All glory to the divebomber. Ive got a tactic that is working repeatably to get to the enemy AA emplacements without getting shot full of holes, and then just work the treeline for some blitz strafing. Hopefully when I get around to working the Japanese tech tree I'll have enough points saved up to not bankrupt myself crashing into trees. The kingfisher really doesn't roll as well as the peashooter, makes it a lot harder to strafe and then roll to avoid return fire. Shame Chobit is so high level already I doubt I'd be able to face off. My tailgunner would have fun with you.

Alright I think I'm getting the hang of this. Just took out 4 AA emplacements in a single life. Turns out as long as I load into Stalingrad I am okay, any other map and the game crashes. Known bug at the moment. But I've got German and American both up to level 1 now, and my cashflow is starting to go up.
-
Hey, I just messaged someone that I think is you in-game. OdinYggd is the IGN I am using. Also apparently I am affected by the update bug that makes most of the maps unusable for IGP-powered users. Shame too, I was going to fly an American plane for a bit for comparison to the HE51C
-
Nope. The armor is to protect it from other ground forces. Most vehicle armor is incapable of stopping 50cal bullets, and a lot of aircraft are using guns far larger than that. Also I got a few flights in, but now my whole system hangs when I try to enter the flight field. I have a few ideas for what happened, but this might take a few tries to sort out.

Oops. I just kamikazee'd a surface artillery. Came in a little lower than I wanted to and clipped a wing on it. I get about 25 FPS with a ping of 70ms. My laptop seems to be on the edge with this. Also if I alt-tab off of it while waiting in the battle queue, the game crashes when the battle starts. Seems it won't take me long to unlock the good stuff though.
-
Not really. What plane are you having problems with? So far mine handles about like I expected, other than the elevator control being inverted and the throttle keys not being what I am used to. Just won my first mission. Took out an AA gun on the first try, although I did get shot down shortly after- had a guy pelting me from behind, and I was at too low an altitude to shake him. You know you're in a bind when you can see your wing melting from the hail of bullets coming at you.

Achtung: Odin is in the air. He51C, fully loaded. Uh, make sure you check your six. Once I get the hang of flying this thing, I will sneak up on you with it. IGN is OdinYggd. Shame I have to unlock the Zero though. But to me the mouse guidance is backwards, I'm used to mouse down for nose up. That and I have a strong urge to remap the controls to match those of KSP, throttle on WS is confusing when I am used to it being Shift-Ctrl

Now this type of research has my attention. Making stuff melt with lasers is easy, but I can only think of a few ways to use a laser to cool something. Most of them involve using a pump laser to induce secondary photons from a material that is engineered to generate photons from heat. Not sure if Erbium will do that, but I am sure other elements have the same property of emitting photons of one wavelength when bombarded by photons of a different wavelength. Erbium just happens to have the right wavelengths for use in optical fiber amplifiers.

Laser beams result in heat in the object they strike. Applies to any intensity of laser really, with the delivered power falling off at distance to dispersion and attentuation. If a high enough power beam is produced, it melts and vaporizes what it strikes. Industrially lasers have been used for metal cutting for some time now, but these lasers are only effective at very close range. A laser weapon needs to accomplish the same focused beam for rapid cutting, but it has to do it at a long enough effective range to be useful against guns and missiles. Also the US Navy laser was developed in part with L3 Communications. I considered applying for a job with them at one point, they'd have plugged me into their think tank for these projects. Kinda glad I passed on that, I really don't want to be involved in weapons development. Though I'm perfectly okay with making propulsion and energy transfer systems for peaceful purposes.

Scramble, bird dog flight. Scramble, bird dog flight. IGN of OdinYggd. I'll be the new guy making a Zero handle like a banana peel on the sidewalk.

Oh, so they finally have a laser turret that actually works. Still needs more firepower, that wing needs to be sliced off instantly instead of requiring the laser to be focused on it so long. In the time it took to inflict serious damage, a laser guided missile could lock onto the source turret and destroy it.

