Requesting Voice Actors For A KSP Cinematic
Whirligig Girl replied to ZooNamedGames's topic in KSP Fan Works
I can speak and send files. I think I have a particularly good KSC launch announcer voice. -
Well I'll be darned, I was going to do this mod and I probably wouldn't have done it quite as attractively, dangit. That looks better than I'm comfortable admitting.

[1.2] Real Solar System v12.0 Dec 8
Whirligig Girl replied to NathanKell's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Question: What if you wanted the stock planets at stock scale in the Real Solar System? Answer: No why would anyone want that -
Kerbin Is Real is a mod that no one asked for and I really can't think of a player type who would play this. Nonetheless, if you ever wanted to have the Kerbal planets coexist with the real world solar system, here's your chance to see that dream realized. Requires Real Solar System. Moho: Orbits below Mercury Eve: First satellite of Venus Gilly: Second satellite of Venus Kerbin: First satellite of Earth, color pallet changed to match RSS Earth texture. Mun: second satellite of Earth Minmus: third satellite of Earth Duna: Third satellite of Mars Ike: Trojan of Duna Dres: Near-Earth Asteroid. Jool: Orbits Uranus Laythe: Below Io Vall: Still orbits Jool Tylo: Still orbits Jool Bop and Pol: lower orbit around Jool. Eeloo: Between Dione and Rhea. Download at Spacedock

I had built a mod based around this system, but I lost the configs and the interest. I have to say, with Sigma Binary or Principia, Mandrake and Rutherford is a good idea, I might use it later.

We need the later BR logo (the one with the tracks and the zig-zag) British Railways did after all patent a flying saucer design in the 1970s. And if we have a NWRR, why not an NWR?

What is the Kopernicus Creativity Marathon? An open competition for those who want to build planets. Every three weeks, a new challenge, describing what sort of planet or celestial body we are looking for. After the closing date for each challenge, the planets shall be judged and the winner shall be put in the Community Planet Pack. Judging: Planets shall be judged by thee following characteristics: Beauty: How attractive they are to view, and the level of detail and apparent effort was put into the world. Accuracy: How closely they match the challenge guidelines. Creativity: How unique and original is the planet, its features, and its use of procedural generation and/or textures. General Entry Rules: Planets must be made using an up-to-date version of Kopernicus and Kerbal Space Program. Any planets that are not updated to the current version will be disqualified. Planets must be created for this contest. No planets released in other planet packs may be entered. Any planets must be entered for the competition before the completion of each challenge. After the final day, submissions will be ignored. All planets must be released to myself under an MIT license, such that the worlds can be polished and made more consistent with each other so they can be released as a community planet pack. We can discuss alternate licenses in the private messenger. All credit will be given to the creators of the planets. Any entry containing a generic Space Engine export will be disqualified, however those which use the in-game editor may not be if it looks good in KSP. One planet per person per challenge round. Co-operation with other people is fine, but must be restricted to one planet per team. The above two rules may be loosened if a challenge calls for a specific number of bodies together. No plans, ideas, screenshots/images, or files regarding your planet may be shared until the completion of the challenge round for which it was designed. -CURRENT CHALLENGE ROUND- Post Date: July 18th, 2017 Closing Date: August 8th, 2017 Time: 3 Weeks The terrestrial space agency NASA has just released topographical data of one of their solar system's dwarf planets, Pluto. As such, the gods of the Solar System are gloating at us. We must one-up them. Your task is to design an icy dwarf planet oribiting the sun outside Eeloo. GUIDELINES/RULES: -Take inspiration from the known dwarf planet terrains: Pluto, Charon, and Triton. -Its orbit must be apparently stable, and not particularly ridiculous. -Try to strike a balance between realism and beauty. -Planetary radius should be between 70km and 180km, with a density between 1.5 g/cm^3 and 2.5 g/cm^3. --Radius, Mass, Density, and Gravity are related, in Earth-relative units, as G = M/(R^2) = R*D. --Earth density = 5.51 g/cm^3. Earth radius = 6370 km. --If your values for geeASL don't fit within the radius and density, then it will be lowered in the polishing phase. -You may add a small minor moon if you wish, but it will be judged separately from the dwarf planet. If it is not satisfactory it will be removed.

