I have to laugh when I see statements like this. A couple of inches absolutely paralyzes this place. What little I saw today was a ghost town. How much of a ghost town? I drive a bus, but today I just sat at the bus yard cuz they just cancelled half the runs. I heard guys were running so late everyone just said "flarp it, drive for a while, then come back." One guy who did go out sat in a van for three hours waiting for his relief bus to show up. Which never actually did. And then, this was my commute home: Nope, road was never plowed. Not even touched. It looked like this until I got to my ferry, then over here on my little rural backwater island with a shoestring transportation budget, everything was clear and dry. "it only dropped about a foot or so... cleared within a few hours..."

The Earth. I thought Sunday seemed way too short... but today is going really fast for some reason... -
Doot, doot, doot, lookin’ out my back door... “Just a dusting,” the man said. “Maybe an inch or so,” the man said. “Barely even a moderate impact to travel,” the man said... Meanwhile, my wife just stayed home. Her entire workplace shut down shortly thereafter. There’s numerous power outages, emergency protocols are being called up, and the roads are eerily deserted save for all the Priuses and Subarus in the ditch. [cue raucous laughter from the midwest]

Well, seeing as we’re all still here (we are, aren’t we?), if there were any eldritch abominations in attendance, Elon must have just punched them in the face. Who designed the ignition system, Rube Goldberg? Must be, since it actually worked... well... Actual relevant content: -

That audio tho... After the bangs, that groaning... did... did they just rip through the space Time continuum and summon an eldritch abomination from outside reality?? -

So... Silver Surfer Skydiver recovery for the booster as well? Makes sense, I suppose... if it’s stainless it can probably easily take the entry heating from only Mach a few, and with aerodynamic deceleration, that saves the entry burn entirely and only need a landing burn from a much lower terminal velocity, hmm... That would certainly be a sight to see. Mostly cuz we’d actually get to see it. -

This thread as always... And there will be no TEATEB with Raptor, it’s spark ignited. So no issues like the FH core stage. tho they will have to herd sparks... -

@KSK take all the time you need, we, the readership, remain as always, all ears. But you are not allowed to quit. If you dare quit I’ma resurrect RJ, Sir Terry, and a most-unhappy-at-being-disturbed-during-his-celestial-cribbage-match-with-C.S.-Lewis Mr. Tolkien and come find you and there will be words, sir, there will be words, ya dig? ಠ_ಠ- 1,789 replies

Right, I forget the number, but there was a flight with a failed core/upper stage sep, and they aborted with he Soyuz’s OM engine. I hear the steep descent was... most unpleasant. But still preferable to the alternative. -

Soyuz has like two (maybe 3) completely separate abort motors. The tower was indeed jettisoned just before BECO, the actual abort was performed by solid motors on the (still attached) fairing. Guess they figure that high up they don’t need the oomph of the entire abort tower to get away safely. Seems correct after this “test”, too. -

I think everyone else was just weirded out... This was actually the first chapter of Revelations, technically, mostly, written back in June of ‘17 before the actual writing commenced. Then one thing led to another after I found this: Our world’s Ivan the Terrible, after (much more unintentially) killing his own son. His eyes... More weirdness will eventually follow, next on Clarissa Alexandra Explains it All...
