I'm getting some Nullrefs with this on the latest "release" "NaN m/s" for one... -
Martian Robot Defense! Co-op story!
Whirligig Girl replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in Forum Games!
Sorry Megatiger, there is no Cubesat from KSP yet, neither is there any plausibility of landing an aircraft carrier on Mars. Also, remember, SPirit isn't stuck, because they're all restored to full function. I'm vetoing yours Megatiger. -

Simple reaction wheel request
Whirligig Girl replied to DrD's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Solution: Don't use reaction wheels in planes. THey're super-duper unrealisitc in rockets, let alone planes! -

Do you have the included regolith folder installed as well? - - - Updated - - - There's a bug where if you run out of exotic matter, you can never activate the drive again. -

In my experience it only shuts down in the atmosphere. He must have changed that. -
Martian Robot Defense! Co-op story!
Whirligig Girl replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in Forum Games!
Opportunity: What was that noise? It seems like a rather good time to initiate exploration. arrow lands lodged inside Opportunity's solar panel, wedged between the chassis and the panel Opportunity: This hurts. They didn't tell me I would be hurt on Mars. I even took the opportunity to ask before they loaded me on the rocket. But no one answered... Opportunity pans around, and spots the archer. Opportunity: Hmm. I should probably get out of here. The alien archer runs towards Opportunity. Opportunity: RUN! Opportunity slowly roves away, while the alien trips on a rock in persuit. Opportunity: I need to take this opporunity to hide while that thing struggles to get up. -
Idea for realistic Enterprise-D: The saucer section is a set of artificial gravity rings spinning all at different rates, the turbolifts are required to go between decks without having to jump between decks at different speeds. The centermost section is static, but mounts the bridge centrifuge and counterweight. It also holds zero-gee science labs and extra cargo space. The engineering section is replaced by the warp drive, and the warp nacelles are now propellant tanks with fusion motors attached to the end. The same is true of the TOS Enterprise, except only one spinny-deck on the saucer section and a zero-gee bridge

[WIP] Stand-alone (no dependencies) Alcubierre drive
Whirligig Girl replied to RoverDude's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Well, yeah, that's what I do; dropping out and realigning. But it breaks the sort of "Warp 5, ENGAGE" idea of hitting the Z key and then holding down the CTRL key when you get close. Smoother control is very much needed. At least it's not like the KSPI warp drive where you need to regenerate ALL of your ExoticMatter as soon as you drop out of warp. Here's a scary idea for fun if you do decide to remove the XenonGas requirement. If you run out of ExoticMatter while at warp, you can no longer control your throttle. (you can no longer control the warping of space) -

Whirligig Girl replied to RoverDude's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Is this in the dropbox dl? Also, I am not able to effectively turn my ship while at warp speed, and I'm getting glitchygeeforces and some minor-ish phantom torques. (Which is why turning the ship at warp is so important!) -
So I wanted to reboot from the other thread. Don't take the setup seriously. Suddenly, one day, out of the blue (or pink I guess), all of the mars rovers and robots are no longer accepting signals from Earth. They're still sending data back! The cool thing though is that every single piece of junk that's landed on Mars is now restored to the same functionality that it was at right after landing. Also, now it's time to truly suspend your disbelief. Now all the rovers/landers/robots have human "souls" (i.e., their main computer is now magically a human brain), and they remember everything that has been done before this (only when they are awake. They don't remember anything after their battery is depleted and they had shut down). Their personality is related to their name. They will degrade over time just as the did the first time around. They can only talk to each other every once in a while, when a satellite flies overhead more than one of them, or if they ever get within 3.7 km of each other (horizon distance on Mars). Now it gets even weirder (unless you're a 40s-60s sci-fi writer), as now there are humanoid martians (Tall green humans) suddenly in a civilization on mars. They're in a bronze age, and they're hostile. They want to kill the rovers because they are like demons or something. How do the rovers survive? How long do they survive? What tactics do they use? Rules You MUST have fun. You must use scientific accuracy. (Remember how slowly robot joints and wheels move!) You must use the "yes" rules of improv. The rovers don't think they are humans or anything, so no referring to any inhernetly human terms. (Kissing, Bathing, or Scratching your face, for instance) Your post must continue the story You act as the narrator. You must quote the post that you are acting from chronologically. (to avoid the confusions of two people using the text editor at the same time) -If it's a long post, snip out the content aside from the first sentence. Nothing physically impossible can happen (aside from anything directly relating to the setup) You can write from the point of view of Jet Propulsion Laboratory, The Mars Network, or the Aliens. If someone violates any of these rules in the post, you can bypass the rules of improv. Keep the post less than 4 paragraphs at a time. You MUST use proper punctuation, and if at all possible, grammar and spelling. Nothing that is mostly spam, no spamming letters. Nothing inappropriate! Please refer to this list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_artificial_objects_on_Mars I'll start. Spirit: Huh... wait a minute... I'm awake again. Oh thank goodness. *yawns* spirit pans around his camera, getting a good view of the area. Spirit: What? Something's moving! A spear with a very large wing surface is thrown at Spirit, it lands in front of Spirt. Another one is thrown...

