Didn't the wright flyers land on skids?
I did this way back when career was brand new, then I unlocked landing gear so naturally the first thing I did was to not build an aircraft with them
The first few did, but they quickly switched to wheels.
Skids seem nice, but don't offer much in the way of ground steering

Getting some very weird visuals with Scatterer. Noticed them in 1.1 at times and they're still there in 1.1.1.
So far I've noticed it around the Mun and Minmus, not around Kerbin and Duna. Haven't looked around other bodies yet but this suggests it only affects bodies without an atmosphere.
Log doesn't show anything to indicate an error, but Scatterer is rather chatty.

they were probably updating the download links to 1.1.1

That seems reasonable. Forums are not really suited to it and they have a much better setup in the official bug tracker.
not just that, but most "bug reports" on the forums are just unsubstantiated rants and not bugs at all. It's people misunderstanding the game and failing, trying to do things that worked in earlier versions but no more because of the new aerodynamics model and failing, etc. etc. etc.. Or they are ceaseless repeats of the same few issues that have been reported on the bug tracker and confirmed weeks ago...

Game is worth enough that many of us have bought more than one copy...

Just a simple graphic, but this shows them falling pointy end down.

it's oversimplified, more a schematic of the systems involved than an actual deployment image.
That said, it's likely the warheads indeed reenter pointy end first for the stated reason: minimizing time in flight so as to minimize the chance of interception as well as reducing the drift from wind. Extensive studies have been done on how to survive the heat shock. I think one involves extending a spike in front of the actual reentry vehicle to break up the shock wave so it doesn't slam into the main body as harshly.
Having the rear of the warhead act as a radiator can also help dissipate heat.
And of course the outer surface of the warhead can act as an ablator. We simply don't know as those designs are still (and probably always will remain so) top secret.

Apart from other software, which is indeed a distinct possibility, another thing that instantly came to my mind is a problem with the disk on which KSP is installed. If there are hardware problems with it, like bad sectors, that could well affect loading times.

DONT USE THE 10M HEATSHEILD FOR JOOL! It has NO heat protection, just high drag, you will burn up with it. I learned that the hard way
It protects fine against the heat on reentry at Eve. I don't know what you're talking about.

Let's see, my career currently has over 70 Kerbals working for it. I never hired any of them, they were all rescued. And I skipped some of the rescue missions.

Steam achievements make absolutely no sense in a game that doesn't have full Steam integration, and KSP luckily doesn't have that.
Same reason there can be no Steam workshop support either.
-
kill it so it can't kill us. Survival is key, thinking that everything except humans is just cute furry animals that can't do harm to us or would be fully justified to if it did do harm is beyond silly, it's suicidal.

yes, this happens with some regularity and it's highly annoying.
What I did notice is that MechJeb seems to still see it (if you create another node you now get the "execute all nodes" and "delete all nodes" buttons, but PreciseNode does not see it.
A word of warning too: it CAN make the vessel you're working with disappear as well. I was flying a station to put around Eve and had this happen while fine tuning the approach to the planet. This bug hit, I went back to space center view (which tends to fix it) and when I tried to select the vessel again in the tracking station it was gone, complete with its crew of two intrepid explorers. The game had for whatever reason deleted my station without a trace.

don't feed the troll please, and an obvious troll it is. 1.1 more buggy and slower than 1.0.5? All said right there, OP is making things up.

Must be a Windows thing. The OS X default remains 64-bit (build 1230).
that's because there is no 32 bit Mac version

Best thing to do with Venus is not colonise it, but leave it alone. Maybe send scoop ships to suck up the asmosphere if there's stuff there we need and can't get cheaper. Any human settlement'd better be in orbit, and orbit around earth or in the asteroids is probably a more advantageous location unless we decide we need Asimov style manned solar power plants closer to the sun in which case a station around Venus might serve as a staging area for maintenance and crew missions to those.

Probably stop assuming Squad has anything to do with Steam maybe.
Squad determines what settings Steam applies for the game...
And yes, they changed it for whatever reason.
And oh, there is nothing in the Steam "update history" to show 1.1, 1.0.5, or any other update ever happened...
-
yup, for whatever obscure reason someone decided to revert to having 32 bit as the default. IMO there shouldn't even be a 32 bit, anyone with a computer from the last decade or so should have a 64 bit operating system and anyone who has an older computer won't be able to run KSP at acceptable performance anyway.
-
probably a mod conflict, possibly in combination with an out of memory situation.

One thing I am curious about is if this issue is exclusive to the Mun's SOI or around other bodies in the system?
it can happen anywhere.
-
happens once in a while. I've seen it in the prerelease but never found a reliable reproduction scenario. Go back to the space center, select your vessel again, and things should work as expected.
-
never played KSP much on either, but haven't seen serious problems on either either.

Mostly Linux, I think. I haven't had a single crash under OS X at all since the public betas started.
And that's outside of Squad's control AFAIK, a problem with an external shared library Unity depends on (that isn't part of Unity).
-
I think that has more to do with Shadowplay than KSP. Unless and until Squad were to contract with NVidia to do stuff...
Giant 1.1.1 KSP.log/output_log.txt files

Unless you have overly spammy mods or seriously buggy mods (and yes, there are quite a few of those) you shouldn't have such huge log files. Find out which mods cause the log spam, and remove them (do report the problem to the mod author of course so they can try to do something about it).
