  1. @astroheiko Whatever you do make sure they have plenty of sunscreen. Oh, and a space heater, ironically enough. And post about it, of course!
  2. What @OhioBob said. It would be, in my case, catching Grannus @ periapse, with an ejection burn of around 7km/s. Have you tried computing it with MechJeb or another plotter?
  3. I would like this post just to mess with you, but I'm out of likes for the day.
  4. 'Tis... grinding. Ended up being one of those chapters @KSK and others have mentioned, that seems simple on the surface but then gets all... oniony... with layers. But I did get to use azidoazide azide in a sentence. Oh, and hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane. Im hopeful there'll be something this weekend. Maybe.
  5. Year 4, Day 121... I sense a great disturbance in the cosmos... As if dozens of voices suddenly cried out in terror... As if the world was shaken beneath our feet... As if the very fabric of reality itself was torn asunder... I knew we shouldn't have trusted Vlad's cooking again. Oh, and the fabric of reality seems to have changed, too. Somehow we wound up with a contract to return science from the surface of Grannus. What the flarp is a Grannus? I didn't even know we had a Grannus. Why does nobody tell me these things?!? Along with the snazzy new realitic fabric, our rockets have changed too. Suddenly all the tanks are much lighter while the engines are more powerful. It's almost as if we're being toyed with by some unseen intelligence, as if this were some sort of game....Oh, well, that's philosophers' schtick, and we're here to build rockets. So we're finally going to Tellumo. The downside is that the odds of landing something resembling a charcoal briquette just rose steeply.
  6. Looks like the right scale for: I see your Schwartz is as big as mine.
  7. I finally "unlocked" Grannus (Research Bodies). At 6.4x scale, it actually doesn't look that hard to get to: ...except for the 46-year transit time. and then the intercept would spin the theoretical probe right round like a record baby and shoot it out of the solar system in the opposite direction. Plugging in some more numbers, it turns out such a feat would be only slightly more difficult than getting into an orbit of Thalia. And Icarus... ha, ha, don't get me started.
  8. Quicker/easier turnaround. SuperDracos use hypergolic fuel, nasty nasty stuff to work with. Falcon's thrusters are just nitrogen gas. Lower power/ efficiency but much easier to "refuel and go." Compare to the Space Shuttle, which also used hypergolic thrusters. After landing, they had to wait minutes/hours to even go near it due to the toxic fumes.
  9. Erm... perhaps that's not setting the most encouraging precedent... Yes, the boost cover was integral to the LES. It's whole purpose was to protect the capsule from the LES.
  10. And only moderately more prone to explosions.
  11. Nah, I'll stick with the "Innovations with a chance of explosions" channel. Come to see the future, stay for the floor show. besides, this thread has the attention span of a sugared-up two-year-old...
  12. Year 4, Day 97... So, we found a new engine today. We didn't unlock it, it was sort of just... there. Apparently it's an RD-180. Could have sworn we didn't have any of those. Well, I told the engineers to just run with it, but I think they took me a little too literally and the whole bunch spend the next week in spinal traction. Maybe it was the copious painkillers, or possibly the infirmary food, but eventually they came up with the brilliant idea of using it on a rocket. No, not that way! The other way! Hey, who put those launch clamps inside the boosters?!? Our insurance doesn't cover gratuitous violation of the laws of physics, people! Anyway, here's the re-engined Kommissar launcher. A single RD-180 replaces an entire cluster of 9 RD-... somethings. . . . what's that ominous rumbling and vague feeling of mounting dread?
  13. They've also said they're using the silliest payload they can think of, AND trying to do everything on the cheap, being just a test flight... ...so my money's on a recovered Dragon, or part of one, bolted upside down on the top of the second stage. Just for the lulz. And the dataz. Even if when it's a complete failure, it's still a golden opportunity to get hard numbers on recovering the stage without compromising a paying payload or spending a lot. On another note, did they ever announce why the next launch got delayed till the end of the month?
  14. It's just Lili... surface gravity is barely a few hundredths of a G, less than even Gilly... how hard could landing possibly be? It didn't explode, it, um... separated into multiple smaller probes flying in a tight yet rapidly diverging formation, yeah...
  15. @JadeOfMaar Finally figured it out, thanx. I think the original GPP decal config was interfering, I added :FINAL to my own and now they're back again.
