Space travel? How far can we go?
The Stinger replied to Mars90000000's topic in Science & Spaceflight
We already have the technology to put a base, or even a small settlement, on Mars. So mars is a realistic destination. Venus is a bit harder, it's not possible with our current technology to put a settlement on ground level. Some suggested "sky cities", but that might not be feasible at the moment. Other celestial object might be out of reach or not possible at the moment. It's estimated that there are two billion Earth-like planets in the Millky Way alone. But we need a better propulsion system if we want to reach them in a short time. That's why I'm excited about NASA looking into the possibility of a warp drive. It's human nature to explore, so space really is the next frontier. The only limiting force space exploration has is funding. -
BobCat Ind. - Colonization, exploring and research vehicle
The Stinger replied to BobCat's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Great model. Now it only needs a bow. -
Well, almost. Just need to add a few cameras and polishing the rest of the model.
-
As far as I know you can only achieve this by reversing the animation.

Al tough Atlantis was good, Rodney Mckay is great character, and Stargate Universe had a great story idea, they just don't compare to SG-1 with Richard Dean Anderson. And to me season 8 is the real ending of Sg-1, because it completes the circle with the first movie.
-
Stargate SG-1 is space exploration mixed with Ancient Egypt and other ancient cultures. Add snake like Aliens who take humans as their host, and suppress off world humans and make them believe they are their gods. It's my favorite TV series and I highly recommend it. If you want to start watching it, then I suggest you start with the movie. Al tough the show and the 1st movie have some fundamental differences, it's still the start of the TV series.

Good idea, but the question is would it push the decoupler too, or will it go through it.

LH made great skycrane model(and rover), but like you said it's too bad that the cable doesn't extend. Still something to think about. Tested a laser system today, which works good. I also added the "hand" and some antennas.
-
Maybe not in the first release, but it will have the following: - Skycrane - Cruise-stage shell - Heatshield with deployable balance devices - Parachute I have no idea how to tackle the crane part yet, ideas are welcome.
-
It's a small disc which acts like a rotatron. I'll see if I can make some screenshots when I'm done with giving the arm a texture.
-
All cameras will be useable. Yea, I'm gonna try and test that today. Edit: Tested idea for the arm, it works perfectly. Even with a camera stuck to it.
-
Arm and radioisotope power source added. Now for the "hand".
-
Small update: Managed to get a hazcam working, next up trying laser and arm function. I'm still in the process of modeling the arm, and then some other smaller parts. After that's it's texture time. Of course, but in the meantime I'll update this thread with news.
-
A planned feature list: - Raise (and lower) Mast from stowed position - Rotating "Head" - Lower (and raise) wheel suspension. - Completely functional arm - Functional hazcams/mastcams - Functional Mars Descent Imager (as camera) - Raise (and lower) High-gain antenna - Chemcam laser
-
Good idea, seems like all the things Curiosity does can be added through one mod or another.
-
Yeah, it's blender.
-
This has to be done, so here are a few WIP screenshots of our favorite rover. The plan is to have retractable wheel suspension, move-able mast and unfold-able arm or maybe controllable. The model will be less detailed than what you see in the NASA/JPL clips, but all parts will be added in one form or other.
-
Alright, I'll scout around see if I can find a good spot.

Nice challenge! With valley, do you mean impact craters or something else? Or can we build a bridge over any surface, on the Mun, with a height which is lower than 2 point at it's edge?
-
After rovers complete their missions they are normally left on the planet or moon which they landed on. The challenge is to safely land a rover on the Mun or Minmus, then send a 2nd spacecraft to retrieve it and land it safely on Kerbin. Rules: - The rover is not allowed to have rockets(or any other form of thrust) after it landed, they need to be decoupled to start the second part of the mission. - You can use any mod and plugin. - You can send more than 1 retrieval craft, if your plan requires it. - The rover must land back on Kerbin, either on land or water. - You need to post screenshots of the following: - Rover safely landing on either the Mun or Minmus. - Retrieval craft on the launchpad. - Retrieval craft landing near the rover and retrieving it. - Retrieval craft's lift off with the rover - Landing the rover on Kerbin Point system: 10 Landing rover safely on a moon 30 Land the retrieval craft next to the rover, under 250 meters. 50 Securing the rover on the retrieval craft. 50 Using 1 retrieval craft. 30 Land the rover on Kerbin 30 Landing near Kerbal Space center, under 500 meters. 40 Having a functional rover at the end of the mission. 40 No parachutes There will be 2 lists if a docking system is released, for missions with and without docking.

Leave the Atmosphere Without Rockets?
The Stinger replied to Hooligan Labs's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Highest I got was 43 Km. When I add more jets to my design it gets out of control at a certain height. -
As a kid I was very intrigued by space flight and the exploration of space. Of course, being a fan of space exploration, I had to watch Star Trek the Next Generation. And then Stargate(The first movie) and Stargate SG-1 were made, and I was an instant fan. Though the real space exploration was a bit on the side line. But a couple of weeks back, when NASA JPL released their 7 Minutes of Terror video for the Curiosity rover, I remembered why I like space exploration. Then I remembered that Notch was making a space game(0x10c), looked around to see how far along the game was. Sadly not in playable form yet. So I searched for "games like 0x10c", and I came across this top 10 list and it had Kerbal Space Program on it. Tried the demo and the next day, when I managed to pry myself from the game, I bough it. I just don't have any words for how much I like the game, and I can't wait till the next update(0.17).
