Don't remember when in 2013 I started, shortly before the Forum Incident I think. And only picked up FAR a few weeks ago. Learning how to fly again has been a whole lot of fun. Took 3-4 hours in a new career game last night to get a ship in to orbit, but when I did it was just as satisfying as the first time I did it, way back when.

For a limited time only, due to release-related hangovers, Wednesday is the new Tuesday.

A TWR of 1.6 seems high. I wouldn't even launch at full throttle, and without easing back it will almost certainly become unstable.
-
Yeah, in hindsight I'm fairly sure I could have unlocked them. I'd been avoiding looking too far ahead in the tech tree (never unlocked the full tree in any version), but being able to plan this sort of stuff sounds like a plus. Hooray new career!

Career is really pushing me to go further sooner than I'm used to. I've gathered a fair amount of science from around KSC and LKO, and continuing to keep a spare goo canister for new biome exploration when landing tourists in remote parts of Kerbin. But the only real way to get more science research done now is a Mun flyby, something I'm very hesitant about trying until I've got solar panels. But hey, what's the worst that could happen right?

There's a lot of discussion about the effectiveness of this change over in this thread

(zapped old irrelevant comment about not having a link) THANKYOU. Seeing instructions for manually editing config files being passed around was making me twitch. I'd been curious about the difference this makes, will give it a crack this evening.

Atmospheric Efficiency/optimal ascent speeds in 1.0?
stibbons replied to ShunterAlhena's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I'm loving having to relearn everything too. Just got to space for the first time. Again. And it was just as delightful as the first first time I got to space. Right now I'm trying to use my vertical velocity to control my gravity turn. The rocket wants to tip faster if I'm going slower. So I launch at full throttle, start turning five or so degrees at 100m/s, and then let the rocket fall over and try to ride the throttle so that it's around 45 degrees at 10km altitude. And then from there throttle up a bunch, and try to stick to around 60 or so degrees at 20km. Those numbers will probably be tuned as I get the hang of the new atmosphere. -
I don't really see this thread going anywhere good either.

I don't think I would have even found the monolith by KSC if I hadn't known roughly where to look. Nice work. Do the new stock resource scanners include scanning for these sorts of anomalies?

For that, you want to have a look at the Mod Development Links Compilation post in the Add-On Development forum. The plugin development section has a series of links to API docs and info on how to get a development environment set up. I haven't written anything from scratch, but following the docs there got me set up to contribute to a few other addons. Good luck!

OK. Wow. Who do I have to bribe to get this thread renamed the Hyperbole Train? - - - Updated - - - So you only do it around your house? That's comforting.

Your KSP "preflight checks" or funny rituals :)
stibbons replied to Goddess Bhavani's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I fly with a joystick and homebrew simpit. The first flight in a session includes a preflight checklist that tests all axes, toggles and buttons. I even go so far as to insert a dummy stage to test the stage button. This is mostly for the look of the thing, but did catch the one time a loose solder joint resulted in the stage button occasionally also setting the throttle to FTP. -
Late night in my timezone. I'm just going to turn my PC on, leave Steam logged in overnight, and assume 1.0 will be downloaded and ready to go by the time I get home from work tomorrow. In the meantime:

If only it were that easy.

Do you frequently walk around art galleries butting in to every conversation to shout that you don't think the artist finished?

Hey, welcome to the forum. There's two existing mods that are popular for simpits and controller hardware: Telemachus uses a web socket to get data in and out of the game, and KSPSerialIO uses a serial link over the Arduino's USB connection. They both output a lot of very detailed telemetry information. And also have a protocol for inputting control data. I'd suggest adopting one or the other for your project, and dropping the idea of keyboard emulation for simplicity's sake. There are quite a few hardware projects on the forums, most of them using one of those mods. Have a look at the custom hardware/simpit repository thread, and look for the [Hardware] tag in the Fanworks forum. Lots of ideas and inspiration to be found. And make sure you start a thread in the Fanworks forum for your project!

It's covered in the FAQ on kerbalspaceprogram.com. The TLDR is "no".

What should the first Mars City/Colony be called?
stibbons replied to Fr8monkey's topic in The Lounge
Duna. Or, you know, after the first person to land there. -
You missed the little dots. The target orbit has little dots that run around the path in the direction you need to be going. Get in the habit of checking them just before starting your turn.

At the bottom of your output_log is this DynamicHeapAllocator out of memory - Could not get memory for large allocationd3d: failed to create 2D texture id=1059 w=8192 h=8192 mips=14 d3dfmt=21 [out of memory] Could not allocate memory: System out of memory! Trying to allocate: 357913940B with 4 alignment. MemoryLabel: NewDelete Allocation happend at: Line:0 in Overloaded New[] Which means your KSP install is hitting its memory limit. There's nothing wrong with running AVP from CKAN. Everything is set up the way it should, and the last time I checked on my box it was getting all of the dependencies on its own. A quick eyeball of your list shows you've got everything it wants. About the best you can hope for is using ATM, and have a look through its accompanying forum thread. Initial startup with it is expected to take a lot longer than usual while it re-encodes textures. And if you're already close to your RAM limit having ATM crash during that initial run is common too. Just start again and it'll continue where it left off.