  16. OK, so, what'm I doing wrong here? Using the following MM patch hacked from the GPP patch, getting nothing. /Ussari is a folder off of /Gamedata @PART[sticker*]:NEEDS[blackheart] { @MODEL { @texture = placeholder , Ussari } @MODULE[FStextureSwitch2],2 { @nextButtonText = Next Ussari Flag @prevButtonText = Previous Ussari Flag @statusText = Current in Ussari @textureRootFolder = Ussari\ @textureNames = flag3a ; flag3b ; ussari ; 8SQEW2a ; gFJz0JO ; wDrSAaq @textureDisplayNames = Flag1;Flag2;Flag3;BurntFlag;Texture;Wedge } } @PART[sticker]:NEEDS[blackheart] { @title = Place Anywhere Ussari Sticker Type A } @PART[stickerv]:NEEDS[blackheart] { @title = Place Anywhere Ussari Sticker Type B } @PART[stickermini]:NEEDS[blackheart] { @title = Place Anywhere Mini Ussari Sticker } @PART[stickerbig]:NEEDS[blackheart] { @title = Place Anywhere Big Ussari Sticker }
  17. Am I seeing things in that last one or has it blown away all the water to expose the bedrock beneath?!?
  18. Come for the explosions, stay for the floor show.
  19. @JadeOfMaar Did something change with the 1.2.x update regarding the decals? Below is the MM config I was using, but my decals seem to have disappeared? The folder's in the right place. @PART[sticker]:NEEDS[blackheart] { @title = Place Anywhere Ussari Sticker Type A @MODEL { @texture = placeholder , Ussari } @MODULE[FStextureSwitch2] { moduleID = 1 @nextButtonText = Next Stock Flag @prevButtonText = Previous Stock Flag } MODULE { name = FStextureSwitch2 moduleID = 2 showListButton = True nextButtonText = Next Ussari Flag prevButtonText = Previous Ussari Flag statusText = Current in Ussari objectNames = stickerflat;sticker125;sticker250;sticker375 textureRootFolder = Ussari\ textureNames = flag3a ; flag3b ; ussari ; 8SQEW2a ; gFJz0JO ; wDrSAaq textureDisplayNames = Flag1;Flag2;Flag3;BurntFlag;Texture;Wedge debugMode = false showInfo = false } } @PART[stickerv]:NEEDS[blackheart] { @title = Place Anywhere GPP Sticker Type B @MODEL { @texture = placeholder , Ussari } @MODULE[FStextureSwitch2] { moduleID = 1 @nextButtonText = Next Stock Flag @prevButtonText = Previous Stock Flag } MODULE { name = FStextureSwitch2 moduleID = 2 showListButton = True nextButtonText = Next Ussari Flag prevButtonText = Previous Ussari Flag statusText = Current in Ussari objectNames = stickerflat;sticker125;sticker250;sticker375 textureRootFolder = Ussari\ textureNames = flag3a ; flag3b ; ussari ; 8SQEW2a ; gFJz0JO ; wDrSAaq textureDisplayNames = Flag1;Flag2;Flag3;BurntFlag;Texture;Wedge debugMode = false showInfo = false } } @PART[stickermini]:NEEDS[blackheart] { @title = Place Anywhere Mini GPP Sticker @MODEL { @texture = placeholder , Ussari } @MODULE[FStextureSwitch2] { moduleID = 1 @nextButtonText = Next Stock Flag @prevButtonText = Previous Stock Flag } MODULE { name = FStextureSwitch2 moduleID = 2 showListButton = True nextButtonText = Next Ussari Flag prevButtonText = Previous Ussari Flag statusText = Current in Ussari objectNames = stickerflat;stickerh;stickerv textureRootFolder = Ussari\ textureNames = flag3a ; flag3b ; ussari ; 8SQEW2a ; gFJz0JO ; wDrSAaq textureDisplayNames = Flag1;Flag2;Flag3;BurntFlag;Texture;Wedge debugMode = false showInfo = false } }
  20. Um.... that looks like it went bad before you even started...
  21. I'm not crazy! I'm not crazy! I'm NOT crazy! *chews fingers crazily* Ahem, yes, well... I never got a chance to verify myself, the newest version of Kerbalism supersedes the stock panel stuff, and that, at least, does seem to be working properly with everything.
  22. See my previous comment about summoning Krakens.
