  1. Last night I made a small 3 Kerbal lander and flew to the Mun to try out a different way of landing. More Apollo like rather than suicide burning. Ran out of fuel during the transfer and had to use my lander engines to complete the burn so my Kerbals were not coming home. Set up a nice entry into Mun orbit and started to circularize the orbit and ran out of power. I forgot to deploy the solar panels. Even without power I was able to deploy the panels so I figured I was okay but, I forgot to realign myself after running out of power and ended up in an almost straight down decent fairly close to the surface. I tried to save the mission but I was going just to fast and hit the surface at about 200mps. I hadn't played in a few weeks and was very disappointed because I forgot to do so many things.
  2. You puke rainbow vomit all over your computer because of Steam updates? Just another reason not to use Steam.
  3. I had a perfect encounter with my station and ended up within 200 meters of it. I started thrusting towards the station and then decided to decouple my last stage and continue using just RCS. Just as I was about to dock I saw the stage coming towards the station. I aborted the docking and tried to get to it and bump it out of the way before it hit the station but I didn't make it. It took out half the station. I was lucky that no Kerbals were in the wrecked sections and I was able to rescue them. Another time during launch I ran into an orange tank that was left in a lower orbit. I've also knocked off panels while approaching for docking and took out a couple of panels with Kerbals doing EVA. One time the panel was just sitting there a few meters away and I wished I could have grabbed it with the Kerbal and reattached it.
  4. I watched it live. I just happen to have to go to Radio Shack to get some parts for my employer and they had it on the TV. When it blew up the guy next to me said, "I wonder what all the pieces flying away are." I looked at him and said, "People". That and watching the planes hitting the towers live is burn into my memory forever.
  5. It took me three tries before I got there. The first I ran out of fuel and went into deep space. The second I crashed during the landing. The third was a broken gear leg but I managed to get back anyway.
  6. How so? I've played the game at least 10 hours a week since version .8 or so and played the demo for many hours before that. I have debris to zero because I have an old computer. I also try my best not to leave any. I do a lot of unmanned flights and only have a dozen or so active Kerbals. Right now the big three are sitting on Minmus and have been for a long time. I don't take any screen shots. so that gives me, 0 about 10 0 for your stats. What is my past and present game play based on those?
  7. Nice job. Why not prototype an enclosure using foam board which can be found at any craft or office store. Then you only need a sharp hobby knife and a ruler.
  8. It can already be played on a laptop so the real question would be for tablets and phones. I have enough trouble seeing all the tiny things on a phone as it is. I can't imagine trying to create a craft with a few hundred parts. I have both a 10in tablet and a 7in but I can't see easily creating a large craft on those. Maybe the 10in one would be fine. Anyone with a Microsoft Surface Pro tablet should already be able to do this as the pro version runs the same OS as the laptops and desk tops.
  9. I only care about Sandbox mode so not much I would think. That is unless it can provide something of interest in SB mode.
  10. Well, I changed the texture size to 512x512 for suits and 256x256 for helmets and faces. The only problem I ran into was that I had my flag on the helmets and it ended up as a blob so I removed it. I also tried the textures as tga files but they were significantly larger than the png files. 193k for the tga vs 25k for the png. I did notice an improvement in that walking on Minmus was smother. My suits have little detail so the smaller file size didn't make any difference in quality that I could see. That will be the extent of my experiments for now because my son just gave me his desk top system because he upgraded to a new one. The difference between my old system and this new one is very significant so any further testing is worthless until I get use to how KSP runs on the new system.
  11. Well I don't know the actual FPS but I was just using 4 different suit textures and when I was walking a Kerbal across Minmus it was a slide show. I removed the mod and everything was fine with a good FPS after that. I also notice a FPS hit during launch that went away after removing the mod. How does the mod work? Is it the main KSP loop constantly calling it to check for a texture change? If so could there be flags to set in the cfg file that would disable checks for textures not being changed? It's kind of a waste to build texture list and scan through them all the time if that texture is never changed. Could it be done by removing all entries from the Texture List.txt file? I play around with changing the texture sizes and file types tonight if I have the time.
  12. I get an FPS hit using this. Is there any research into texture type or size in order to help out FPS. Looking at most of the texture files they are 1024x1024 and many of them, like helmets, don't have very much detail so would 512x512 or even 256x256 be a better size?
  13. I always forget power and run out. Once I ran out about a meter form the port I was trying to dock with. Another I killed off three Kerbals because I ran out during reentry. Many other times I've run out halfway through a transfer burn. Many a Kerbal has died because I forgot to add power to a ship.
