  1. I want one very simple thing, cylindrical cargo bays. 1.25m and 2.5m. Exactly like the ones for planes, but for vertical rockets. They'd be of varying thickness, with the thinnest one being the size of a reaction wheel part. Instead of sticking science tools and non-inline RCS tanks to the sides of my ship, give me somewhere to put them inside. I'm thinking like the service modules of, you know, real ships.

  2. If life support gets added, it need to be one of the first things you unlock. Just because you can unlock the entire tree by biome jumping, doesn't mean everyone wants to. Personally, I'd much rather head to Duna than hop around the Mun for science.

Life support tech should progress like any other. Each capsule has a certain amount of the resource (snacks). That's enough for that crew to go a few days in orbit. Then you unlock extra containers you can add to the ship to extend that. Make it so that it's not unreasonable to be able to pack enough for a Duna mission and return. Then near the end of the tree you unlock the ability to regenerate snacks (I'm imagining something the size of a hitchhiker container that has like a little farm inside), that would allow you to set up a permanent base.

This game has a fairly natural progression, and just because some people wanna jump the gun doesn't mean the tech tree should cater to that. I could say I wanna send a probe to Eeloo out of the gate, doesn't mean they need to give us RTGs right away.

  3. Ok, Snacks as an expendable resource that you have to bring with you, I could totally go for.

That seems the simplest way. Just one single resource to worry about. Different capsules have different amounts, and extra tanks can be added. There could also be a part that would generate snacks, maybe something the size of the Mobile Processing Lab that's like a farm.

  4. It feels wrong that I can look at Eeloo in full detail without ever having so much as sent a probe to it. Telescopes would get you only so much resolution (similar to what we have of Pluto while we wait for New Horizons to arrive), and probe cameras would increase that. The cameras could be similar to ScanSat, as you orbit above the terrain, it would be cleared up, with the resolution increasing by distance.

This would actually make me kinda wish I was coming into the game fresh. Imagine not know what planets are even out there, or what they're like. You get the telescope and discover Eeloo, but have only a vague idea how big it is, and you have no idea if it has an atmosphere or not. So you gotta send a probe first to find out.

This would a great addition to make when they get around to adding new planets, say GP2 and its moons. Then they don't realease any images of the new stuff, and wait for the community to discover it themselves (probably by just going into sandbox)

  5. I know an element of this was at one point talking about as a planned feature, but I haven't heard anything about it in a long time.

What if when you start a new career mode, very little is known about the system. You enter map view, and you can see the side of Mun facing Kerbin, but the side opposite is a complete blur. Duna and Eve are very low resolution, and Eeloo the moons of Jool aren't even there at all. You access the info for these bodies, and much of the information (mass, gravity, atmosphere) is either unknown or an approximation.

In order to unlock this information, you have to do science. There could be a new building at KSC, a telescope, that as you upgrade gives clearer pictures of distant bodies. Orbital telescopes could be constructed that would further this. You could also attach cameras to probes and send them out to the body. Info about the atmosphere of Eve could only be obtained after sending the barometer there and using it, gravity by doing a gravity scan, etc. Imagine being able to click the info box on a body and watch as that information is filled in, as a record of what you've accomplished. It would be a reason to keep doing science after you've unlocked the tech tree, and to make science actually feel like science, instead of just some points you use to get tech.

    Thoughts?

  6. I maintain a slim slice of hope flavoured cake that we will get a .91 to chew on before the final release that KSP will be judged on.

    !

We're not. We're just definitely not. People need to accept that fact. 1.0 is being tested right now, by a team of more than 100 people. That's all the testing it needs. It's being done by people who actually know how to test and report bugs. The stuff they get from people after they release it to the public is largely worthless (game suggestions submitted as bug reports, duplicates, it's probably more work to sift through it than it's worth). The point of the regular releases was never so we could test the game, we were never testers. We're just customers.

  7. Good idea: Skilled pilots would have finer control of their crafts (divider) whereas unskilled pilots would constantly over-input on the controls (multiplier).

This is not a good idea. The player is the one who inputs the controls, the Kerbal having a different level should not override that. I would hate it if i'm flying a craft perfectly, staying right on my marker, and the ship suddenly jerks around when I didn't do anything. This is why they made pilot skills into just Smart SAS instead of anything like this. This would just be like random errors.

  8. It's possible to start a thread without people suggesting "use that mod, use that..."

Mod is not always a solution.

That's a huge pet peeve of mine too. There's a mod for everything, we all know that, there's no point bringing it up when discussing issues or suggestions for the stock game.

  9. Does anybody remember the days before docking was implemented? I wanna say .17 or .18 maybe. Before that, we had mods for docking, but would any of you honestly prefer to go back to that? Even if you like some of the extra features on the docking mods, those are much better being added to the stock docking. I'm sure we're all glad they rewrote the code to allow ships to merge into one, something that docking mods couldn't really do.

