  1. Many have brought up the concept of inflatable modules for space stations and ground bases. I love this idea because it is currently being developed as an option for longer term Lunar and Mars missions. I saw horizontal ones on a TV show last night that have a hard shell and they push out and the middle of the module is made of a strong, airtight fiber section. Karolus pointed out that space station modules would be useful for both applications and the ground ones would just need legs. What if it was one part for both applications, with legs that extended like landing gear? you could keep them retracted on a space station and extend them on the planetary or moon surface for a base. Different action groups for inflating the module and extending the landing gear?
  2. Things I'd like to see: Black tshirt with the kerbal logo small over the heart. A polo shirt, the same with a KSP logo over the heart. Kerbal Plushie...though I'd have to protect it from my cats. Both shirts would make it into my regular line up for work and play. I don't have much cause for white shirts anymore, they just don't tend to make it into my everyday wear clothes.
  3. "Adding K to every word" was either Novasilisko being funny or something designed to piss Nova off. Either way, thumbs up!
  4. I still using the store to update. To get a completely fresh steam install I think you have to uninstall through Steam, delete folders manually, and reinstall through steam. This update had some major changes to the folder hierarchy and some people have reported a fresh install helping.
  5. Quickly I change pod Within the assembly Ultimate success (10 word requirement, trying to be creative)
  6. I did a fresh install like always, completely vanilla for my first few days. Only mod I use anyway is Engineer, so it doesn't break my ships if I lose it. No issues at all. My load time is still about a minute but the whole game runs faster. I can delete my command pod without starting a new ship. LOVE!! I have inline probe cores with SAS!! LOVE!! I have flags that can mark locations and haven't blown up yet! LOVEEEEE!!! a lot of the issues people have run into is from merging KSP folders and leaving in mods. Many of these issues are mod conflicts. Regardless, any issues should be taken to the support folder where they can help others instead of creating post after post complaining about the bugs.
  7. Wow....just...wow. I'm allergic to hyperbole. I agree with you that people should report bugs. They can be mad, I guess, about bugs as well. However the constructive way to deal with it is to post real bug reports on the proper forum. Everyone making the point of "this is an alpha" is completely right. The test team isn't going to catch all the bugs. So the constructive thing to do is not to post a complaint thread on the general forum. its to post bug posts over in the development section. That is how these things get resolved and fixed. If they post a complaint thread, these kinds of responses should be expected. Never go forum trekking without flame retardent underwear. edit: As Capt. Joesph points out, if there is already a thread on it in the bug forum, don't post a new one. Add on to the one that already exists.
  8. They test throughout the whole cycle of making a new update, but the serious testing starts once they say "no more features, we're testing now." That occured last week. A bigger team = more people. Bigger possibility of a leak of a test release. From what I've seen Squad is very picky about who goes on the testing team.
  9. Last I checked, which is daily, .20 went into official prerelease testing last week. The testing team is small, only a handful of people. They will miss bugs with a small team and a short timeframe. There will likely be .20.1 (and maybe more) releases as more bugs are brought to their attention. I'm just voicing my opinion too, but this is a big reason I stuck with the store instead of Steam. I always start off a new release with a vanilla install, copying over my save if it is compatible. It has seemed, to me, that a lot of the bugs are from interactions with mods people still have shuffling about in their folders. I would advise users against doing a folder merge on a new release, especially a release like .20 where the folder structure got rearranged.
  10. I've been playing about a year now, and I have to say this about the endless Mechjeb threads. It seems to me the only reason to even ask this question is for validation of your decision. Using mechjeb, or not, is a personal decision. Its no one's business whether someone uses it. I for one hope there will be fewer and fewer of these threads because they are incredibly pointless. The same arguments are used in every thread. 1. Real men fly their own rockets 2. Real astronaughts have autopilots. 3. Argument C 4. People who use mechjeb are nazis. 5. People who don't want me using mehjeb are nazis. And thus its like every other forum thread on the internet. Also, I'm not sure it is a truly "wry observation" if you declare it yourself...
  11. If you do watch a video again pay close attention to the navball. You can learn most of docking from staring at that little ball. The navball indicators will tell you 95% of what you need to know to dock. Seeing how translation affects the lineup of your prograde and target indicators was huge to finally being able to dock. I do think that the docking cam mod would be a neat addition to the stock game, they gave us the tools to get the job done conceptually on the navball.
