How many people fail to catch the squadcasts?
NovaSilisko replied to John FX's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I prefer to just catch the summary that's invariably made by the community afterward. -
Why des adding "K" to a word make it Kerbal?
NovaSilisko replied to FishInferno's topic in KSP1 Discussion
No it didn't. It originated a hell of a lot longer ago than that, basically immediately after the game was first released in mid-2011. Back then it was common to refer to "Kearth" by the community (and devs too, I think?) I really just don't get the appeal. Is it considered clever? Original? I genuinely cannot (and never have been able to) find any humor in it whatsoever. -
Why des adding "K" to a word make it Kerbal?
NovaSilisko replied to FishInferno's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Does anybody who says it actually find it genuinely amusing in any way? It's been done to death ten times over by now, and the only way I can see anyone using it with the slightest bit of seriousness is as a meta-joke, to make fun of the tropes of the KSP community... Then again, the official twitter used the hashtag "#kictionary" once, so I have no idea. -

Squadcast Summary (24/01/2015) - The Valentina Edition
NovaSilisko replied to BudgetHedgehog 's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Agreed. I usually will lock fairings into a specific diameter for a given launch vehicle and then stick to it. That, or I just use the KW fairings. -
Approaching -30C outside. Will it break that barrier? Hope not. And then in a few months it will be +30C. God I hate the continental climate.

Pretty good, there. Only specific gripe (beyond the missing wing, which you mentioned) that I can point out is it looks like the horns are crossed over one another - or is that intentional?

Could this PC potentially handle KSP?
NovaSilisko replied to Commissioner Tadpole's topic in The Lounge
Remember - KSP doesn't use your GPU very heavily at all, and it can only properly use a single core of your CPU. Also, it can only use 4 gb of ram before it crashes, so you should be fine there. -
You see, I always get people in warm climates talking about how snow is so awesome and how they wished they lived where it was cold and etc. Then of course they start whining about how ~deathly cold~ it is at, like, 50F. I have lived with snow all my life, and want to kick its shiny sparkly collective ass into deep space by this point. First you get used to it. Then you hate it.

I'm more looking forward to the optimizations detailed in that post. About time!

Did up some lights that come on after the sun sets. Need to make proper sources for them, but... (still no real earth stars) Edit: And a quick video of a sunrise http://gfycat.com/AnimatedCornyKouprey Still at much accelerated time, final one will be real-time.

I'll certainly miss the current chase camera mode. It's invaluable for docking.

Wait a while, until there's some manner of official preorder thing set up. Donations are tricky to have, even if you put in huge red letters that donating doesn't entitle you to a copy of the game, people will think it does anyway.

Scientific Beliefs: Before & After joining this wiki
NovaSilisko replied to Souper's topic in The Lounge
There is no such thing as a scientific "belief", only fact and non-fact. -
http://gfycat.com/ShockedBogusHare Beginning of day/night cycle for headquarters scene. Still need to get a nice starfield texture, right now I'm just using a tiled one.

KSP 1.0 General Thread + All the new features
NovaSilisko replied to Daze's topic in KSP1 Discussion
You know, an official list in the vein of this thread would be very handy. "Stuff that's definitely coming in the next update", updated as is seen fit (so secret features could be left out if that's desired for instance) -
Wernher von Kerman is not really kill after all!
NovaSilisko replied to Souper's topic in The Lounge
If I ever have an official forum for anything, this is why it won't have an off-topic section. -
I'll take that gold in advance if you don't mind.

Working out the lighting for the headquarters. Need to populate it with lots of props... Textures aren't done either. Sorry. Not much I can do.

Funny story, one of the doctors at the place I went to get my glasses has a room set up that's full of space memorabilia, including a fragment of foil from Hubble, apparently brought down during the last servicing mission. As well as several meteorites and model spacecraft.
-
Let's avoid getting into lego rocketry here... Dragon V2 will use a different docking adapter than what was put on Hubble. AFAIK, Hubble has a passive iLIDS-based ring on its rear end, while during the development of commercial crew, the decision was made to switch from iLIDS to the SIMAC design from Boeing, which both commercial crew vehicles will use. I'm not sure if either of them even could dock with hubble. Also, Nibb31, Hubble is not five times higher than the ISS. I don't know where that number came from. The ISS is in a roughly 410 km circular orbit, and Hubble is in a 550 km circular orbit.

Damn it. I really liked being able to lock the camera to the ship...

Everyone who has ever gotten any disease in human history has had this substance in their body. Why haven't we learned yet?!

For those not understanding what this change means, allow me to explain. The current behaviour of engines in KSP is that, as you leave the atmosphere, the rate of fuel consumption changes as a function of your desired thrust (via throttle) and specific impulse (which changes with atmospheric pressure). This is not how real spacecraft work. The change here is making the engines work like the real thing - throttle sets a desired fuel consumption value, and then thrust is set as a function of that and your specific impulse (which still changes with atmospheric pressure). This is because the exhaust can expand much more effectively in a vacuum than in an atmosphere, and thus can impart more energy to your spacecraft. Balance-wise, this won't affect much, but it will make engines kick a bit harder in vacuum, so landers of the same design may have higher TWR than they used to. Now what we need are realistic exhaust plume particle effects to reflect the expansion of exhaust in vacuum, the current ones aren't anything like what real rocket engines look like.
