Do you use probe components to de-orbit large booster stages?
Blaylock1988 replied to Markus Reese's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I usually do my best to limit debris. I design lower stages to run out just before the Pe rises above 30km during circularizing. I put batteries, small solar panels, probe bodies, and extra fuel on upper stages so that I can deorbit those as well. -
Successfully launched Two Rockets Simultaneously with MechJeb
Blaylock1988 replied to Blaylock1988's topic in KSP Fan Works
I also feared that as well, I was surprised that they came unscathed. The lower ship probably took some damage from the exhaust, but I didn't check the report to verify this. -
I was too lazy to make a bunch of trips, so I decided to do everything in one, jebediah style. The video is of me launching two Karmony III parts for my space station. Using the trick I discovered using Mechjeb on 2 ships at the same time to make super easy docking, I decided to try something a little more adventurous. It took a few tries but I finally got it all in one take, uncut and unedited. I managed to keep them from drifting further than 2.5km apart so they stayed in real-time physics simulation the entire time. After launching into space I docked both ships together for easier rendezvous to my space station.

Interesting...what mods, if any?

Orbital Stations? Can't play anymore
Blaylock1988 replied to Ginger Ripley's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I am running an i5-3570K with 8 Gb of RAM and a GTX 660 SC2 w/ all settings at max. I experienced a performance drop with space stations when upgrading from .19 and starting new in 0.20, as opposed to the increase i was anticipating with the optimizations that Harvester had talked about.... -
I added Kethane to the the 20m asteroid. I docked a vessel with drills and tried mining, but it wasnt doing anything, then I realized its just mining to itself...so if you have docking ports on your asteroid (and added Kethane to your .cfg file), you dont need any kethane drills or tanks. I have yet to try clamping a ship down with KAS and trying to mine it while undocked. Also, for all of you that just stuck a 2.5m tank on with a Sr. docking port, your fuel will not flow correctly (even when using fuel lines it didnt work quite right). I just experimented with this for about an hour, and discovered that you must have proper radial mounts for fuel to flow correctly. If you want a 2.5m radial mount to stick your Sr. docking port on, you can use the one that comes from the spherical tank addon or from the BACE kit addon (from 18.4).

it seems like EVERYONE has problems with spaceport, uploaders especially.

*snip* (too off topic)

when i say i cheated, i really used cheats, infinite fuel, infinite RCS, unbreakable joints. I dont consider launching an asteroid from earth anywhere near realistic, so I don't feel guilty using any means to get it there. I would have used hyperedit if I knew it worked

I am sending mine into orbit as I type this. It took me a couple hours to get this thing to go. Using a combination of the Jool pack and KW rocketry to get it up, along with cheats UPDATE: Ok so I got it into a stable orbit. I discovered through using Crew Manifest addon, the 20m asteroid had 3 Kerbals in it! Their portraits don't show, but i was able to move them out and into another habitat.

Downloading now! An asteroid fuel depot in orbit around Kerbin sounds AMAZING!

Wow that asteroid is pretty cool! I would love to have a mining fuel depot asteroid orbiting kerbin! -
SSTOs! Post your pictures here~
Blaylock1988 replied to KissSh0t's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
I just built a SSTO Chairplane! Totally stock except for mechjeb for dV stats and a port for KAS refueling on my space station. Docked at my station at 200km I didn't know you can get SSTO spaceplanes into orbit with those tiny little orange engines, I may have to try a new design... -
Orbital Stations? Can't play anymore

I also noticed a huge performance drop going from 0.19 to 0.20. I had a HUGE station that I am trying to rebuild in 0.20 and I am only 1/4 of the way there and am already experiencing a larger than normal FPS drop with only 150-ish parts. -

[0.90] ProgCom - CPU Emulator V0.11.1
Blaylock1988 replied to SimplySimon's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
So is this similar to Expression 2 from HL2 Garry's Mod? -
Unfortunately that will be a lost cause if you want current ones. There are a few old ones like daver mentioned. But unless you work for the NRO or the dark areas of ULA, you wont see one or know what the current ones look like. They are classified Top Secret SCI. There are plenty of other amazing satellites that you could do like AEHF, DSCS III, WGS, GPS II-F, MILSTAR, DSP, DMSP, SBIRS etc. TDRSS is a beautiful satellite too!

Ok, I assumed that he mandates/decides what goes in.
-
Great find! Also, this diagram will help with the variants if BobCat wants all of them Only the 4m 2nd stage is orange, the 5m 2nd stages are all white on the outside.

Here is a much better picture of the real thing in the HIF (Horizontal Integration Facility) just before integration with the 1st stage. You can see the nozzle is so large that it completely covers the entire engine.
-
Yes the vacuum nozzle extends after separation using a corkscrew-like action over the length of a few seconds, nearly tripling the length of the original nozzle size. In this picture you see the shell-type thing cut away to show the engine, that shell is the vacuum extension. They do this to keep it much more compact until upper stage separation. http://www.astronautix.com/engines/rl10b2.htm
-
Will you be adding the extending exhaust nozzle for that upper stage? Also, the LOX tank at the bottom should be more symmetrical, the bottom looks a bit flattened than the top in the video.

I can't wait to use the Delta IV Heavy for my main EELV!
