Just come over and say: "I want to work here!" Not quite. I work at a (fairly) large model train layout that is open for public. This is part of it: Sorry, Christmas puked all over it.

Live video of barge landing!! Finally! GG WP

Wouldn't my perfect response be a cheek pinch? Just a thought, but if you assume the guy doesn't speak English, why do you assume it can read Arabic numerals? Fun short story though. I like it.
-
Wait, are you saying we're not supposed to have games on our work computers? jk, I actually don't have any installed, but then again, I do get paid to play with model trains at work, so it's not all that bad.

Full disclosure, I'm not a programmer. I do, however do some programming for my work related suff. The very first program I wrote that had an intended use, other than being purely academic, was written in C#, about eight years ago. The little thing is still used today at my work. It's a tiny, but marvelous time saver program that does some brute force combinatorial calculations. Incidently, it is also the last program I wrote in C#. Nowdays, all my programming is in C/C++ since it all ends up in embeded microcontrollers. Point being, the choice of language depends on intended use.

Isn't the project canceled? https://gizmodo.com/elon-musks-boring-company-cancels-los-angeles-tunnel-fo-1830707724

So they could hypothetically meet in about a year.

X band detected.

Now the work begins.

I actually did it. Found a seven segment display array and a matrix LCD I bough couple of years ago I intended to use for a physical readout for KSP. I might get back to that project one day.

I have a simple system that does the deciding for me: It gets chucked if: - I expect not to use it use again - I haven't used it for more than 2 years The problem I have is deciding to actually clean up the clutter. I guess I should do something about my mess as well. Tomorrow, I promise.

At eevblog forums there is a thread about a lifter_ http://www.eevblog.com/forum/dodgy-technology/ionic-lifters-has-anyone-else-around-here-build-one/ tldr, 297W to lift 250g
-
Ok, I accept that, but that would put the mining mission on a very tight schedule in the first place. Not to mention the need to play chicken with dropping Pe of the entirety of the industrial equipment deep into the Suns gravity well, only to pull out at the last moment (something that is even harder to do).
-
That dv budget could get you anywhere. Why crash into the Sun? I consider anything blow 6 to be bad, and anything below 5 to be unwatchable.

The tech in question is nothing new. In fact it's almost 100 years old. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ionocraft I suppose it was just the matter of combining modern battery tech with principles in use for F1D class of model airplanes (things that can fly for more than half an hour using less energy than those ugly LEDs from OP use in that 12 second glide).
-
Guys at MIT claim to have made a solid state airplane, meaning powered flight with no moving parts. http://news.mit.edu/2018/first-ionic-wind-plane-no-moving-parts-1121 It uses high voltage to ionize air and accelerate it backwards to produce thrust. We've talked here several times about electric airplanes and how impractical they are, but I see this as futile on a whole other level. All the problems with conventional propellers or ducted fans powered by electric motors and batteries apply, only to be further complicated by abysmal efficiency of this approach. The only advantage this thing has is lower noise, but that at what cost?

But what about orbital inclination? edit: A quick googling found this: https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org/0c8c/a8b1fe0eb533c0f12e45f3d689235fbb4957.pdf

That's a flaw with measurement method, not the prototype itself.
-
Oh, I thought the switch was done. I'll be back in a year.
-
Funny thing is, I tried googling for a proper and a decent sounding term to ask about the mass, but just couldn't find anything. I figured if somebody gives me an accurate enough answer in N, I can do the math. So to rephrase, what is the mass of the old prototype? (You see! It doesn"t sound nice at all. It's cluncky.)
-
So, the (no longer) prototype is no longer priceless, only expensive for sentimental reasons. Speaking of which, (and probably a question for "Shower thoughts" thread) how much does it weigh?

Lungs don't have many pain receptor.
-
I don't mind those in principle, it's just that I get too many articles from Express about the imminent "END of the WORLD because an ASTEROID the size of a CAR will pass LESS than 10 LUNAR distances from Earth."

It's not a computer part website. They sell almost everything.
