  1. Oh, Thanks for the reminder, I totally forgot about the ice ages. THis means that even in it's current position, the Earth isn't always... erm... "Locked Golden".
  2. Did you even read the whole OP? If Earth was moved toward the orbit of Venus it could sustain liquid water, and it could if it was moved out to Mars' orbit. The Goldilocks' Zone does actually exist, but not in the simple, and outdated way 3rd graders learn it. Earth's luck in it's habitability comes from the circumstances of it's formation, not so much its orbital position.
  3. Note that I'm not saying that for it's purposes the game's gravity doesn't work, it does. But I'm just clearing up a misconception when people talk about n-body physics, they say that KSP has 2-body physics, when the only real physics simulation is 1-body physics.
  4. If a mother had sickle cell disease, but the child does not, in the womb would the child have sickle cells in their system until after birth when the Baby is self-sufficient in blood-cell production? Baby and mother are connected in the womb. THis is for an argument in science class, so I need to have a good source for the answer.
  5. Brings me to an interesting point. What if they yawn, not because they know this, but instead because the information is just boring. I try to be enthusiastic and a bit funny, but it doesn't always work. How do I (or more importantly, the information) stay interesting?
  6. So you suggest I do tell them that the goldilocks zone isn't real, but instead tell them the other factors that lead to Liquid Water?
  7. If you moved Earth to Venus, Liquid Water would still exist on the surface, same with Mars's orbit. This means that the definition of the Goldilocks zone depends on the characteristics of the planet itself. If you moved Venus out to Mars, it might even be able to support liquid water in some places. The goldilocks zone has nothing to do with the star, but the characteristics of the planet itself.
  8. Videos don't work on my slow internet, can you give me the gist of it?
  9. ...The Problem is the curriculum talks about The Goldilocks's Zone, which is something that doesn't really exist. Earth could support liquid water at Mars, or at Venus, so the inside of the zone is rigged, and furthermore, liquid water exists underneath Europa, and Enceladus. Of course, I start out just making sure they actually know and understand the solar system, and lecture them about that, but what do I do when I reach The Earth's Place in The Solar System, I know they're just 8 years old but that doesn't mean they deserve to be taught outdated information! If I directly go against the lesson, the teacher (general subject teacher by the way, by no means a space expert) will think I'm crazy and tell her students I was lying, and again, I can't have them learn this. Help me bend the rules a bit here!
  10. I'll keep this short. IRL, a small asteroid and a large ship orbiting it would wobble just a little bit, probably not noticable to the naked eye. Things attract each other, things have barycenters, even in 2-body physics, becuase we're only talking about 2-body physics. In KSP, all planets are on rails, so no matter how massive your ship is, it's not going to make Gilly wobble AT ALL. Only 1 body of the two bodies is actually having gravity simulated at a time, that's the spacecraft. Gilly is not attracted to the other ship, even if you use hacked parts with masses greater than that of the Sun. Of course, the same is said for Kerbin, Mun, Minmus, Eve, Duna, etc... Huh. I thought I said this would be short. Oh well.
  11. 2 weeks is not shocking, and the acceleration would be destructive anyway. A Hohmann Transfer Orbit would take several months, but even that's not that bad. You don't have to do a Hohmann Transfer either. Imagine you had enough Delta-V to sundive, but you bring your Perihelion up to a safe distance, then do a correction burn, you could get to Mars even quicker.
  12. If you didn't live in some place like North Carolina you could just build your own motor...
  13. Fuel should be lightweight. It tends to be irl, correct me if I'm wrong, Hydrogen and Oxygen each in liquid form is less dense than water, right? I mean, I know that most of the Rocket's mass is fuel, but irl is LFO that heavy? If I recall correctly, the shuttle's tanks had to be very big even though they didn't hold much Hyrdrogen.
  14. Jumbos are either full of air, vacuum, or lightweight fuel at any given time, so of course they float. Asteroids are dense chunks of rock.
  15. Can someone port these images to the KSP Forums as s? Imgur doesn't work with my hyperslow internet.
  16. I recall way back in an old Dev stream, Claira Lyrae made a toolbox, which was meant to allow a Kerbal to do these things.
  17. Precisely! Well, I was think Post-Kerbal-Extinction, but that works too.