A Thread for Writers to talk about Writing
Whirligig Girl replied to Mister Dilsby's topic in KSP Fan Works
Yes. You, yes, you, as in: "people who are not necessarily Kuzzter" can play as the Kerbulans. Which reminds me, I need to add displayName = Kerbulus for career mode. Now in order to contribute to relevant discussion: my worldbuilding with respect to Kerbal Space Program is only to be taken literally. My approach is to make sure that any hypothetical authors covering my work have as little freedom as possible as little confusion about the world as possible, through science definitions and planet descriptions. Kerbulus excluded, of course. -
I came back as a bag of snack food accidentally taken off the shelf before the expiratiooon date. Did a large procession launch their boosters as my head poofed in the basket and was everybody landing on the casket? Now it's over, I'm dead, and I haven't Dun anything that I want or I'm still alive, and there's nothing I want to do.

I never like to do it, but I suppose this is one case where forcing Flight Globals Index would be a good thing. I'll investigate further for the next release.

Actually the new release is designed to allow you to switch between planets within a save. You just have to stop the game and relaunch after going through the save file.

Gilly Space Program wouldn't quite work. The space center would be too large compared to the terrain and the runway would end up above the surface. However, a terraformed Jool space program is in fact a possible plan.

For the time being, I have given Alien Space Programs to @Gordon Fecyk. The above link is the new thread. Alien Space Programs will take the KSC and place it on one of the several other planets in the solar system. Features Eve, Duna, Minmus, Jool, Tylo, and Laythe are now available as playable homeworlds. Kerbin, now devoid of Kerbal life, has been renamed Bin. Accurate PQSMods to the stock planets. Balanced science multipliers. (Except for Jool, because I really haven't the faintest clue how to balance that) ALTERNIS KERBOL LITE EDITION (Laythe Space Program) LITTLE GREEN MEN FROM DUNA (Duna Space Program) KERBAL SPACE PROGRAM: BAD-S MODE (Eve Space Program) MINMUS AINT NO PUDDING (Minmus Space Program) KERBAL SPACE PROGRAM: BadS Mode Part 2: Electric Tyloogaloo (Tylo Space Program) (See also: Whirligig World) REALISM OVERHAUL: GREEN EDITION (Jool Space Program) Download (NOTE: If you downloaded the mod between August 11th 2017 and January 7th, 2018 from the Github link, you got the wrong version! This is due to a forum bug that prevents changes to image links from saving. This should be fixed now. Sorry) Download at GitHub Spacedock Mirror Installation Download and install Kopernicus. Ensure that ModuleManager, ModularFlightIntegrator, and Kopernicus are all installed. (You don't need to reinstall any of these if you already have them) Put the AlienSpacePrograms folder in GameData. Select a New Homeworld in the settings config file. Homeworld Selection Open HomeWorldSetting.cfg with notepad or an other text editor. Decide which world you want. Write the name of the planet you want in Homeworld = [planet name] So if you want Laythe, you should have "Homeworld = Laythe" Recommended/Compatible Mods Eve Optimized Engines, by @OhioBob, which adds Eve-balanced rocket engines. I highly recommend these for use on Eve, else the game is rather difficult to play in career mode. Explodium Breathing Engines, by @Gordon Fecyk, which adds Eve-air-breathing jet engines. Personally I don't like the idea for realism reasons, but if you want to be able to use jet engines on Eve, this should work fine. Planned Features Art pass, make the planets less bleh-looking while retaining the stock terrain and general appearance. (Nothing so complicated as a Revamped system) Official Scatterer and E.V.E. Compatibility. Find better locations for the space centers, including optional medium and high altitude space centers for Eve. Better science multipliers for Jool? Unique descriptions (and names?) for every planet in the system depending upon which planet is the homeworld. Texture Replacer textures for the kerbals of each planet. Credits @GregroxMun (Creator) @Gordon Fecyk (Updating the mod to modern versions of KSP and Kopernicus, fixing bugs, balancing tweaks, and more) @KillAshley (Surface Texture configs from KASE) @Sigma88 (Assistance with the initial creation of Duna Space Program) @Probus (Co-creator of Little Green Men from Mars, inspiration for Duna Space Program) License Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike 4.0

