Seeing Kasuha's newest wheel, I began to worry that my 40 km/s record may not stand. I realized something he did right: using wheels larger in diameter than mine. Combining that knowledge with knowledge obtained from previous experiments, I made something new: The top speed it achieved without breaking: and then it tipped onto its right wheel: and that wheel started to disintegrate: And then it takes a sudden turn to the left: This is the highest speed I saw it going at total, and it was technically still rolling, albeit about to stop rolling and lose all structure. The end of the "death turn" and the end of the rolling: and the debris field: So, that puts the record speed at either 48 or 53 m/s, depending on whether the point where destruction began or the point where rolling stopped is counted as the maximum speed. I may have just solidified my lead for a little while
-
Now I am starting to worry that it might not be me passing the 50 m/s mark sometime in the future
-
Granted, but you realize you can only control it backwards after going back to see the dinosaurs killed by a meteor I wish that the person who grants the wish of the person who grants the wish of the person who grants my wish doesn't have their wish horribly corrupted

Are you allowed to exceed the 5 year time limit if all your spacecraft are orbited before it? For example, I launch as many colony spacecraft as I can in 5 years, so when the 5 year mark hits I stop the launches and send them to their destinations. They arrive after the 5 year mark, maybe even 6 or 7 years instead, but would have all gotten there safely in the event of a Kerbin destroying asteroid. Personally, I would recommend either that all spacecraft have to be orbited either beyond a certain altitude (to avoid the debris from the collision) or out of the Kerbin Soi entirely (to avoid the incoming planet), but can still reach their destinations after the 5 year marker before your final score is given.

Build a deliberately weak connecter that breaks with PHYSICS??? Sounds like somebody forgot about decouplers.
-
I looked at my craft and realized how stupid I was. I mean, using liquid engines for power? How kerbal is that even? Not enough. So I made a couple modifications and got this: which wound up,surprisingly, stopping intact. And thus the 40 m/s mark has been surpassed
-
Even though I think my previous wheel technically passed the 30 m/s mark, since the only breaking was to the engines and it sustained the 30 m/s speed without breaking after it had gotten there, but since you are counting it as 28 m/s... I only had to try again... Tried a trike, but it sucked and couldn't get to 10 m/s without breaking... then I built a new giant wheel which is less of a lag monster. I found it to be pretty sturdy, though tests revealed it does lose a single aerospike at above 30 m/s...except for its first test run, which the following photo is from: It hit 39 m/s without a single piece flying off, though I did not get a picture of it stopped afterwards, and I really should've. I thought it would do a little better on other tests, but it would just lose an engine and not reach the speed it did on its first run. It's been fun building giant wheels, I don't know why I had stopped at my ferris wheel before.
-
well, technically my engines broke at that point, not my wheel. It began to lose the jet engines at around 28 m/s, but stopped losing them and sustained a speed of 30.0 to 31.8 m/s for.... maybe a minute, maybe 45 seconds, but for a long time before I made the conscious decision to slow it down. No parts were lost after it reached the top speed shown, and that top speed was reached long after parts had disconnected (and would be able to get back to that point from a halt with no extra damage done). It was originally intended to be for a bike, but I realized it had more potential in this form, not to mention lag. I may try working on a rocket trike today to beat my own speed

Well, I saw this challenge, knew I had built a Ferris wheel already (no pictures exist online yet), and decided to take it on. After a bunch of testing, I built this: This thing is powered by a combination of 12 jet engines (a number which decreases as it is accelerating, as you will see in the next screenshot) and reaction wheels. Engines starting to fly off: The top speed it reached: and the damage done to it on the speed record attempt after it had stopped: So yes, it isn't pretty and causes some pretty bad lag, but it beat the record by 6 m/s despite losing some jet engines. I actually recorded the speed to be 31.8 m/s, but it was only for brief instances and can only show proof for 31.7 m/s. Thanks for the challenge

The Versatility Marathon Challenge

Making sure I had that... I do this all the time whenever I have to do a task BTW, to make sure I don't do anything questionable -

The issue is Keburan needs RCS assistance to land, she flies like a brick through the upper atmosphere and is nose heavy. I haven't landed her on the runway yet, but I have landed her close enough to use her huge RCS load to travel 10km to KSC and park on the runway, if that counts -

Double check: You do not need to bring a lander up with the core module, it is an attachment -

