  1. Thankyou zarakon, I was trying not to make too much of a big deal out of the 24 hour thing, but yes: it's whomever replicates the feat first. And OhTehNoes: That one's a doozy!
  2. The apprentice has, again, become the master. If you're stuck for ideas, theres a couple from the original on the first post: SRBs to space, land with inverted cockpit on the gravel runway, land somewhere using only RCS fuel... zarakon, can you remember any others?
  3. I try to design to have all debris deorbited, but it can be difficult to arrange everytime, so there have been a few times i've sent out a Claw to push floating debris into a collision course.
  4. As deemed by the challenger, you have won! Where is your own challenge?
  5. Interesting result, SRV Ron, but unless the challenge specifies otherwise, it's stock parts only.
  6. For 'powered' acceleration, the highest potentially possible is the TWR of the seperatron, which is about 145 just before burnout. What would be best would be to collide with an atmosphere going as fast as possible, i've seen kerbins atmosphere reduce a 15kms rocket to 200ms before it hit the ground, which is a lot of G's.. (Assuming it's going straight down, it would cross the 70km in about 5 seconds, so it'd roughly be 300G)
  7. Wow, you guys have been busy overnight! First try: ran out of fuel circularising Second try: got into a 115x67 km orbit (after circularising). Been aerobraking for the last 20 minutes an hour. [EDIT] Didn't have enough fuel to brake
  8. Conservation of momentum: every time it 'extended to a new point in space', it would push the satellite in the other direction, which would be undone as soon as you restored it to its original state. Unless the spheres somehow 'grab hold' of space around them, it's like using a yoyo, you have to pull on it to get the weight back
  9. Thankyou for your donut submission, Claw. That is by far the smallest rocket submitted, however it is not a SSTO, as it loses the jet engine & intake. It is still an impressive achievement! Congratulations on your ion landing, OhTehNoes. You now have the right to post a 'stunt' for the rest of us to attempt! What is your challenge?
  10. ok, having beaten the last challenge, heres one of my own: Manned pod to Minmus, landing solely under ion power. No EAS-1 chairs, kerb has to be in a pod. Proof of concept: In VAB Transferring Decleration burn complete, coasting Braking burn Landed
  11. Well, you definatly won this one. Didn't even think of using downforce; well done. I don't think there could be much higher speeds attainable than what you got. Whats your challenge?
  12. Yeah, as long as its a reasonable time. 24 hours seems ok. Ok, I got one up to 121.7ms before it crashed. Strangely, Jeb survived, though he was flung almost to orbit..
  13. Technically, you can set any challenge you yourself have achieved. I think we're all experienced enough to assume you can get something to Minmus without too much hassle, so sure.
  14. Quite frankly, i learnt docking from Mechjeb. I never quite got the steps down pat, even Mr Manley wasn't able to explain it to my satisfaction. But, when Mechjeb 2.0 came out, and included a nice list of steps, i was able to watch what it did and learn. Now, I don't need its assistance anymore.
  15. You are, of course, correct. I realised after i posted that. I guess I forget it isn't 70km sometimes, and your second attempt was well above 70km in any case.
  16. It's good to see people getting so caught up in the challenges
  17. You are quite correct in your assessment Jimbimbibble! Othuyeg has met the requirements as recorded, and thus completed the letter of the challenge. EDIT: Ok, now you have also completed the intention of the challenge! Well done! Post your next challenge, good sir!
  18. Hi guys! Thanks for your submissions, you have both achieved the challenge as written. Sadly you were ninja'd by WoofMcMoose; unless he fails to submit a challenge, as the first 'completer' he gets first dibs on posting the next challenge. I neglected to specify a time limit on challenges as in this situation, so I will add a 'cap' of 24 hours. If you're not wishing to post a challenge of your own, Woof, please let us know so we can try Jim's unusual concept
  19. Ok, here's my challenge: Land 3 kerbals safely on the roof of the VAB in under 60 seconds. All 3 kerbals must be disembarked from the pod/chair. Post screenshot showing MET. Here are my pics: On the launchpad In flight All unloaded: MET 36s
  20. Hi all! This is an unconventional challenge thread. Prior the forumpocalypse, lost within the pages, was a challenge series I was participating in, posted by zarakon. I have waited for someone to replace it, but no-one has. Here is my best recollection as to how it went: H-O-R-S-E is a challenge type where you post a 'trick'. It can be as complicated or simple as you want, but you will need to complete it yourself. Once posted online, others will attempt your challenge, and the first person to show that they have successfully completed your challenge is able to post their own for others to attempt. If noone can beat your challenge within 7 days, you may post a new one. If it is your turn to post a challenge, and you fail to post one within 24 hours, the right to post a new challenge will default to the next person who successfully completed the challenge and so on. Example challenges from the original thread: Fly from LKO to Munar low orbit using only RCS thrust Land on Gilly with Mainsail engine Land on Gilly with Ion Engine. Get to orbit without using oxidiser. STANDARD RULES: Unless the rules you post forbid anything, everything is allowed. This being said, there are special rules that will always apply unless you state otherwise: Rockets are must be manned. Mechjeb or similar autopilots are not allowed Stock parts only Hyperedit and similar plugins are not to be used. My challenge is below! Lets see how we do! CHALLENGE LIST ---------------- 1: Onto the VAB in under 60 seconds, 3 kerbs| First Completed: WoofMcMoose 2: Land a plane gliding opposite the direction it was launched |First Completed: sdj64 3: Launch to orbit with a retrograde engine| First Completed: Othuyeg 4: attain 300x300km orbit, then deorbit. Land with no engines or parachutes.| First Completed: SpaceK531 5: Infiniglide around KSC.|First Completed: Zarakon 6: From minmus's surface to <250x250 LKO, using kerb jetpack| First Completed: Othuyeg 7: Fastest Minmus Rover| Fastest: Jimbimbibble (~850ms) 8: Exceed 101km/s | First Completed: cyberklad 9: Build a rocket with as few donut tanks as possible|kahlzun (11) 10: Land on Minmus using ion power, manned|First Completed: OhTehNoes 11: Kerbal to orbit on a ladder|First Completed: cyberklad 12: Same kerbal, rescued.|First Completed: zarakon 13: Small rapier SSTO & back.|cyberklad 14: Highest 'G-Force' in a manned rocket|OhTehNoes 15: Using only infiniglide, land on the gravel runway faster than 1:38| Claw (1:37) 16: Travel 80km or more using only monopropellant|Sargent890 17: Climb the VAB without flying|Claw 18: Solids to orbit, land on a moon|Tidus Klein 19: Land a SSTO on the Mun| Leibnitz 20: Build a 4-part space station | FlaccidUnicorn 21: EVA between two ships while suborbital | hawkwing 22: EVA between two ships below 50km | Jimbimbibble 23: Redirect a "Class E" asteroid to impact Kerbin (you monster)| pds314 24: Beat 12663m using only LES engines | <no attempts> I have returned from overseas, and will continue to adjudicate.
  21. You have to be very exact with the placement of the docking ports. Mechjeb helps a bit with its PAR+/- feature (lines the ship automatically) but you've picked a big & complicated mission there... not much anyone can do to make it much easier
  22. Are you talking about -any- ship you dock to, or ones in a known configuration? If it's always the same design of ship, you can have extra RCS thrusters you toggle on and off to help with the torque, but you'd probably need some part (girder?) which extends out past the shared COM.
  23. You've played it enough you need to start handicapping yourself to make it interesting.
