  1. Such absolutely amazing work. OoohOohoooohhh!! Do the nuclear reactors next! Also, get well soon! ~Steve EDIT: zzz, I also just noticed you seem to have a problem with the AM collector texture - the ZKWS is flipped on the panel so it actually shows ZKMS.
  2. There's always KAS... which I don't use. I might pick it up eventually, but I don't do much on the ground. I usually just land bases and leave them. I haven't needed to do anything with a base until I found out Fractal_UK planned for the nuke reactors to eventually run out of UF6... even with reprocessing. I'm actually kinda happy for it. Gave me yet another excuse to refine all of my ship designs. I'm one of those sickos that spend the vast majority of my time designing craft and not flying them. Never had a problem with docking, though... land or space. ~Steve
  3. The short answer is: docking ports. See how the reactor itself is docked? Land a ship on top of it... pull the reactor off.. drop a new one on. By the time you need to swap it out... science / tech won't be a problem. ~Steve
  4. No one forces you to upgrade... just wait until mods are compatible. ~Steve
  5. I actually keep these 3 for test flights and grand tours... They're never gonna die in my Space Program! My set up is 15 CPU cores, 3 labs... and a 2.5m reacotr+gen on docking ports so it can be swapped after a couple decades. With this set up you only need to upgrade the generator and you can run all 15 AI cores (once upgraded) and 3 labs and be barely under 30% reactor. This will let it run for right about 10 years before reprocessing. FOR SCIENCE! Just ask if you want the .craft. ~Steve EDIT: Oh Fractal... you going to be able to iron out that crew bug from the VAB? Kind of annoying having to always access the crew tab last or you launch with empty labs.
  6. Except robot miners can't place flags... Besides... my understanding is that we'll need boots on the ground in 0.22 to get more science. Better get into the habit. Oh.. and does stupidity factor into everything a science lab does or just research? ~Steve
  7. I just stick all my dumb-dumbs in miners... and manning refueling stations in the middle of no where. Your method seems too quick and easy on them. I prefer to make the stupid suffer a boring life sitting in the middle of no where. Oh... and I use a lot of CPU cores. ~Steve
  8. Well, I initially didn't like how narrow you made the tube itself.... but it's growing on me. I can see some definite up sides to it... like ship visibility. Besides, this will rarely be the main tank for anything important. Not like I'm going to miss the small amount of fuel lost. ~Steve
  9. O, Talisar... I take it back. I am really starting to like the aesthetics of the thinner toroidal tanks more. ~Steve
  10. Fractal_UK Anyway to prioritize which order resources are displayed under the resource tab? Kind of annoying to not have them in the same order every time. Seems like each launch has a different resource order. I'm sure this has something to do with the build / parent order with individual craft, but I figured I'd ask if there's something quick and easy that could be done. Or does someone know a mod? ~Steve
  11. What does zzz use? His models and textures are absolutely insane... Like his convertible Advanced Alcubierre Drive: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/43839-0-21-KSP-Interstellar-%28Now-with-Heat-Radiators%21%29-Version-0-6-2-%28Beta%29?p=685428&viewfull=1#post685428 It's bonkersly awesome ~Steve
  12. Well.. we ARE playing a physics simulator. Can't have physics without math... ~Steve
  13. UbioZur Absolutely amazing mod concept that's obviously still heavily in early development. Don't get discouraged. Many of us have very high hopes for this mod. Keep up the good work! ~Steve
  14. Antimatter tanks from KSP Intersteller. I highly recommend you check it out. It's the least OP advanced tech mod I've ever seen. Take the Alcubierre Drive for example. Yes, it's a warp drive... but it doesn't change your relative velocity. It puts you in a physics bubble and moves space around you. Exactly how it's supposed to work, in theory. The mod also has a wide selection of nuclear reactors, antimatter reactors, microwave trasmittesr/receivers for power... etc. Take a look http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/43839-0-21-KSP-Interstellar-%28Now-with-Heat-Radiators%21%29-Version-0-6-2-%28Beta%29 ~Steve PS I highly recommend that if you want to use it.... watch the Scott Manley video and look at the wiki at all the tables to get an idea what's going on. There's a LOT of accurate math in this mod.