Dangit, I land there more than I doat the actual KSC, will have to get landing practice I may have to get Kettysburg running soon so I can actually glide some distance, which Keburan simply has issues doing. At least Keburan is always recoverable -

I assume "no reverting" means no quick saving... also, what about the island runway? -
The Versatility Marathon Challenge
Noname117 replied to 700NitroXpress's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Ah,so if I get a core craft into orbit quickly I can compete in mission one still Now I just have to prove my shuttle can lift 15 tons into orbit to rack up those points EDIT: I saw the no reverting flight post, does that negate quick-saving or just starting over the entire launch or mission? -

I must ask if we were to build a core craft right now, would mission 2 (for when it comes out) count for points or is it too late to join in this challenge and still be scored? -
Keburan Program (stock space shuttle)
Noname117 replied to Noname117's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
The thing is it's sort of a mix between the two threads; it is showing off the shuttle while saying how the program itself is going. And thanks for the imgur, the automatic resize will work better than taking the screenshots off of steam, saving them, moving them to a machine with photoshop, resizing them, then moving them back to this machine and finally to imgur -
Keburan Program (stock space shuttle)
Noname117 replied to Noname117's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
I have several day pictures, just takes forever to get them ready (I have to transfer to a second computer with photoshop images from steam just to size them down properly). Also, where else would I post an article about a space shuttle-like program on here? I do plan on posting the .craft files, just as soon as I get the Keburan and the Ktechka into actual service and out of testing (which should be soon, just 4 more orbital flights should be enough). The night photo, however, works great as a teaser, which was what I was using it for. now if you'll excuse me, I have to get the topic page typed up. -
Guess it is time for my first real forum topic The Keburan Program Ktechka on her second orbital flight. So, the Keburan program is a stock space shuttle program that is not yet completed. It is planned to have 4 orbiters capable of carrying small satelleties up to medium sized space station parts into orbit, possibly extra fuel too. The two shuttles currently in service (Keburan and Ktechka) are capable of RCS-assisted gliding landings and parachute landings in case you come down over water. Manning the shuttles is entirely optional, and as of yet neither has been tested with kerbals on board. They are quite heavy for space shuttles (at least compared to what my friend made) and wind up landing quite heavily. However, takeoff and orbital characteristics are generally good. A total of 4 orbiters are planned by the end of the project. History of the program: The Program started after one of my friends had built 4 working space shuttle designs. I started to get jealous and began work on a space shuttle design: Picture coming shortly, be patient This, of course, was hideous and wouldn't carry much anways, plus I was having issues with what the next stage would be. That's when work on the Keburan design began: Picture coming shortly, be patient Which led into landing testing, both conventionally and with parachutes. Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Which was soon followed by launch system testing after it was determined the crew would likely survive both kinds of landings. Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient And then its first sub-orbital space-hop occurred: Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient And a second sub-orbital hop which resulted in a successful landing Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Another launch, being equipped with more fuel, put her into orbit finally (she had to complete the last part of the burn on RCS) Picture coming shortly, be patient Which was decapitated on landing Picture coming shortly, be patient More landing tests were now done after her landing gear was moved forward. The decapitation problem was solved. Picture coming shortly, be patient And then two more orbital tests were undertaken, one by Keburan and the other by Ktechka. I took videos of the launch of the Ktechka and the landing of both shuttles, and completely ruined the audio quality with my mic, my voice, and my lack of being a good commentator. Videos coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient And then a series of tests were undertaken to stabilize the parachutes Picture coming shortly, be patient And one more orbital test of the Ktechka: Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient Picture coming shortly, be patient And so far that is where the program is. Sorry for the future image heaviness, maybe I'll turn each section into an Imgur album. Again, having issues with uploading photos (takes too much effort for resizing a stupid screenshot), so you'll have to do with placeholders and imagine the teaser picture shuttle in each of them with what you think I'm doing

Spiritwolf/Hanland Submissions

I hate this feeling that I need to build something for this page but everything I try to build winds up being overly large and likely impossible to get into space (replaceable parts, extra weapons and a lot of fuel, double layers of armor, and barely any knowledge in lifting heavy objects into space) I'm also not liking my account being wiped back in April and being too lazy to set everything up again -

is it bad when the one whoblew up the ship doesn't even know what came flying out of it? -

Datubaman, maybe you should launch it in seperate assemblies... also allowing damaged parts to be replaced
