Today I managed to race the AI to a stalemate, as neither one of us got to the Moon before the end of the Seventies. That's better than constantly losing, but not by much.

Krag's Planet Factory Pre-release Thread
Specialist290 replied to Mr Shifty's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Friendly neighborhood moderation staff reminder: Let's keep the inflammatory posts and personal attacks to a minimum, please. As others have previously noted, links to the download have been pulled because Kragrathea failed to provide a license and access to the source code in compliance with full regulations. That may not have been a wise move on the developer's part, but it's no excuse for members of this community to antagonize a developer or one another over the fallout. Once the proper requirements are met, we will lift the restrictions on posting download links; until then, we expect the community to remain calm and civil. Have a nice day -
Best of luck. I hope you know what you're doing with all that alcohol Disclaimer: Don't try this at home, unless you know your alcohol tolerance pretty well.

What the heck is going on in here?
Specialist290 replied to I_Killed_Jeb's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Did you have the brakes locked at any point before you activated the engines, though? Sometimes the brakes on the landing gear like to "stick" for a few seconds. -
This has all the makings of a rant thread, and those never end well for all parties involved. Locked.

So a small update on my own progress: ...Yeah. I never claimed to be good at this game.

Alright, I think I've got the hang of how it works now. My main issue was trying to figure out where / how to input the numbers. Anyway, looks quite useful

is my calculation correct?

I'll vouch for it as well. Let us know if you need any further help -
Welcome to the forums! Feel free to ask any questions you need to, or to answer someone else's if you have any experience with the problem they're encountering. You could also share your experiences in the Mission Reports or Live from Mission Control sections as well. In general, as long as you're polite and keeping your posts within the bounds of the Community Rules, there shouldn't be too much trouble. We always love to see new members who are passionate about making positive contributions to the community

[Video] Understanding the Navball & Maneuver Nodes Part 1
Specialist290 replied to buckeyemonkey's topic in KSP1 Tutorials
Finally had the chance to take a good look at one of these videos, and it sounds like you've got a very well put-together series here. Nicely done! -
[Video] Tutorial - Your first two Career Mode Missions
Specialist290 replied to EtherDragon's topic in KSP1 Tutorials
Very comprehensive, concise, and well-explained. Well done I agree with your instructional philosophy: My own personal philosophy as far as concerns teaching someone something new is "Consistency before efficiency": Make sure they understand what they're doing enough that they can repeat the basics, then build on that for advanced techniques. I also like the way you sow the seeds for other concepts by weaving them into your discussion without straying too far from the main topic. The blooper reel is a nice touch, too -
This looks nice, but do you think you could give a few more details on how we're supposed to use it?

My 3-man-can from Eve sea level attempt.
Specialist290 replied to csanders's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Impressive work I always like seeing other people's Eve ascent attempts. Let me know when you've worked out a full mission profile for that craft, including the launch from Kerbin and landing attempt; I'm sure that would be interesting to follow as well -
Quoting vexx's statement, since the issue of documentation has come up again. I happen to personally agree that adequate documentation is one of the game's few weak points, but documentation takes time and effort itself to write, and SQUAD may have other priorities that take precedence in their development cycle. That said, until such a time as SQUAD sees fit to ship the game with a manual or a more robust tutorial system, I personally will strive to encourage the community to create quality tutorials and player aids and list the best of those on the Drawing Board Shameless plug, etc.

Moving to the Science Labs, where it might get a little more attention from the right people.

Mission reports from my own Space Program
Specialist290 replied to Akinesis's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
I'm running out of unique ways to say "Nicely done!" ...That being said, nicely done! -
Sadly, no, at least not in the stock game. Anything outside of ~2 kilometers range of the active vessel is unloaded from the physics engine and put "on-rails," meaning it only exists as a data point until the game needs to load it into the physics engine again.

transmission loss
Specialist290 replied to urbansys's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
As of the current version, data transmission doesn't require a satellite network, nor does creating one make your transmissions more efficient at sending data. That may or may not change as the game's development goes forward, but exactly how that's going to work out if it happens is all up to speculation. -
Show off your awesome KSP pictures!
Specialist290 replied to NuclearWarfare's topic in KSP Fan Works
Indeed they do: -
Most of the ones I was going to mention as candidates already have been, so I'm going to go with a few that haven't: For the most part, some of the most complex games I've played are probably those published by Paradox Interactive -- Crusader Kings and its sequel, Europa Universalis and its sequels, Victoria, Hearts of Iron, etc. They have a knack for making world-level strategy games with simple, (mostly) intuitive mechanics that interact in complex ways. They've been some of my favorite games to play, in part because I'm a self-admitted history nerd who likes the opportunity to "change history" after a fashion.

my idea's for ksp
Specialist290 replied to Roderik's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Thread closed at user's request. -
I like the idea. I'll have to take a look at this later tonight, when my bandwidth restrictions relax a little. EDIT: And now that I've had the opportunity to watch said video, I have to say that it's very well done. You give a very clear and comprehensive explanation of a number of basic and useful features in a quick and concise video. There are a few things I might have explained a little more thoroughly (though I'd imagine you're saving those for the "Next Fifteen Minutes" video and whatever follows that), but I'd have no misgivings about recommending this video in its current state to a new player myself

Yes. Yes I am. (EDIT: ...Hehe, just gonna let this one stand ) The user below me joined the forums after I did.
