  1. Orbiter is a fine game but I think it started to stall out. I played and created add-ons for it since its very first days. My add-ons were all scifi and really broke the laws of physics in the game but were a lot of fun and included quite a few innovations and firsts for the game. I dumped it all when I discovered KSP and haven't gone back since.
  2. I use to make scifi add-ons for Orbitersim and somebody asked if I ever played KSP. I tried it and dumped Orbitersim in favor of KSP.
  3. Talk about the opposite ends of the spectrum. I like both. I also created the Firefly mod for Orbitersim so I lean towards Firefly more than Trek but I also did a few Trek type mods for Orbitersim. The "Sidney" comes to mind.
  4. except for some graphics weirdness it seemed to work. I have a couple of asteroids orbiting Kerbin and their shape was completely different. Some things clamped to it were well away from the surface and some were deeply embedded into it.
  5. deorbited a spent stage right into my space station.
  6. I built an awesome station around Duna and forgot to send enough food with it. I then hired a somewhat less than honest supplier to send food to the starving Kerbals manning the station. Little did I realize at the time that the supplier was stealing kittens from Kerbal kids, boiling them in some green soup and sending it all up in an unmanned delivery ship. When the story broke that the Duna station was living on kidnapped kittens my company was shamed out of business and the poor Kerbals on Duna left to die because nobody wants kitten eaters around. It was a very shameful incident in an otherwise successful space program.
  7. It can't be compared to the explorers or colony building in the old days. Those folks had resources available in the places they went to. They didn't have to worry about breathable air or the problems with gathering resources. Mars has nothing that can be easily used by humans. In order to survive everything including air has to be taken and resupplied. Soil, water, and nutrients have to be brought with them in order to grow food. Back in the day you didn't die because you got a hole in the roof. Making a colony on Mars is a very difficult project. A co-worker of mine signed up and gave me the coffee mug she was given for signing up. It shows the tiny little habitats they will be spending pretty much the rest of their lives in. Think about living with four other people in a room about the size of the average bedroom for the rest of you life. Also think about never going outside without a space suit or being able to sit in the sun.
  8. Naked and Afraid like my grand pappy use to. I like to build stations and bases. I also pretty much hang out within Kerbin's SOI. I recently trashed my last save and started anew with completely different designs for stations. I current have a big asteroid station orbiting Kerbin and a station orbiting Minmus. Next I will either send a station to orbit Mun or send a lander to the Minmus station. The plan is to also put a base on each. The only other places I've gone is Duna, Jool and one of the moons of Jool but other planets hold no interest because of the long waits for launch windows as I have limited time in which I can get to play. The last time I played was over two weeks ago but I'm going to try to play tonight.
  9. Your location says Northeast. Is that USA, New England? My daughter teaches in RI.
  10. I run into a lot of them when using ARM parts. Last night it was so bad that I rebuilt my ship without any ARM parts and everything went as expected.
  11. My hip is more of a problem and switching hands didn't help the hip issue.
  12. I fenced epee for years. My wife has won a silver and two bronze in epee competition. My daughter is a fencing coach for epee and foil. My son fenced all three weapons. I had to give it up because it ruined my hip and elbow.
  13. And for my last trick! Orion Slave Girls..... Okay, I'm done with this silliness.
  14. Here is my station orbiting Kerbin at about 300km. It's made up of two roids because the first one I captured was too small so I went out and got another one. I modified the cfg file for the Port-a-Hatch to allow it to work with KAS and increased the Kerbal count to 15. That way I was able to attach it directly to the asteroid during EVA. I also modded the docking ports so that I could attach them directly to the roid. This allows me to make believe that the Kerbals hollowed out the roid to use as a station. The 3 wheels make for comfortable living with gravity for 12 Kerbals. The lifeboat only holds 16 Kerbals so I limit the number to 12 at any one time. The orange tanks hold fuel so that visiting ships can refuel if they need to. All modules are docked so the Kerbals don't have to EVA to go from a module to the interior.
  15. I'm having fun with this today. The twins got a makeover.
  16. Not all of the add-ons. These are not just flat colors.
  17. I played Orbiter since it was first offered. I also did a lot of scifi add-ons for it but stopped because of the hassle. Some of the ships I created took 100s of hours and the stress of having to "out do" my last creation was just too much. Then I discovered KSP at version .17 and I've never gone back to Orbiter.
  18. This is all I have in space with the newest release. It's in Sandbox mode. It is my asteroid space station. The first one I brought into Kerbin orbit was too small so I had to go out and get a bigger one. The small one was attached via a claw to the bigger one and now has the solar panels attached to it. The Kerbals have hollowed out the larger one for use as a general purpose space station. The asteroid can hold 15 Kerbals and the wheels 12 in a comfortable gravity environment. The life boat can hold a max of 16 Kerbals so I have never had more than 15 on the station at one time. There are docking ports installed directly in the asteroid so the Kerbals do not have to EVA to go from module to module. The orange tanks hold fuel for refueling of visiting ships if needed. There are two smaller docking ports but no large ones. Future plans call for adding at least on large docking port.
  19. More messing with eyes and faces. I tried to give the twins a normal map but it didn't turn out as I hoped. All the original faces were from Pimp my Kerbals.
  20. One of these is not like the others. Pretty scary looking. I wouldn't want to meet her at a bar.
  21. Sitting inside an asteroid eating snacks.
  22. I modded the config file for the Port-a-Hatch and made it attachable using KAS. I also increased its Kerbal capacity to 15 Kerbals. I then attached it to my asteroid station orbiting Kerbin. I can now make believe the Kerbals hollowed out the asteroid to make it into a station. All I have to do now is add some docking ports and the asteroid station will be complete.
  23. When my ship just breaks apart the pieces do fall straight down to Kerbin just like in that video. Generally during stage separation all the ARM parts from the stage being ejected will just come apart or explode rather than falling away still assembled.