  12. Back before the forum thing happened, it was stickied so link away. I plan on revising it when I get a break from work. The first mission to orbit the Mun uses a probe core and I have found beginners have issues steering them. I wanted to expose them to unmanned vs. manned but I'm rethinking that. Or maybe just an alternate ship... Oh and I also learned a lot from Scott Manley. Thumbs up, Scott!. ...me and the fiancee are headed up to England and Scotland for our honeymoon next year. She wants to hunt down your family and kill them for teaching me to play this game. I'll keep her in line.
  13. I lost mine, reposted, but I think you probably have all the content I had contained in other guides and probably better written. If its bad please don't include it. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/24915-Beginner-s-Guide
  14. You have opened a big hole there. I have successfully returned, thus far, from Duna's surface. As far as intent goes: I landed a Kerbal on Laythe and was not fully prepared, fuelwise, for the labor of gaining orbit and returning. If I had not of landed on Laythe, I could have orbited Jool and returned. Landings and takeoffs can take a lot of DV.
  15. I'm sorry for not thinking we should be prodding any aspect of the subject any more this afternoon. Just my 2 cents. Wait for an official announcement. Be patient. Be a good community, not one that drives your developers crazy.
  16. Just as a side note, with the calculator you will know angles. Then you can fast forward to a launch window while sitting on the pad.
  17. All my favorite developers use the "Its done when its done" policy: Squad Bungie Blizzard (used to be worth the wait) I prefer it over the EA method "push it out by an arbitrary deadline and fix all the bugs in a day 0 update." In squad's release model its really just a better policy to make sure the updates have the right amount of content and don't break horribly through testing.
  18. ipconfig /flushdns If you just wait it will clear once it reaches the staleness age and DNS deletes it automagically.
  19. You also might check if you have an integrated video chipset and an Nvidia card in the same PC. With the nvidia software you can elect whether a program runs on the nvidia card or the integrated graphics. KSP can default to integrated and was causing my game to blue screen. If you right click and see the option "run with graphics processor" option, make sure its using your nicer nvidia card. If it uses Integrated it may be the cause of the blue screens.
  20. It was mentioned in on XKCD's comic, and I installed the demo. Played 15 minutes. Bought a copy of the game. See Brenok's link to the comic. It was mouseover text.
  21. Howdy! The old post got eaten. I wanted to make sure it was available to those who want it. The PDF guide: https://www.dropbox.com/s/g0bn6xeckjju1m8/kerbal%20guide%209%20Dec.pdf The ship files: https://www.dropbox.com/s/9hskfom2aopvz6j/ships.zip The Doc file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ekgwqi7mhumtzix/kerbal%20guide%209Dec.doc Youtube Video of Shipbuilding Mission: I have grand plans to do videos of the other missions soon. If you have any questions at all, feel free to ask away!
  22. Community managers and forum mods are unpaid volunteers, as are the secret squirrel test staff. Only the actually developers are paid members of Squad. Or so I had been told at the time.
  23. Playing: KSP, FIFA 13 (Chelsea loaned me to Wycombe to build experience....!!! ) Play Occasionally: Minecraft, Bloodbowl Just Beat: Sleeping Dogs Waiting for: Forza Horizon, Halo 4
  24. I'd look to myself first: 5 million: Establish a 100 acre farm for barley. I'd hire a few people to grow it, harvest it, and store it. I'd grow hops by the house, establish a clean room to maintain a yeast supply (and possibly hire a person or two to maintain the yeast as well...I want a lot of strains and that takes man hours). Then I'd start an small scale brewery. I imagine like Wychwood Brewery in the UK. Apply for the necessary licenses every year to be able to distribute it to my friends who run bars and restaurants and other people who want it. The goal is to brew beer pretty much daily instead of my current day job. 10 million: Buy a nifty car. I'm thinking an Aston Martin DB9 or something along those lines. Then use the rest to set up an investment account to sustain my lifestyle in complement to the brewery. 5 million to Panora PETS, a pet shelter I work for currently and I'd like to see be able to do all that they need to do. A trust that pays them out a reasonable operating sum. The rest? I'd split it down the middle. One half of the bulk: Split it with half going to NASA, and half going to the front runners in commercial space exploration. If my investment got me some kind of stake in the company I wouldn't shy away from it, but all I really want is a ride to the moon if I get the chance. I would want to set them up also in trusts to pay out over the course of a decade or so with the intent of seeing how well the money is utilized. The last half of the bulk: Set up a grant program to give roughly 2000 $100,000 grants a year to charities or scientific research until the money is gone. It will be competitive and I will judge the entries based upon their merit and their effectiveness with and winnings the prior year.