I raise you a glass of wine. That is a fine song right there, some good Touhou music. Un Owen was Her, correct? Edit: I'm used to these two versions of it:

Yes. Kind of like what we had been doing, having a conversation through forum posts instead of an IM chatroom or an IRC channel. Serious stuff worthy of its own thread should get its own thread in the relevant section, while utter nonsense should not be on this forum unless it happens to fit a thread relevant to it. The cat thing I'd actually allow, purely on the basis that we were talking about cats at the time making those images relevant to the conversation. Now if someone randomly posted a cat gif in response to someone else raging because their laythe return mission encountered a game breaking glitch, that I would have to do something about.

Alright, after two trial runs with threads of this type, I am pleased to present a thread designed for people to hold light conversations. Be advised, although this thread will not be held to a set topic it also can only exist with a zero-tolerance policy regarding spam posts and rule-violations. It will be watched closely for instances of either type. Per the standard Forum Rules Please take particular note of section 2: 2. Messages 2.1 Definition of message A message includes any and all means a user has available to communicate with other members. This includes but is not limited to forum posts and private messages, irc chat messages, avatars, signatures, usernames and general profile information. 2.2 Forbidden content Messages which contain or link to the following are explicitly forbidden: Piracy or discussion of piracy; Discussions of a political, ideological or religious nature; Adult content, such as nudity, sexually suggestive or explicit images, gore and drugs; Harassment of other users or staff, this includes insulting, threatening, stalking, racism, sexism and impersonation as well as posting private conversations; Vulgarity and profanity; Conspiracy theories; and Links to commercial initiatives. 2.3 Other forbidden messages Messages that lack any substantial content, for example messages that contain only reaction images, simply a '+1' or jargon; and Messages that derail a topic or 'trolling'. 2.4 Language, spelling and grammar All messages must be sent in English unless otherwise indicated. The user should make an effort to use proper grammar and spelling, meaning that txt-speak, 1337-speak and other exclusionary jargons are prohibited. Predecessor threads: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/30513-Dump-your-insanity-here%21 http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/27520-Laythecat-is-bestcat-%28Chobit-s-house-of-madness%29-The-one-thread-to-rule-them-all%21 Okay, that's that. Here we go.

And so, I leave you with a postcard from Laythe. Greetings from Toblerone base, future site of the first off-planet chocolate factory. (Also, do not make a new thread to replace this one. I'm still working on getting the okay for an official one to exist.)
-
Has to do with the size of thread causing complications for certain moderation actions. Also, I am considering adding a few extra rules to the next one to keep it targetted towards conversation instead of spam. In that role it is practical, whereas runaway spam threads bring trouble and cannot be allowed even in this part of the forum.

It's the final countdown... *cranks up some Europe*

Most of mine is older country and classic rock. Stuff from the 70s 80s and early 90s. Nothing quite like Steve Miller's Fly like an Eagle with album cut space intro for a space station rendezvous. (1973)

Bah, you kids and your dubstep. Music hasnt been good in a while now.

You guys just got the ancient tune of Pacman stuck in my head. Pacman. babeep. pacman. babeep.

How does this work as far as unlocking craft goes? Cause if I have to actually be any good at it to unlock the craft I like this might annoy me to some extent before I start to enjoy playing it. And that's surprising that their A6M2 has a poor roll response. In Warbirds III the roll response on the A6M2 was a little sluggish, but definately there when I needed it.
-
I registered the same username as my forum name on here. When I get it to download (tonight if not tomorrow) you'll probably see me in either an A6M2 or a B17G. If they have a P47 I might fly that as well, the thunderbolt had a very soft stick in Warbirds III and I had a lot of fun with it. Not too familiar with the German aircraft actually, you'll have to fill me in on what's out there.
-
Is that a robo-miku? Why does such a thing exist.
-
Didn't know there ever was a manned V1. They only ever flew unmanned, designed to fly at a target and explode on impact. Later fighter pilots defending against them would learn that they could upset the flight dynamics of the V1 by flying wingtip to wingtip with it, using their slipstream to stall the V1's wing and send it reeling out of control.
-
I remember hearing about a lot of Zeros doing it as well. They'd run their A6M2 down to the very bottom of its supplies, set it on a collision course with the controls lashed, and then bail out.
