  1. Yes that type of paint already exist. I saw a demonstration of it 5 or 10 years ago. It only developed small amounts of power though. I worry about larger more useable levels of power and then doing it as a field application on surfaces not originally designed for power production.
  2. There are a lot of issues with putting solar panels on roofs, but I don't think you will see the industry stop using roofs for a very long time if ever. Even if you create a new panel that is two or three times more efficient, where are you going to put it. If you place it on the walls, the angles are very steep relative to the sun, so you will get only a small faction of the power compared to the roof and you'll have a lot more problems with shading. If you make a drive way out of it then you can't park your car there without blocking the light. I also wonder about electrical fire hazards of painting this onto the walls of a house. Solar panels are engineered, tested and standardized pretty well before going to market. Every house is a little different. How will one house handle having hundreds of watts being generated on it's irregular surfaces compared to another house? It's a nice technology development, but I don't think it will be revolutionary. Large commercial solar farms where they have plenty of land, but need to save on cost could use this though. Edit: I think that company may have gone out of business, but I'm not sure? From what I remember they also couldn't deliver nearly as much power as they claimed.
  3. Well Point-to-Point Suborbital Flight at least makes more sense than skipping across the upper atmosphere with some of those hypersonic craft proposed for the general public. Going from micro gravity to one plus G every 5 to 15 minutes as it skips is too much for the untrained public. You'll need mandatory airsickness bags Velcroed to everyone's face. Ultimately we need to find cheaper and less polluting ways of mass space flight. I can't imagine how much pollution would be generated to lift even a million people into space let alone the number of passengers you see on international flight. Unless some truly unconventional technology comes along, commercial flights for the general public I think will be just short joy rides.

  5. I noticed when I tried to tweak the scale of the cargo bays the sizes are 1.25m, 1.875m and 3.75m. There doesn't seem to be any 2.5m size. I think there may have been some other parts too. Maybe the telescope lid and others?
  6. Well they dug up a P-38 that had been been buried and partly squashed under a glacier for 50 years and got it flying again, so I'm sure they could fix that plane. It's just how much time and money you want to put into it.
  7. I notice a small issue with Kerbnik. It only has 50 units of electricity in it instead of 250. The part file even states it has 250 units, but something seems to be changing it when you select it in the VAB.

  10. If I upgrade from 0.51a to 0.0.52a in the middle of a career mode game will it reset all the contracts? For example, I finished exploring the Mun, so will that Mun contract have to be completed again before getting the Duna contract?
  11. You could build mass drivers to shoot some of the carbon off world. But if you can get it to solid form, why not just bury it. Maybe mine the Kuiper belt for water and pH base minerals that can neutralize acids and build mini comets out of this material? Then let millions of these mini comets aerobrake through the atmosphere and melt without hitting the surface over hundreds of years.
  12. I came across these two stories about Stanford University research into battery technology. I've always had a particular interest in battery tech sense I think it limits a lot of other fields of development. Things like this could make electric cars or even small electric planes practical. One article I came across also suggested it could impact grid-scale energy storage.   13. I think the most likely answer is the least exciting. They are probably just testing materials and flight hardware for future space craft. Someday the Air Force will have practical aerospace planes, but to get there they will have to fly and test research aircraft like the X-37. They are learning what works and what doesn't with each flight. There is probably little that the X-37 can do now that a dedicated satellite can do better and lighter. As the technology improves you could see similar vehicles being used in specialized missions that need a rapid and changing response. Right now it's just a learning tool.

  15. Love the new water tanks. They could even double as a science module, if you could model fish or floating hamsters in them (Without water of course) .
  16. Are any of the developing CCDEV vehicles close to being man rated? Or I should say started the process?
  17. I wonder if something like the N-3 could be a good "science and research" rocket. Two and a half tons is still a lot of cubeSats and small science experiments.

  21. Well it's scheduled for launch around 2015 which will probably fall in the year of the sheep....... 內存 Nèicún (Ram)? But apparently 內存 Nèicún should avoid the color gold, so no gold mylar covering on spacecraft.
