Well, if that's the only problem...

The SpaceX we currently know will never be able to do a mars mission on their own, not without some upheaval how spacefaring technology/business works. It's even questionable if NASA could do a mission on their own, afair the current expectations are more along of a combined mission of NASA, ESA and Roskosmos.

Normal! Just land at places where you get at least a short 'runway'. In KSP102 often you'll only need 100m or so. Btw, my fault, it's a HTVL. Important distinction!
-
Oh, you can actually land planes with parachutes. Just make sure to have an engineer in your crew (and ladders!). Put ~2 chutes on top of a plane, make sure the center of mass is directly between them. To land just slow down by turning, and then activate parachutes. Then just repack them with an engineer before the next take off. It's a true VTHL.

Happened during my first satellite contract, too. Luckily enough i've got a tendency to overdesign light satellites, so I could just turn my orbit around.

Issues with "Stage Only" on the Resources Tab
Temeter replied to Entropiated's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I don't think stage only did ever seem to work correctly for me. Some crafts just confuse the heck out of it. Which is weird, considering e.g. the remaining fuel for a rocket engine is shown correctly in the staging list. -
Afaik it's the top of the rocket creating a bit of body lift. Should be easily corrected by putting 4 of the tiny fins to the main rocket.

Or you do it the true Kerbal Way. Flying rover.

Venting the 1.0 launch

Btw, to make clear what a lot of those 'criticism negative' response are, check the heat gauge memory leak thread. Someone makes a thread to mention a serious bug, all people agree. Then some people start telling others how to workaround the bug by a single button press. Then someone suddenly snaps and claims all those talks about workarounds are implying (which funnily enough means nobody is actually saying) the bug isn't actually serious and doesn't need to be fixed. Did we really have a single thread where relevant criticism about undeniable issues was shutdown because of bias? I dare you, just link us that thread. Otherwise this is just another bunch of childish whining how 'x is crap' isn't treated as serious discussion and word of god. That's not criticism, it's basically asking for the aknowledgement of a supposed failure. And when arguing for something of this scale then you should only be aimed at a very, very common attitude. Otherwise it's actually in a sense disrespecting the all other people who don't agree. Might sound picky, but that's really what this is about, said aknowledgement has no practical use and wouldn't actually make fixes come faster. And no, criticism mentioned by a loud minority is not as important as criticism by a majority, and therefor shouldn't overrule anything. -
I tried the listed Joystick1Button0 too (ofc didn't work). Well, Unity screwing something up with gamepads is not exactly a new thing from a user-perspective.

Not a singly of these posts is a valid criticism, and most of the answers are things you can currently do, not defenses. How about developing a bit self-awareness and asking why exactly the responses feel negative to you? Might be because you put them in a bad way that doesn't actually help in any way. Yeah, fix those silly non-red colors! I guess a part of the games userbase is just really young. If you want to see a similar pattern (but a lot worse), check the steam forums. -

But isn't it pointless to ask for an official acknowledgement if the criticism isn't unanimous? Otherwise the game also will get polished nontheless, the next updates, fixes, and unity 5/64 bit were already anounced. And really, it was known before. E.g. for me, I noticed some minor issues (only because of experience tho), but at least my missions weren't affected a single time in 1.0 by those issues, and 101 came fast. Atm only the F10 memory leak is a serious problem, but that's about it. Nothing i'd ever ask an apology for. Heck, if I could decide to delay the release and get it later with my current knowledge, then i'd still say 'no, bring it on'. Btw, agreed on the tutorials. Seems like a big improvement, but still needs some recherche on the internet. Not that recherche is bad, but I'd really like something like pressing F2 and getting a help overlay explaining the flight UI. -
Yeah, it's a nice little touch. Even changes color when you're klicking! Otherwise...

