these are good suggestions .. I use the keyboard for rovers but I will check the joystick settings. Also did not fiddle with the gear settings - they are and look big enough though, and can take some punishment at landing. The single gear is on the tail, and two big gears are in front by the engines(no nose wheel, but that should not cause the issue). Finally, I tries realigning the wheels and seemed to make it worse - which means it has an influence. The issue is that the gears are attached to engines and wings, and the wings are slightly tilted backwards. I wish the angles were displayed somehow during tuning.
  7. I would still try temperature, pressure, magnetic field, and of course, MISTERY GOO! Maybe others too..
  8. I see people de-orbiting debris religiously, but I just delete them from the list at the tracking station. Is the de-orbiting necessary for something(other than fun)? Will I bump into a wreck someday? Does the game slow down because it is tracking debris(even after deletion)? Thanks!
  9. I do find it funny how after crash the landing gear debris gets a mind of its own and bounces as if nothing absorbs energy, or it is possessed.
  10. I have this plane I like to land over and over(with an amazing low accident rate under ?%!!!) At landing I hit the brakes and occasionally need to steer to stay on runway. I find there is a big lag between joystick command and steer, which then continues without touching the stick - so I need to correct the other way, and the same happens in the other direction, etc. It seems to be worse when braking, and I take brakes off to steer, but it is not a science(art neither) Is this how a craft acts in real life? Is it a simulation artifact? Is it because I killed Jeb?? Thanks! edit: According to the FAQ I might have misaligned landing gear
  11. I see that single core performance is what you care about, would you say it the same about KSP2? For benchmarks I found the ones from GamersNexus and LTT pretty informative.
  12. The answer is obvious, how come nobody on the front page got it(did not check pages in between ..). It is dormant protomolecule from The Expanse.
  13. I took a rover to the Mun for an observation mission and the way-points were on a huge and steep slope. I had to remember tricks from down hill skiing navigating the slope from side to side. The last report I did while sliding upside-down after I tumbled when entering the area.
  14. I killed Jeb. It is the only kerbal I killed, because I did not know that I shouldn't dismiss him when he is missing. Now I am missing the only true kerbal, and it is probably why I cannot get MechJeb2 to work.
  15. I am having trouble getting an install in Ubuntu20.4. With the pre-compiled I get only the AR202 case, and the only module that works from it is the right-click option to rename vessel etc. When I try to compile from git I get a single error about access to an object. - Is it supposed to work with the very latest KSP(1.12.2.3xxx, mine gets updated all the time from Steam) -Does the career option block any modules? Thanks!
  16. I cloned the repository, and I modified two paths in Makefile(differenc capitalization, different share folder). Now I get only one error and it looks broken code(not likely I know): MechJeb2/MathJ/Utils.cs(11,32,11,49): error CS0122: 'ArrayPool<T>' is inaccessible due to its protection level However my Steam installation is always automatically updated - Could it be that the very latest KSP broke something even though the master branch of MechJeb2 is only 2 months old? I installed CKAN, which let me install MechJeb2. I still do not have the large capsule - exists in the tech tree though. However I get the nice interface with many options, which I will assume all work because I am an optimist Installing CKAN had a wrinkle: I had to also install curl(fine ..) but if it was installed with snap it would not find directories stating with a dot. So uninstall and install with apt.
  17. I had installed Mono from a repository, as instructed by the GitHub page of MechJeb2. So that's what it was for
  18. Awesome! (did not expect to install anything on linux by copying files) I have the Mechjeb2 part in VAB, and can add it to crafts, but no extra menus appear at launch. Do I need to redo the tech tree - and lose the current save file? Thanks again!
  19. Complete git newb here, trying to install MechJeb2 in Ubuntu20. From the 'Code' button I click download zip, unpack on my drive and try 'make' --> which tells me there is no git repository What am I missing? Thanks
  20. I tried re-assigning the SAS toggle to another button, but nothing improved. Other functions(like landing gear toggle) have no issues, so I have to wonder whats up with SAS.
  21. This week a bind(SAS toggle) that I had on the joystick broke - does not respond anymore. After several tries and other movements sometimes it does turn on, but then it does not turn off. Am I supposed to reconfigure my joystick(if that will even work)?
  22. Does anyone else find that ladders do not work as promised? I always end up doing jetpack acrobatics and jumping to the hatch because the option to climb over the last rung is rarely available. Other things I found more useful than ladders: -plant the flag in the right spot and climb on it(you can retrieved once you grabbed onto something) -retract the landing gear before exiting the craft so you can get back on easier.
  23. Thank you jimmy! It was likely the bug, since i did not change difficulty settings.
  24. Since about a week I find all my spacecraft have downgraded control capabilities. Where before I had target/antitarget, normal/antinormal etc. now I have only hold attitude and maybe pro and retro grade. This is on dozen of craft that I launched with full capabilities and now they are reduced. Was there an update? Is it triggered by my recently researching drone cores(if yes, how?)? Thanks! forgot to mention: I have played in career mode all the time, never made a change to that.