  15. Talisar... your parts don't seem to work with the welder... wonder why. ~Steve
  16. Yup.. tried that for a bit. But I despise 3.75m hubs. pffft. It's all good. Not even sure if I really want to use a bigger sphere. Was just asking. ~Steve
  17. I know man, I read it the first time you said it. So odd... restarted KSP and now it's working. It was a very odd bug. It would only sit on the opposite side of the original parent part. I even tried reseating both the parent and child part a number of times and kept having the problem. Oh well... it fixed itself. So... just to confirm... you are or are not thinking about including larger spheres? ^.^ ~Steve
  18. Also... I'm having a hard time building a Kethane miner out of a 7.5m sphere tank that I like. I find myself sticking to my K-82K for now. Delivers around 72,000 K per trip from Minmus to my LKO station... so it's not bad. Anyone have any pics of sphere tank based K miners? I'm up for some ideas. ~Steve EDIT: Wooo.. maybe I'll try something like a Virus model. Might look a little funny though with that massive tank on top.
  19. Also... something seems to be broken with the hubs. It's no longer going to the center of the hub. It's sticking the tank on the side opposite the parent part. Might want to take a look at that. ~Steve EDIT: Or is that intentional so you can more easily see the pipe spokes?
  20. Wait a sec... you said you were going to make a 14m toroidal... did you plan on making a 14m Sphere too? Wait.. you were going to keep the sphere ratios. So.. does that mean 11.25m sphere? ~Steve
  21. I was actually just about to post about this... heh. So yeah.. the current spheres' math is perfect. ~Steve
  22. So... dare to compare! http://ncalculators.com/area-volume/cylinder-calculator.htm Rockomax is 1.25m radius and 7.5m tall Volume is 36.8304m³ Surface Area is 68.75m² LFO is 2880/3520 Dry Mass is 4t http://ncalculators.com/area-volume/sphere-calculator.htm SP-L-1F LFO tank is 3.75m radius Volume is 220.9821m³ Surface Area is 176.7857m² LFO is 17280/21120 Dry Mass is 13.5 Well... you're LFO is spot on... unfortunately your dry mass is about 3.215 tons too high. Dry mass on the 7.5m spheres should be closer to 10.2857 ~Steve ps I guess I can make do with skinny toroidals =P
  23. Well crap... I was just eyeballing it. Damnit... you made those torii too damn skinny! So little volume! /cry But if you leave them as-is the Large Toroidal should be 3.445t dry mass. Damnit. ~Steve ps Kinda odd... I only cared about comparing/checking for accuracy with these new tanks... I wonder how the current spheres compare. Let's check!
  24. Sorry to do this, Talisar... but your math is wrong on the Toroidal tanks (or my visual measurements are). Comparing to a standard orange rockomax, which we all agree is the gold standard when it comes to fuel storage, we get these values. http://ncalculators.com/area-volume/cylinder-calculator.htm Rockomax is 1.25m radius and 7.5m tall Volume is 36.8304m³ Surface Area is 68.75m² LFO is 2880/3520 Dry Mass is 4t http://www.endmemo.com/geometry/torus.php New Large LFO Toroidal has a 3.75m outer radius and 2.5m inner radius Volume is 24.095714m³ Surface Area is 77.106284m² LFO is 1156.5/1413.5 Dry Mass is 6t We can see just at a glance that the numbers don't add up.... but when we do the math it's very wrong. LFO should be 1884.195/2302.905 Dry Mass should be 4.486t (or whatever rounding you wish to do) Sorry, Talisar... I love ya... but you're just pre-nerfing these new toroidals way too hard. ~Steve
  25. Well... less parts.. more centralized center of gravity... shorter length... less chance to hit things when maneuvering around other vehicles... EDIT: Oh yeah, and least possible mass for most possible volume! Yay geometry! I tell ya it's a win win. And Toroidals go great between them! I store the vast majority of my fuel as kethane and just refine what I need. So... spheres of kethane.. 1 toroidal monoprop... 1 LFO (liquid and oxy in one!)... 1 Xenon. What's not to like?! ~Steve