[1.1] BDArmory v0.11.0.1 (+compatibility, fixes) - Apr 23
Temeter replied to BahamutoD's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
The MK20 cluster bomb tends to to stray of quite a bit from it's predicted course at low altitude, maybe because of bodylift (saw some when activating aerrows), too? Both MK82s seemed relatively fine at mid/low altitude. -
Must say i love the new exhaust animations

I don't think we need to worry to much about that, Unity 5 might well be an absolute gamechanger when it comes to physics performance. -
Venting the 1.0 launch

Nope, please not more pseudo economical analysis. KSP was making money. In fact, I remember from one interview that the game was making money before it got to steam, and it blew really up when it got there. Otherwise, what is the point? It's not like releasing a bit earlier or later would actually create a big influence in the amount of sales. There isn't much coming out right now, aside from witcher 3, which, despite being presumably awesome, is probably not exactly the biggest competitor to KSP. That's the thing you need too argue and proof before throwing out accusations about 'just wanting more money to the expensive of the game'. Although you didn't even define the supposed expense. You too, that's a lot of assumptions disguised as facts. What is the expense? New players seem to love it, reviews love it. This sole thread isn't even unanimous, far from it. -

Didn't yet test it, but it makes sense: Since damage is done by heat, the toughness of a material is determined by thermal mass. Which is derived from weight (and some multipliers) and means lightweightstructural plates aren't the best shields anymore. Edit: Otoh you'll get two shiny 'damage' overlays with F10 and F11. Although one might want to disable the former one to avoid memory leaks. Guess we need extra shield parts. One thing tho: You can use the reentry shields, their ablative armor will protect very well against damage. If you want to create 'shields' by hand, there is thermalMassModifier, heatConductivity, and emissiveConstant in the cfg (check wings). Against guns those things would be toughness, damage-tranfer (which should be low), and regeneration. Of course also the heat tolerance, which should be higher. Mind that will absolutely impact the stock games heat mechanics! -

There is the issue. You are reacting far too sensitive about these matters. Almost all of these things aren't crucially important and also handled this way by most people, yet you - and some others, to be fair - decided to take it personal. Of course others handling of the situation and your perceptions completely clash! Happens sometimes when you are very invested into something, but I can only recommend to take a step back and take things for what they are. That's why the simple 'it's just a game' is indeed a sensible answer. The horse is dead and the game is very well received by new players, the only people, to which the exact point of release actually matters. As for the game's design, yep, most people seem pretty happy, KSP is indeed very succesfull. That doesn't mean your opinion is meaningless or anything, but it means Squad did something reasonable with KSP which made sense from their standpoint. And lets be honest, nobody of us would be so invested in the first place if the game wouldn't be great. -

Or take Stalker. Absolutely messy game where you could easily see the overlong production time, all the thrown off features, and lots of bugs. And it's still one of the most atmospheric game worlds ever created. And that's for a semi-open world game, a genre, which is kind of infamous for being very janky when it comes to credibility. -

'Fool the ignorant', 'The measure of success', great, now we've get even more melodramatic than before. Even on this forum, there is only a minority which is wasting their time hardcore complaining. Reviewers indeed take a more or less in depth look at the game, so their voice matter alot. And similarly next to none of the complaints are even existent in most other forums, or in all those threads below the reviews. If you'd actually take a look at thsoe, then you'd notice a staggering amount of positive responses. One thing: For those players who are playing this game for years numbers don't mean ..... It doesn't matter if it's 1.0 or 0.95, everything is just another update, nothing more. It matters for reviews and new players who want a servicable game, and most of these players seem to be completely convinced it is one. So, the release version wasn't to your liking? Who cares, it doesn't even matter to you. And don't even start something like 'one the behalf of new players'. -
Nice! I did notice the price and it also did seem strange to me. Never made the connection, tho.

Most of the complaining is hysterical, self righteous and melodramatic. I don't like personal examples, but this thread is perfectly fitting. It's a pointless bunch of complaints with no relevanve to the actual things going on. How terrible was the launch of KSP1.0? That terrible. As it turns out, you're wrong, releasing the game was the correct decision, or at least didn't have any repercussions. It's state was serviceable for launch. It's a fact now. -
With a single pad (+windows priority) the first button is Joystick1Button0. The Axis binding say 'Controller (XBOX 360 For.Axis1'. Otherwise it's not that much of an issue, in the worst case scenario one can just get XPadder and bind those 4 buttons to number keys, and the other action keys work fine.
