What is Delta/v?

To put it yet another way: Imagine you have a rocket standing still in a perfect vacuum, with no other forces acting on it. If your rocket has 1000 m/s of delta-v, then if you fire the engines in one continuous burn without changing your heading, your rocket will be moving at 1000 m/s in the direction you're pointed once you empty the tank. If you only burn half of your fuel, you'll be moving at 500 m/s; if you flip the rocket around and burn the rest of your fuel against your direction of travel, you'll come to a complete stop again. Wernher von Kerman has , and I'd also highly recommend reading these three pages over at Atomic Rockets if you want to know more about how to calculate the delta-v capability of your rockets yourself. -
I for one would be willing to give it a shot. These are the guys who did ARMA and Operation Flashpoint, after all; they've always been known for attention to detail.

Glad to hear it! Helping new players find the information they need quickly has always been the main goal of the list. That said, without the knowledge, dedication, and eagerness of many more experienced players, there would be nothing to list here, so I'd like to take this moment to thank everyone who has taken the time to create their own tutorials and make them available to others.

Questions on Docking

How far apart in orbit are they? If you're close enough (I'd say within about ~10km or so), then yeah, you should be able to get a small amount of thrust going in the direction of your target that will let you drift closer. -
Sorry for the unannounced hiatus, all. Both burnout on KSP and real life-related issues left me with little motivation to really pay much attention to this for a while. However, with 0.21 recently released, I've gotten back into the groove a little, and I should start reviewing a few of the more recently-written tutorials to add to the list over the next few days.

I used to be absolutely addicted to the old Red Baron back in the days when everything was on floppy disks. I don't remember ever living through the entire war, but I generally gave as good as I got on my missions. Another one I really loved was Silent Thunder, where you piloted an A-10 "Warthog" on various ground attack missions. I did alright, although I only ever used Mavericks and FAE bombs (talk about overkill, re: the latter). Also bashed around a bit on Freelancer and Oolite (a remake of the old classic Elite), as well as a few others I have sadly forgotten. I'd like to get into War Thunder, but my shoddy internet connection won't let me

You say it looks boring. I think it's beautifully symmetrical. Also, the comparison between Soyuz / Salyut and Shenzhou / Tiangong is even more obvious from the silhouettes in the second image.

Believe it or not, I go by the same name over there as I do over here I haven't posted there in a while myself, actually. I remember being a huge fan of "Learning Protestantism with Livonia" back in the day, which is how I recognized the name.

At any rate, since you're new to the game, I'd highly recommend that you take a look at the Drawing Board (link in my sig), which has links to a number of tutorials, including some created specifically for new players. Feel free to also ask questions in the How To forums if you ever get stuck on anything. Happy landings!

Welcome to the forums! I'll agree that KSP is one of the harder games to put down when you first get into it. I've hit a few "burnout" cycles before so I try to cut back on it a little now, but I still came back to it even after the first "burnout," which in my opinion is the mark of a truly great game. If you run into any snags while you're learning how the game works, my own recommendation for your first stop would be the Drawing Board (link in my sig), which has a number of useful tutorials and other tools. Feel free to ask questions in the How To section as well, as many of the people who frequently post there are quite knowledgeable. Happy landings!

So the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation wasn't actually German? Huh. Then again, it wasn't actually Holy, Roman, or an empire either (according to Voltaire), so that's not too surprising. But I digress. How's progress on the PfL front going? -
Seconding TAC Fuel Balancer. Don't know if it's been updated for 0.20 yet, but I'd highly recommend it for allowing you to balance the fuel in multiple groups of fuel tanks at once.

Welcome to the forums! On top of all the things Voidryder has already said, I'd highly recommend that you check out the Drawing Board (link in my sig) for some reference materials you can use to improve your vehicles. The tutorials won't always give you specific instructions along the lines of "Always do this!", but you can always apply what you learn to make your rockets better. Happy landings!

1st Minmus Landing - Everybody Has to Start Somewhere

Nicely done! The "ASAS hill trick" is actually a new one for me, but that's mostly because I've never actually tried landing on a steep slope if I could help it (and not necessarily because my landing site picking skillz are that good, mind you; I've had to go all "full throttle panic" for more hillside landings than I care to count ). And Minmus is definitely a great place for a beginner's landing. It's actually a little more forgiving than the Mun once you get out there. Low-gravity antics are fun, too, especially if you make a rover breakdance. -

Welcome to the forums! As far as interplanetary travel goes, I'd highly recommend taking a look at some of the tutorials and other resources in the Drawing Board (link in my sig). If you're having trouble designing a ship to get you where you need to go, or if you need more specific pointers about getting to a particular destination, you can always ask the fine people who hang out in the How To section. ASAS doesn't stack; an ASAS module is probably best thought of as a sort of Master Control Computer that governs all other forms of attitude control (engine gimbals, SAS, pod torque gyros, stabilizing fins, RCS, etc.) in maintaining a given heading. The only reason to have multiple ASAS units on a craft is if you plan on having two modules capable of independent operation from one another.
