Launch a rocket into a retrograde suborbital trajectory and landed my skycrane+rover at the pyramid complex. (a little off the target tho'... took me ~40min game time to drive there) - this mission was to test if my rover+skycrane can provide enough thrust for landing on a planet with similar gravity as Kerbin - finding: i overshot by ~40km... totally overestimated the thrust of the 4 little orange radial rockets (couldnt kill the lateral speed quickly enough) - Ronald Kerman was thrown out of the cart when it landed... need an even softer touch down (~5m/s is too much for the seat to handle apparently)

this speaks the truth

science is all about trial and error also.. experience is important too of cos... knowledge helps too (but that's another topic) (hvnt u ever doubt why your lab demostrator knows which solvent mix to use for that cromatography when you were still an undergrad? that's called experience; and that comes from endless number of trial and failling)

do you agree greater hype = greater disappointment ?

chances are....yes... but i suggest you dont torrent things like that virus malwares worms torjans... just you name it... (i mean... you have a legit license already... why bother with a crack) -

i dont know... i started in 0.12 when there was no maneuver nodes and there's only a Mun.... am i new? -
HOME is harder... I found Kethane too easy to play... you can build it light weight enough... (minmus is the best/easiest place to play kethane) but HOME is way heavier and is more challenging
-
you can HOME in lythe and you can Kethane in any planet if you play stock only... nah.. you dont want a base... they do nothing anyways but if you play HOME/ Kethane / Extraplanetary launchpad...yes you want to set up there just for the sake of 4-EX expland/ explore/ exploit/ ex_____ (forgot what that is)

i dont think phenmonII 955 @4G is considered a crap PC -
do you agree greater hype = greater disappointment ?
lammatt replied to lammatt's topic in The Lounge
why is it terrible? i really think big hype = big disappointmant i mean... you waited 12yrs for diablo3.... and then they gave you that piece of crap. you wait >5yrs for simcity... and then they gave you those server downtime right off the bat. -
since 0.21 has been soon for so long... the hype has gone outrageous ---- so i recall everytime there is some great titles coming out soon eg. FF-12; diablo3; simcity5; starcraft2 they all turned into big disappointments tho the fact is they are all indeed crap... the unreasonably high expectations people put into them because of the hype are what failling them -- so in this case...let's not put too much expectation on 0.21... there'll still be massive lag (they say they ease the lag during the launch) let's not hope the Mun terrain will be superb (it'll be glitchy everywhere just like how Minmus' terrain is not in sync with the mesh at co-ord. around the floating monolith) -- after all this is just stil ver0.xx... you cant expect too much... especially when you only "donated" $9.9 a year and a half earlier or you steam sale at $13.79 last week...

I lock my jeb/bill/bob in my minmus kethane camp
-
you can always add some wheels under your command pod to drive you home anyways

i dont think landed an US space craft in Iran/USSR/N.Korea/ is a good idea so... in the same sense... i dont think landing at KSC 2 will be considered "near"

how to reenter the atmosphere with a plane?
lammatt replied to lammatt's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
so if i put the same number of intakes at the bottom... i'll gain my control back next time... true? -
i landed my first re-entering plane today.
-
simple answer: no. learn your high school physics...and you will understand why well.... anyways...the fact is... you will be approaching at a high relative speed w.r.t the Mun and that speed is greater than the escape speed. the Mun cant provide any mean to kill the excess speed unlike the Earth which has an atmosphere to dissipate the KE as heat.

How to keep SSTO space plane from flipping.
lammatt replied to Tingle's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
you have to kick in your rockets before your jets die and then shutdown the jet right befor they kill themselves because i guarantee you... the flame out will be asymmetric and you will spin regardless -
Most efficient way to gain orbit of a planet
lammatt replied to Ultermarto's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
aerobrake is your friend... (that's why moho is harder to orbit since it has no atmosphere and your approach speed is pretty high) -
how to reenter the atmosphere with a plane?
lammatt replied to lammatt's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
but it'll take forever to land if i attack the atmosphere at such a shallow angle....wont it? (well... i guess it's still better than crashing tho~) -
how to reenter the atmosphere with a plane?
lammatt replied to lammatt's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
no i dont pitch up that early... who would pitch up during a descend when he's ~40km up high anyways i started pointing at the direction of travel (ie. surface mode velocity vector) and when the reentry flame kicks in... the plane pitches up uncontrollably even when i push it back down with the help of the mighty RCS -
my planes lose control almost everytime when they re-enter the atmosphere: it usually happen at altitude when the reentry effect kicks in most of the time i have no authority in any axis and it turns into a spin (even if i have RCS to have exerting some torque for me) - it goes like...it pitches up so hard that i cant push the nose back down even with the RCS on while sometimes i can regain control before they smash into the ground... it's more than usually that the Kermans become helpless and die... (the only success i can land my re-entering plane is when i throttle the rockets toward the horizon to raise my velocity vector so that i can have a more shallow angle of descend...but i've seen a lot of youtubers's clips that they can hold their planes' nose pretty well without any thrust during the descend till they reach well below ~10km) this is the plane i was flying; it's basically the stock Aeris4A with a larger wing and a trailing center of lift and a 3-man cockpit and a few extra intakes
