0.18 was in experimental phase for 2 or 3 weeks, why is everyone so happy?

The Simple Heavy Lifting challenge.
Shuttle replied to Ryu Gemini's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I don't understand how part count and payload is calculated. My rocket consists of 160 parts, payload is another 10 parts and 8 launch clamps. When I reach a stable 100*100 orbit, my whole vehicle is ~200 tons - 161 tons is payload that is separated and 39 tons is empty fuel tanks of the second stage. So, is my rocket 161 tons/180 parts or 200 tons/160 parts or...? -
I spend 99% of time in VAB trying to build as good launch vehicle as possible. I don't like interplanetary flights at all.

Ship Request: stock space shuttle

How heavy is the satellite? Is buran-style shuttle ok? -
Yes, one guy created a NASA-style shuttle. And I created Buran-style shuttle without any additional engines/RCS for stabilization http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/stock-space-shuttle/

Fortunately, we didn't loose RD-171 so we at least have a powerful engine. There were many Energia modifications planned such as Vulcan that could put 200 tons into orbit: And Energia-M (30-60 tons to orbit):

Hello! I saw a flight plan made by xchoo in this thread: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/16349-Stock-0-16-NASA-Space-Shuttle-Buran-hybrid Here is direct link to the picture: http://i.imgur.com/E83sI.jpg Does anyone know how to make such kind of images easily? Evident answer is Photoshop but I am very bad at it so tips, icon packs, background images and any other possible kind of help are very welcome It is a little bit off-topic but it seems to me this picture can be used for in-game flight planner. Imagine: you left-click on the trajectory and select an action - turn on ASAS, decouple boosters, set thrust to 70%, etc. Just like with maneuver nodes.

I've experienced the same bug (?) myself but it was not so critical: in my case some mansails shut down ~10 seconds before the others. One of my vessels flipped over shortly after lift off but that was only because I put fuel lines on one side of the rocket and forgot to put them on the opposite side.

I personally would like to see engine construction implemented into the game. It seems to me that adding this feature will make the game much more interesting. A am also waiting for a better physical model (aerodynamics, maybe vibration, deformation) and optimization.

I tried to build a shuttle with this plane but I gave up. The only thing I could do was to attach it on top of one of my launch vehicles and put it into orbit. I enjoyed this flight because it looked a lot like cancelled Chelomey's shuttle launched with Proton

Wow, it looks like a submarine! I'll try to put it into orbit with my launcher

My best rocket consists of 200 parts and can lift 150 tons into orbit Challenge accepted
-
What's the part count?
-
I don't recommend reading anyone else's tips because it will spoil all the pleasure of building a powerful rocket yourself Well, it is a powerful vehicle but the part count seems to be a little high to me (651 parts), and I also have only ~5-10 fps during lift off on GTX460 i5 2500

One guy managed to build a shuttle without engines on the central fuel tank but the thread with craft file, description, pics was deleted. However, I downloaded a craft file a couple of months ago, here are some pics: http://i.imgur.com/2rWcmsM.png http://i.imgur.com/YCBGIyR.png

A few screenies of the biggest ship I've managed to get into orbit.
Shuttle replied to SasquatchM's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Did you put it into orbit with one launch? -
Yes, it allows to balance the shuttle after boosters separation.
-
MRab2, yes, in both of my shuttles fuel is fed from the main tank to shuttle even after boosters are separated.

I created a thread about how to build a shuttle with tips, crafts and screenshots about half a year ago but it is gone. The only thing I have left is screenshots and craft file: I built two vanilla shuttles that can achieve 100*100 km orbit and go back easily. Your shuttle flips because booster engines and shuttle engines are not in the center of mass => they create rotating moment. When shuttle is launched, those rotating moments are compensated but when the boosters are dropped, the rotating moment from the shuttle's engines is no longer compensated => it flips over. Could you, please, provide a screenshot of your shuttle from different angle? I don't understand if there are any engines on the central fuel tank.
