  1. Try and handle seven interplanetary transfers all wanting attention at the same time without Kerbal Alarm Clock? I'd go nuts.
  2. Pics or I don't know what you're talking about.
  3. I stuck Jeb, Bob, and Bill on a mission docked to an old useless space station for years because I was tired of them turning up too often (especially when there were ALREADY Jebs, Bobs, and Bills in the game somewhere).
  4. I held off updating for a while since some mods were not yet updated (and still aren't). And I had some ships turning up underground (a couple rovers so far...haven't checked everything yet)...so I moved them to safer locations in 0.19 and tried updating the save again. For a couple things that have parts that haven't been updated (damned robotics hinges) I made replacement craft and edited them into the save in place of the others. My biggest problem was all the Dishy JEB 9000 units that I have attached to ships spread all over the solar system...but I used the new Dishy Bill 9000 cfg file in place of the old JEB 9000 cfg file, with edits, and all of the old units now link to MechJeb 2. So, yes... A bother to maintain big projects, but doable.
  5. Nonsense. The asteroids in the asteroid belt are huge distances apart...they aren't constantly smashing into each other. You've been watching too many movies made by idiots.
  6. Ok... So I went ahead and put the Bill9000 cfg file into the JEB9000 folder, then edited all the Bills in the cfg file to JEBs or Jebs (making sure to keep the proper capitalizations)......and the huge number of spacecraft I have spread around the solar system now seem to properly call up MechJeb 2.08. So I guess this worked. Hopefully nothing is going to come along later and bite me on the ass from this. Now I need to figure out how to use this new version of MechJeb.
  7. Yes, I add the necessary hardware to return booster stages from space. Sometimes I actually DO it. Other times I just say, "It has the equipment, it has the fuel, I've done these returns dozens of times so I know it works.....so let's just take it as read that I have returned this booster...and then I delete it.
  8. Are you afraid we're going to exterminate some space critters when we mine the asteroids for resources? With half a million asteroids spread out over a HUGE area, there's plenty of room for lots of mining operations further apart than we are from the Sun. No need to fight, boys.
  9. I've never dealt with a rocket in any situation where the center of gravity was not indistinguishable from the center of mass. So I can handle either.
  10. Since just before Thanksgiving 2012.
  11. I currently have to go to "page 2" for some of my most commonly used parts (like struts!). It would be very handy to be able to rearrange parts some day. After more important things get fixed.
  12. Also, I don't mind using MechJeb to target precision landings for my rockets.
  13. I think it's much easier to launch a wide variety of payloads on rockets. I suppose spaceplanes could be useful for simple crew transfers to/from orbit, but I have SSTO rockets that I can do that with faster and easier than I can with a spaceplane, which I found to be very finicky to fly well. But one should never discount the fun factor for those that like 'em.
  14. Niven & Pournelle's Footfall has a great space battle at the end.
  15. I've use Poodles in places i didn't think warrented a nuke...transfer stages to Minmus or Mün and landers there. Fits simple and nice on the Rockomax tanks, with less bother than clustering would have been. I think I may have tried the Mark 55‘s once on a skycrane, but went with the 24-77 engines instead. So the 55 is certainly my least used engine. Ion engines would have won for "least used" except that I've tried them out on rovers in the pre-electric wheel age.
  16. The speed at which atoms or molecules move in a gas depends on their atomic or molecular weight. Helium has a low atomic weight, so it moves faster (at the same temperature) than heavier molecules like oxygen and nitrogen and carbon dioxide. Therefore helium can easily escape from the Earth's atmosphere.
  17. I call it "Kerbol"...or more informally, "the sun."
  18. Were you able to plant a flag? I thought kerbals went all ragdoll on top of the pyramid.
  19. I have short checklists on post-it notes for some of the complex payloads I made to drop onto Laythe. And for some rockets that I have in place that I don't expect to fly rught away (so I won't forget imoortant steps) such as my SSTO rocket for getting back off of Laythe.
  20. No. In order to calculate Kerbol's mass, you need to use Kepler's third law of planetary motion, as modified by Newton to include masses: M = 4 * pi^2 * D^2 / ( G * P^3 ) Where D is the semi-major axis of the orbit of a planet orbiting Kerbol (in meters), P is the orbital period of that planet (in seconds), and G is the constant of universal gravitation (6.6726x10^-11). Then M is the mass of Kerbol in kg. This calculation confirms the value given in the Kerbal Celestials wiki. So Kerbol has too little mass to support thermonuclear fusion even though its other parameters match it being a red dwarf star.
  21. The total mass of material in the asteroid belt is much smaller than the mass of the Earth.
  22. Or can I just alter the JEB 9000 cfg file so that it will link the parts to MechJeb 2 instead of MechJeb 1?
