  1. Sal, you shouldn't have shown me that. Still...thanks mate! I may not block this on the firewall just yet. The benefit of being the dude administering the firewall.
  2. This was just a thought I had this morning at work, where I can't play KSP. All the time I spent playing Lunar Lander on the Atari and later Commodore 64 should have shown a predisposition to wanted to play something like KSP. Does anyone else have fond memories of that game? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunar_Lander_(video_game)
  3. I used only vanilla parts till last night I convinced myself that the Orbital Construction plugin/mod makes sense. So I put a spacedock in orbit around the Mun and have been running part deliveries for the last 3 launches. The goal is to be able to build crafts in space I couldn't build on Kerbin due to the need to launch them through an atmosphere. I'll probably go back to playing just vanilla but it gave me a great excuse to practice orbital rendezvous.
  4. Its an amazing feeling. I think that orbital rendezvous was harder than landing on the moons, myself. It was a lot more precise of a maneuver than simply landing wherever I feel like on a moon. I guess it will help me get better at landing on specific places in the future.
  5. As a guy who works with virtual machines all the time, and has certifications in virtualization, what Randox says is very true. If you hold onto your CD-ROMS for your favorite OS, or the floppy disks, you can create almost any virtual machine you need right now. Virtualization isn't going away, and will let you play KSP for the rest of your life because Squad has made the wise decision to let us do what we want with the game and made it ultra portable.
  6. I think the worst experience I've had with old games was the original Mechwarrior because enemy movement was tied to processor speed. Anyone who grew up from a 286 to a modern computer knows why that is a huge issue. You play it, unaltered, on a modern PC and the enemy blows you up in x30000000 fast forward. Emulators learned to essentially slow down processor speed. If there is a call for a game to be playable 20 years from now, someone will know how to make it happen. I'm not too worried about KSP having issues with that. And I love it immensely. If it goes as far as I hope it does, it will be a forever game for me.
  7. I have a photo album on Facebook and regularly post updates about the things I accomplish. Found out 4 of my friends already play (a couple started playing again after a 6 month break), and got another person to give it a shot. Generally though I'm sure its ignored by most people I know. I like knowing some are finding the game through me, and I enjoy bragging out things I do.
  8. I really can't stress how important orbital rendezvous could be in the future....it also takes a bit of practice to get good at.
  9. To go where no Kerbal has gone before. And die.
  10. I like both, like most everyone, but I experience true joy in actually piloting missions. That feeling when I finally managed to land on the Mun can't be compared to any other video game I remember playing. Then taking what I learned and landing on Minmus on my second try...well....this game is a game I didn't know I wanted all my life. Hats off to the KSP crew for giving me the chance to do something I'll likely never do in real life.
  11. Camstudio works on my copy of windows 7 64 bit. Mine can record indefinitely but it chokes on more than 10 minutes of video. Just errors out and loses it all. I'd do my videos in multiple 10 minute clips and edit them together though.
  12. Camtasia Studio 8 has a free trial, but its only lasts 30 days.
  13. http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/819624-best-screen-recorder-no-fraps/ Camstudio got some votes here, and Camtasia Studio 7. Don't know is Camtasia Studio is free.
  14. They have a free version that still works, I thought. Camstudio I have also used to good effect, its also free and not gimped.
  15. I'd use FRAPS, personally. You will also likely want a video editor and plenty of space.
  16. Tell your friend to give out copies of the demo and pimp his friends on buying the full version. Just saying. Or get new friends. I would have bought KSP with my monthly allowance as a kid.
  17. I had this happen tonight to only half my SRBs, and it sent me into a nasty spin. Half the boosters were connected to the inside rockets and not the decouplers.
  18. Oh! and my intial circular orbit I burn at 10 degrees off of 90 (can't remember which way) which does a lot to make me match minmus's orbit.
  19. I get into a standard circular orbit around Kerbin. Then I go with my gut. If you look at the radius of Minmus's orbit around kerbin, you can use that to roughly guess where minmus has to be for your trip to be roughly equal in time for you to travel and for minmus to meet you. There is math for this, but I for one don't know what it is. I just guess by best judgement. Then its just burn till you get captured by minmus's sphere of influence (which is quite a bit smaller than the Mun's). Do your retrograde burn to complete your circular orbit around Minmus. Pick a good time and do a landing burn so you land in a lake. I promise you won't regret it, you probably don't want to land on a hill. I did my first time and hopping out tipped my ship over. Jeb is still stuck out there. Then you just have to get back. I've done 4 trips so far off my guessing. The first time I missed and it took me 300 days to find a fix to get to minmus. The rest have made orbit on my first try.
  20. I found KSP last week through reading the Bungie Mailsack responses. They talked about playing KSP and I looked it up. I liked the video, downloaded the demo. Liked the demo, bought the game. Now I can't stop playing!! Or, since I'm at work....stop thinking about playing it!!
  21. I tried them when I was having earlier problems. I will try them again, and other things, until I have this solid. Thanks!
  22. It turns out that fuel lines are apparently directional. I put them on the wrong direction at first and my third stage wound up not having fuel. Whoops. I reversed them and now my third stage is completely topped off when separation happens. Once I got that fixed I do indeed have much more fuel once I get to orbit. In fact I almost have an entire tank of the huge fuel tanks left to boost into an orbit, and maybe into a transfer. This extends the range of my craft immensely. My only problem now is to counteract a spin I'm getting until I hit my third stage. This implies, to me, that my fuel lines aren't symmetrical and are adding spin to my in atmosphere flight. 23. Y'all are scaring me a bit with this "they're clones! Its ok!" talk.... Its still Jeb #2340 slowly suffocating on the Mun! He's got to have feelings! If those little green men feel, which assuming from their terrified faces when an entire rocket is blowing up beneath them they must, then I still have to feel bad! This community is awesome. I post my current favorite vehicle and I get taught some things I had no idea how they worked!
  24. The tiniest body in my Kerbol system is currently Jeb from an in space accident. He's currently orbiting Kerbol like everything else all on his lonesome. Aside from that I totally agree that latin is the most likely source.
  25. Thanks for the info! I really didn't get how the fuel lines distributed fuel so i will definitely give them a go on Oscar IV. Thanks for the advice. If I improve it a ton I'll do a repost of the improved craft.