Alien Space Programs - Dev Thread
Whirligig Girl replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
My first mod was updating someone else' mod too. It started just wanting to get Alternis Kerbol working again because I wanted to play it, it has ended up with so much more. As for Alien Space Programs, I'm considering expanding to other worlds in the system. After the next official release I mean. Another three worlds: Tylo, Mun, and Moho. All vacuum bodies, plus I need Tylo Space Program anyway for another mod I'll be doing. I might even do a set of Alien Space Programs for other mods. Alternis Laythe Space Program isn't much of a change from Alternis Kerbol, but Alternis Tylo certainly is. I intended to do that the first time around, but then I lost interest. Your modifications have made me feel the obligation to continue. Thanks for the changelog and your work in creating the changes. I'm likely to update the mod and implement your changes on Monday. -
Alien Space Programs - Dev Thread
Whirligig Girl replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
With your permission and of course with credit to you, I'd like to take your modifications and make some updates of my own before I update the OP. Tell me when you've finished making whatever changes you are going to. I've been silently following your Github Kopernicus Issue thread eagerly. Previously I had just been planning to export more accurate maps for Height and Color Blend, but being able to use BUILTIN will be quite better. >Alternate KSC Locations: I'll take care of these >Revamped Duna: I intend to include a Duna Restoration Project version of Duna Space Program in addition to the Stock Duna Space Program. I can take care of that. >Additional Biomes: I'm a little concerned about this one, particularly single-pixel biomes when near easter eggs, which don't work. Would you mind briefing me on all of the changes you've made so far since you started the project? I thank you very much for taking up the project, but I'd like to maintain creative control of the project. I can not do anything now as I am on vacation for the next two days. But I would like to take it back over soon. -
Star Trek's Bajor System in Detail
Whirligig Girl replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in Science & Spaceflight
As addressed in the OP, it's actually cooler than the Sun. Bajor simply orbits a bit closer to its sun, and there are a lot of small, close-in mercuries in the inner system. -
Star Trek's Bajor System in Detail
Whirligig Girl replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I know full well that Star Trek is soft science fiction. No one in their right mind should be under the impression that Star Trek is fundamentally realistic. Most of the astronomy is bullgarbage. Ship design, while visually impressive, belongs no where near rocket science. The Denorios Belt and the Wormhole being a good example in this system of unnatural astronomy. But it's still fun to work out parts of it. That's why the Daystrom Institute subreddit exists. That's what Star Trek nerds have been doing for decades. All I've done with this post is taken a relatively unassuming LCARS display and extrapolated from it using astronomy and planetary science what a realistic system would look like. -
According to Memory Alpha, the Bajoran Sun is host to 14 planets. The Bajoran Homeworld is the 11th planet, and the largest in the system. There exists a plasma field around the orbit of Deep Space Nine, and it holds the unique Bajoran Wormhole. The Sun: Bajor System Taking the Blue channel value from this image of the Bajoran Sun and comparing it to the thermal color spectrum with this calculator gives us a color that corresponds to 5250, or a G9 type Main Sequence Star. Its mass is about 0.84 Solar masses and it has a luminosity of 0.6 Solar luminosities. Its habitable zone lies between 0.736 and 1.06 Astronomical Units. There are no planets massive enough to be gas giants, implying a vast system of comets and icy asteroids are retained outside the frost line. Its planetary system is tightly packed, and many of them are so hot as to be rendered uninhabitable mercury-like objects. These are likely dark grey, heavily cratered objects. The innermost two objects may be partially molten at the surface. The sun glows fairly evenly. No pictures of it exist showing sunspot activity. This could mean that the Bajoran sun has a very long rotation period and thus a very long solar activity cycle, and during the events of DS9 it has been at solar minimum. There is one known comet, designated Comet Alpha, which appears to have a semi-major axis of around 0.5 AU and an eccentricity of around 0.4-0.6. The Bajoran Wormhole The Bajoran Wormhole is a massive spacetime portal between Bajor and deep space on the other side of the galaxy. Within itself is an incredible and mysterious power source which heats up a gas