  14. The other night I tried to launch another part of my Minmus base and the rocket took a hard right at launch and crashed. I had used the same launcher for the other parts so I knew it worked. I rebuilt the launcher many times and they all took a hard right to a crash. I built a very simple rocket of capsule, tank and engine. It also took a hard right and crashed. I started to remove mods and still crashed. Then I saw the problem which was sitting in front of me the whole time. The night before I had hooked up an old game pad to use for docking and EVA. After about 3 hours of head banging and rebuilding I unplugged the game pad and my rockets flew fine.
  15. To me also. I have to weigh the return on investment and making or carrying out threats to game makers is not worth my life. Be it imprisonment, fines, loss of employment or problems getting future employment. A game or item is just not worth the impact it would have on my life or family.
  16. Nope. Got me wrong there. I never ever went into the FSX forum and trash talked FSX or the users. You see, I play all kinds of sims and currently have in addition to KSP, I have FSX, FS9, XP9, MS Flight and Orbitersim loaded up. All I did was to tell the FSX people that didn't like Flight to stop posting the trash talk and hate in the the Flight forum and to leave the Flight forum people alone. I don't trash talk any game or users because I have better things to do.
  17. Very true and if you ever go over to the Orbitersim forums you will see people, many who complain, say that if you do mods for praise then you are in the wrong business. Personally I think they are jerks for such and attitude. Speaking of other forums. Did you hang out at the Microsoft Flight section of AVSIM? I recognize the duck. I got banned from AVSIM because I told the FSX people that were trashing people like me that liked Flight to take a hike and leave us alone. Tom didn't take kindly to me back talking his fan base and sent me a scathing PM and then had one of the mods ban me.
  18. Been there and doing that for 35 years. Heck, I use to code COBOL. I was a very well to do software designer and manager right up until I lost my job because the company got bought out and they canned all higher level positions. Just try to get a job in a bad market at the age of 55. I ran through my savings and retirement and finally got a job after 4 years as a low to mid level level C# programmer with pretty much no chance of advancement and now I find people want a 60 old even less then they want a 55 year old. Heck, I only got hired because my boss is married to an Mech Engineer that lost his job at 58 and never got another one. I think she felt bad for me. The down side is I'll most likely die at my desk as a 70 year old low level C# programmer because unless I win the lotto I'll never build up enough to retire.
  19. I think it has a lot to do with not being face to face with someone. You can easily tell off and insult somebody to the extreme because they don't know who you are and it would be unlikely that they can find out. People are really uncivil hiding behind a fake name and not revealing where they live. There are few if any repercussions for being an a-hole on the internet.
  20. I spent 23 dollars US and I've gotten a lot of entertainment value out of that 23 dollars. I would cost me twice that for a movie, dinner out or a single BR movie. All of which gives me only a couple of hours or so of diversion. KSP has given me many more hours for what amounts to cents per hour. Besides, my wife always knows where I am.
  21. I worked with a guy that did mods for another game. He ran a site for his mods and was an all around great guy. He did it because he loved the game and he really wanted to please the users. What he got was a lot of hate, insults and all around a-hole attitudes. It got to the point that one user was threatening him with arrest or harm if he did start to do as that person said as far as mods were concerned. The police recommended that he stop all activity with the game and remove all email addresses associated with him. Last time I talked to him he was playing KSP and really wanted to get into doing mods but, he is afraid it will turn out the same.
  22. Hi, I use to do mods for another game and I know what a thankless job it generally is. I just want to say, "Well Done!" This is a really nice mod and enhances the KSP experience for me.
  23. Thanks for the quick solution to the suit missing its texture. I still have the suit color switching issue but, I can live with that. Does anyone know what part of what texture controls the helmet visor color. Some how I managed to turn mine a shade of yellow and I can't find the area of the texture that is mapped to the visor. It gives all the Kerbals a yellow tint which really doesn't look good with their green skin.
  24. Hi, I did up four suit textures and I'm running into an issue and I wonder if anyone can help. They started out as my attempt to create the suits seen in the movie "2001" but, I didn't like the ribbed effect so I dumped it in favor of solid colors. The suits are: EVASuit1.png = Yellow EVASuit2.png = Green EVASuit3.png = Red EVASuit4.png = Blue I also have four helmets but they all look the same because I didn't like the random mismatching of helmet to suit. There is also the EVASuitNormalMap.png. All files are in the UniverseReplacer\Textures\Kerbals folder. Here is the problem. The fist EVA has no suit texture. As can be seen there is no Yellow, Green, Red or Blue texture. Now it gets strange. The next Guy out has no texture but the first guy is now Blue. Okay, now I exit the next guy. Now the first guy out is Red, the second out is Blue and the third has no texture. Now the final guy leaves and as can be seen the first guy is Green, second guy is Red, third is Blue and the fourth has no texture. What did I miss? Do I have to add each suit to the cfg file? Put them in their own folders? What? Thanks for any help.