They move you, and your velocity updates in real time instead of when you jumpm out of warp. -

Make space walkable
Whirligig Girl replied to hazarada's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
He was talking about accelleration, which does create gravity. 1G accelleration of a ship is equal to Earth/kerbin gravity. And if the spin of a ring was faster than walking pace, you wouldn't freefall by going left. -

Whirligig Girl replied to RoverDude's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
This is good, because the jet engine sound nicely matches the effect.Another suggestion I have for the operation of the Drive: Remove the XenonGas requirement. Make it only use ExoticMatter, as warp drives need no Remass. (Reaction Mass) Meanwhile, a separate engine: An "Impulse Engine" which uses XenonGas and ElectricCharge for thrust. VERY high Isp, NOT a super high power requirement (Because I hate huge power requirements for stock compatibility.) And here's the kicker: Ability to reverse thrust. (Still only ONE nozzle, but it just sorta... sucks in space by using up the XenonGas? I don't know, Star Trek did it. I'm getting a real Star Trek vibe from this.) -

I've been having a ton of fun with the W.I.P. Warp Drive. One thing I do not like is the warp bubble. Yeah it looks pretty and all, but it doesn't look really... authentic. A proper warp bubble would appear to gravitationally lens the area around it. Think of the gravitational lensing around a black hole, but instead of blackness there's just a normal circle of non-lensed space with the ship inside. -
So I'm rather extremely new to this programming buisness, and most of the reason I want to code is for Kerbal Space Program. indeed, my first code ever was written for Kerbal Operating System, and it told a two-stage SRB rocket how to fly. Yesterday I realized it was possible to program a TI-83 Graphing Calculator. I spent most of my class not listening to the teacher and instead learning how to program in the TI-BASIC language. I created three programs for it: Quadratic Formula, Linear Equations (Just for fun, didn't actually need it), and Delta-V. So my programming knowledge is not exactly... real. But I definitely want to make it real! But I've spent 10 minutes trying to find a good tutorial for getting started with KSP modding, and I haven't found anything. Obviously part modding is easy, editing part.cfgs is not exactly programming. I desparately want to learn how to write plugins! After all, if I can write plugins for KSP, I might eventually even be able to move on to the next step: making a game.

This is awesome! I have a feeling the Star Trek mod (SciFi Shipyards) Will LOVE This. Will it be usable as a framework for other mods? Like Firespitter.dll is used even though it was originally meant for just the one parts pack? -

If a proper, realistic warp bubble like that can be made, then I might have to get back to my Black Hole Mod. -
The Joke Thread, Bad ones, Dad ones, maybe even some good ones :)

Isn't Staging just Xzibit's approach to rocketry? Isn't Teen Pregnancy just Xzibit's approach to parenting? Isn't Universal Simulation philosophy just Xzibit's approach to Cosmic Philosphy? Isn't a Palindrome just Xzibit's approach to turning things inside out? Isn't The Cosmological Argument just Xzibit's approach to pseudoscience? (If you don't know who Xzibit is, do a google image search for him and you might recognize him, and suddenly these jokes are funny, dawg.) -
[1.4] SpaceY Heavy-Lifter Parts Pack v1.17.1 (2018-04-02)
Whirligig Girl replied to NecroBones's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I very much like this pack. It's much improved from your MRS pack, which is kinda meh. It works very well with 3.2x scale. -

THERE IS TOO MUCH AWESOME HERE! AAAAAAAAAAAAAH! THIS IS TRULY THE GREATEST STORY I'VE EVER READ! YOU MUST FLESH IT OUT INTO A FULL STORY! That's the idea. It's the ingenuity of the rovers's new brains that would be needed to get them out of this. Space-Age knowledge, some interesting tech, and a little bit of mobility. They might not survive long, the point is to think about which would survive the longest and how long would that be. Put yourself inside a rover's body, is what I'm saying. -

Except that we need the scientists to do the GMO'ing! (Of course we don't really, but don't tell Congress that!)