torus that it emits. The Bajoran Wormhole is massive enough to have its own gravity, and bright enough to be visible to Bajor when it is open. DS9 orbits the Bajoran Sun at the Sun-Wormhole L1 point. The wormhole appears to glow unevenly when open, between around 4500 Kelvin and 10,000 Kelvin. (Yellow and blue) At its brightest, it may outshine the Sun when viewed from Bajor. If in fact the Wormhole's glow is not Thermal, but is instead an emission spectrum or some other method of generating yellow and blue light, DS9 may simply orbit the wormhole itself. The plasma torus, also known as the Denorios Belt, seems to have a significant effect on starships navigating to DS9 according to Memory Alpha. The composition of the torus appears to be Hydrogen, given the purple-pink glow of the belt in this image. The Denorios Belt stretches from 0.62 to 0.7 AU. The Planet: Bajor Homeworld and its Satellites Bajor is a Terrestrial Minshara-Class planet. It has five moons. Derna: 0.158 Bajor Radii, Near the roche limit and very close. Three unnamed, probably asteroid moons. I suspect the innermost of these is within 4 or 5 Bajor radii distant, and are close together in their orbits to one another. Jerrado: A moon large enough to have a habitable atmosphere. I'd wager it's about 0.25 Earth masses minimum to hold onto that atmosphere, so I would suspect it must be fairly distant from Bajor. This is important to finding a good guess at Bajor's characteristics. If Bajor wants to hold onto its four other moons without them being destablized (which would be disastrous in Derna's case) then Jerrado must orbit a fair distance away. However, if Bajor orbited right at 0.77 AU where Earth would to get as much light as it would from the Sun, Bajor's sphere of gravitational influence would be smaller than Earth's. Bajor must therefore be more massive and relatively further away from its sun than Earth. The tectonic and volcanic activity from Derna's extremely close orbit, as well as a higher-than-Earth-level of greenhouse gasses can make up for the loss in temperature that we get by moving it out to 0.93 AU (1.2x the Earth region) Derna presents another challenge. It looks like Derna orbits one Derna-Diameter from the surface of Bajor. We'll throw this away. We can not accept that in any reasonable planet. Instead, we'll make Bajor less dense than Earth (4.8 g/cm3 instead of 5.51 g/cm3.) and we'll make Derna denser. (6.0 g/cm3) This puts the Derna-Bajor roche limit at 2.42 * 7679 km * (4.8/6)1/3 = 17251.1 km. Bajoran Homeworld Space Engine Class = Temperate Terra with Life Star Trek Class = M Radius = 7679 km, 1.205 Earth radii Density = 4.8 g/cm3 Gravity = 0.915 Eg Mass = 1.3286 M-earth Semi Major Axis = 0.93 AU Derna Space Engine Class = Temperate Selena Star Trek Class = D Radius = 1212 km Density = 6 g/cm3 Gravity = 0.207 Eg Mass = 0.0075 M-earth Semi Major Axis = 21,963 km Jerrado Space Engine Class = Temperate Terra with extinct Life Star Trek Class = H, formerly M? Radius = 4778 km Density = 3.4 g/cm3 Gravity = 0.4628 Eg Mass = 0.26 M-earth Semi Major Axis = 1,521,161,000 km I'm not completely sure Jerrado is small enough not to interfere with the orbits of the inner four satellites. If needed, Jerrado can be shrunk to 0.1 Earth masses. Other Planets in the Bajoran System This LCARS display shows the Bajoran system, presumably to scale. From this we can get some reasonable values for size and mass. Radius is taken from chart relative to Bajor, Density is chosen pseudo-randomly based upon proximity to star. Gravity and Mass are calculated from the former two characteristics using the Earth-relative equation G = M/(R2) = R*D. Albedo is chosen pseudo-randomly. Semi-Major-Axis (distance from the sun) is measured from the chart. Temperature is based on Albedo and SMA, but I may have made a mistake with it. Most of these planets are throwaway moon-like bodies, perhaps harvestable for minerals at best. The innermost two worlds likely have molten regions. Planets 1-6 or 7 are likely tidally locked to the sun, and might have an ice-coated permanent dark side. We know that Planet 11 is the habitable Bajor, and that Planet 8 is habitable enough to be colonized. Unfortunately these do not fit within the habitable zone as we know it. I've given the planet a thick cloud cover and thus a higher albedo so it reflects as much light as possible, but its still too darn hot. The other possibility is to retcon Planet 8 so that it is actually either Planet 10 or Planet 12, both of which are in the habitable zone. Realistically Planet 8 should either have a Venus-like or hot Mars-like atmosphere. Possible fixes: Prophet Magic and/or star-shade at Planet8/BajorSun L1 point. It was meant to be "Sun," I guess @Sigma88 never changed cbNameLater = Sun to Properties/displayName = The Sun. EDIT: No, it does have displayName = The Sun. I don't know why you would see it in-game as StockSun.