I'll take a stock version of something over a mod any day. A mod can always modify the stock version if you prefer it a slightly different way, but if a feature is really essential, I want it done stock.

  10. Squad should give themselves a pat in the back for being nice enough to tolerate all of your rants, flamewars and protests for a simple prank.

Get over it, guys. You should be grateful for Squad's tolerance. We're only lucky that KSP isn't run by an aggressive company which barely cares about it's community, because now that's considered common.

Yeah, this. Seriously, you'd think some people here were, like, major shareholders in the company or something from the way they insist that they know the correct way Squad should conduct their business.

  11. Matter of fact, it should also include all the features that were promised, AND be balanced and playable.

Well it'll definitely have all the features they promised. Which is, you know, none. Because they've always, always said their plans are subject to change and they reason they're so sparse with info about upcoming releases is that people like you take it as a promise and freak out if their plans change, like they owe you something.

The only thing they really need to worry about is bug fixes, which I'm sure they'll take care of. They have a dedicated testing team for that (two, actually).

  12. I think the title of this thread should change "complaining" to "nitpicking". Complaining sounds too serious, but like the thing in the OP about mk3 parts falling apart, that's more of a nitpick. Like "hey, great game, but this thing kinda bugs me!"

Anyways, most of my nitpicks are scheduled to be fixed in 1.0, like the flimsy wings. Very excited for bigger, sturdier wings.

  13. @HarvesteR : Well, it is fine and dandy to have a tech tree editor, even better if you have it ingame as a tool, but first, back to basics. Please , please , fix the tech tree ;) There surely are better solutions to some of the part spamming issues than putting cubic struts needing a investment of 5000 science and god knows how much cumulative funds

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what he's talking about. The purpose of the tech tree editor is to allow testers to mess around with the progression to find what makes the most sense and what works best. The result of this should be a better tech tree.

  14. I don't care at all what reddit gets, or when they get it, as long as it makes its way here. If Reddit gets something first, and then its immediately reposted here, even by a forum member, that's fine. I just want to know that I can get any news I need right here without having to go a bunch of other places.

Someone should just have a thread that's continually updated with news posted elsewhere.

  15. Um...

If you release right now you're going to get torn apart over the bugs and performance issues...

You spent 4 years in alpha, maybe you should respect that investment and make correct use of the beta period.

Alpha and Beta are not terms that have ever really applied to KSP. We're not the QA testers of this game, that would be, well, the QA team, and Experimentals. Those are the guys whose job it is to make sure any release is free of bugs. In the past, certain issues have gotten past them, not because they were missed, but because Squad just wasn't ready to fix them yet. That's what they're doing here. They've got a list of all the major issues, and they'll fix them before they release 1.0. And new issues will come up with the new features, and they'll be caught and fixed too. If Squad wants to make sure this release is free of major bugs, they'll do that using their QA team, just like any game studio does for any game. And any minor issues can still be fixed in a -.-.1 patch.

  16. I think that's my biggest concern with Squad moving straight from 0.90 to 1.0. There really needs to be a 0.95 beta release with all of the new content folded in followed by 1-2 months of bug fixes and feature polishing / balancing prior to doing a 1.0 release.

Expecting everything to magically be perfect without doing another beta test of new features is hubris.

If they stick with "1.0 or bust" then it's going to go splat and the game press is going to beat them up for it mercilessly.

They could just, you know, find all the bugs in QA and Experimentals, which is the point of those two teams. Everyone is acting like this'll be treated like every other release. When .24 or .25 came out, they tried to make them as stable as possible, but they had the "Early Release" thing to excuse anything that might slip through. They won't have that this time, so if Squad makes the decision to ensure this release is as flawless as possible, that's what they'll do. They may take some extra time with this one, or they may increase the size of the Experimentals team (if they haven't already), but all the necessary testing can be done by the testing teams. It's how most games work, ya know.

  17. My only issue with going straight to 1.0 is that it means it's going to take a really, really long time to get any of this new stuff. I would've hoped we'd see a few updates here and there, each adding new things little by little, instead of having to wait months and months and get it all at once. But still, I'm really excited for this game to finally feel like a complete package, and I think if Squad does take their time with it, it'll be a beautiful thing.

  18. I came here looking to post the same thing. And it's not so much the size of wings, as the complexity of keeping those large wings made of tiny pieces from falling apart. I made a jumbo jet (replica of one of the ones shown when the first unveiled the Mk3 parts) and the wings just flopped all over the place and cracks opened between the pieces. I ended up having to strut all the individual pieces together.

There really needs to be a way to make attached wing pieces mold into a single part. It's like having a wing made of Legos.
