My favorite side effect of this happened when I was testing the Hitchhiker on the pad. I built a ship with just a probe core and the Hitchhiker, and of course KCT loaded it with Jeb, Bill, Bob, and Val. My first instinct was to clear them all out, but instead, I decided to let them stay in. Launchpad Party!

Not necessarily - you might be able to get an engineer with a spare chute up there to rendezvous (unless it's a long way and you're using TACLS - or if you're using TACLS and KCT and you don't have another ship in storage).

[1.10.0] Final Frontier - kerbal individual merits 1.10.0-3485
Gryphon replied to Nereid's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
That sounds like a real stinker. I understand you have it installed in Kerbal Space Program\GameData\Nereid\FinalFrontier right? If so, I can only suggest redownloading it and reinstalling it. Also: What other mods do you have installed? Have you looked at the output_log.txt? Perhaps there's an obvious error there, especially if it is failing to load FF at all. -

[KSP v1.1.3] Stock Bug Fix Modules (Release v1.1.3b.1 - 10 Jul 16)
Gryphon replied to Claw's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I've copied a bit from the SBFM readme, included in the install: Basically, the Stock Bug Fixes ... fix bugs in stock KSP. StockPlus features make KSP a little better in several areas related to the bug fixes. StockPlus is off by default. -

[old thread] Trajectories : atmospheric predictions
Gryphon replied to Youen's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I'd change the thread title to include something like 1.0.2 (FAR req'd.) or (FAR only) Also, if you have a link to Trajectories v1.2.0, but the title says [0.90], then people will assume that v1.2.0 is the version to use for KSP 0.90. I presume that v1.1.3 is still the latest for 0.90, right? @WaveFunctionP: Not really, it just adds a temporary dependency that wasn't there before. For example, KAS requires KIS. FAR and DRE require ModularFlightIntegrator. Many mods require ModuleManager. Some dependencies are packaged with the mod, others aren't. No big, except that people who don't read the whole OP (or otherwise keep up on the thread) might not realize that the dependency is there (which I understand, because they might have previous expectations). -
I don't think I started using RT until 0.25. As I recall, that was shortly after some older antennae got deprecated in favor of newer ones. If so, I understand why that would throw you. Anyway, if your outbound craft doesn't have any burns planned until it has 1.1Mm of separation from Kerbin, then the loss of signal won't matter all that much. Better, If the craft is equatorial to Kerbin, then I believe you should still get a window of connectivity each Kerbin day as KSC passes through the cone.

[1.3.1] Ferram Aerospace Research: v0.15.9.1 "Liepmann" 4/2/18
Gryphon replied to ferram4's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
CKAN is just fine for people who use it, but I think it's best to add an additional bug chasing step of "reinstall the mod outside of CKAN" before reporting an issue. As an added note, I suggested (in the CKAN thread) that they show who is maintaining CKAN metadata for a mod, and pjf agreed that was a good idea, so I presume that will be added at some point, thus allowing CKAN users to inform the right person if there's an issue there.- 14,073 replies

As I described above, the Player's Guide says: Cone Diameter 0.06° Cone covers Kerbin at 1,100,000 km Cone covers keosynchronous orbit at 6,600,000 km Sure, you could just wait until you are far enough away for the cone to open up, OR you could just point at a specific target, such as KSC or a specific satellite. You DO NOT need to point at Kerbin. The reason for pointing at Kerbin or some other celestial body is so that your connection is not dependent on line of sight to that specific target. I also use the short range dish, the DTS-M1, targeted at Kerbin on my keosynchronous comm sats to provide total comms coverage of low orbit. Oh, and once you have a handle on cone targets vs. point targets, you will want to look at switching your RangeModelType to the Root Range model. I think it makes your antennae feel more realistic, because you can use a big dish to reach out to an omni at a much longer range than with omni to omni - more like real life.
-
I'll just go for the bonus points directly. Have you looked at Universal Storage? One of their current parts is a surface attached O2 tank.
-
If you point at a precise target, like a ship or KSC, you don't have to worry about the cone, just the range. if you point at a celestial body, then the cone matters. The RemoteTech player guide will give you guidance on what dish antennae are appropriate for a given range from Kerbin, with the "Cone covers Kerbin at" and "Cone covers keosynchronous orbit at" entries. https://remotetechnologiesgroup.github.io/RemoteTech/guide/parts/#dish-antennas

[old thread] Trajectories : atmospheric predictions

This is something we'd all like, but there's been several discussions that it's exceedingly difficult to make this happen, sooo I wouldn't expect it any time soon. -
[1.12.*] Deadly Reentry v7.9.0 The Barbie Edition, Aug 5th, 2021
Gryphon replied to Starwaster's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I really hope everyone would just chill. I think there's some miscommunication here that is accelerating into anger. nuclearping, I've seen Ser posting lots of really helpful stuff both here and in other threads, so he's not just some troll. I think your real question is, how do I get these tourists back safely. I'd help, but I haven't even been out of low Kerbin orbit yet in KSP 1.0. All I know is too shallow = bad heat, too steep = bad G's. I had a ship burn up during an extended run at 55000m because I made my gravity turn too aggressive, so the atmosphere is definitely there at upper altitudes. Ser, I don't think nuclearping is complaining that he's exploding, I think he just wants someone to help him understand what is a survivable reentry profile to use with the current DRE, because his current (and previously successful) method isn't working. arkie87, nuclearping has a whole other problem than you. I hope the suggestion of using the updated build has helped you. Also, what version of FAR are you using? I know there's been plenty of recent discussion of how the previous version of FAR was interacting with DRE. The latest FAR version is named "Ferri," and includes lots of bugfixes (though there's a new issue already identified with at least the Mk2 cargo bay).- 5,919 replies

Also, it means I end up learning about scientists who contributed to our knowledge of aerodynamics. Remember, you can just remove the symmetry fix and leave the others active.- 14,073 replies

First, it is the standard of etiquette (by my observation) that in the KSP forums, that you should do the minimum of at least reading a few pages back in the thread to see if your question has already been answered. Second, I really don't think any of those three replies were "biting their head off," and the original comment that lead to this discussion was merely, "Sigh." That's really mild. The replies were direct, explained the issue, and avoided any personal attacks. Third, I don't believe that three people said the same thing. goldenpsp gave details, I showed the scope of the issue, and ObsessedWithKSP confirmed. Fourth, I took the effort of looking back through the thread to count up all the times that question had been asked (and answered) as a gentle attempt to inform Cattasraafe (and others who might be wondering) about why his question might cause a "sigh," in a precise, quantifiable way. If you think about it, you'll recognize I went to more effort to explain the "sigh" to him than he did to induce it. Fifth, we aren't getting paid to help, we're just other users helping out for the fun of it, and constantly answering the same questions might also dissuade the KNOWLEDGEABLE users from responding to requests for assistance. I'm sure you'll agree that would be a problem, too.

[1.12.x] Connected Living Space v2.0.2.0 (12 Feb 2022)
Gryphon replied to Papa_Joe's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
It's not SUPER over permissive, after all, Gemini-B was designed to have a hatch in the heat shield to allow the astronauts access to the lab area which launched below the capsule. See Manned Orbiting Laboratory on Wikipedia -
The sigh wasn't for you personally, it because you are the 19th person who has posted with this same issue before looking back over the last few pages to see the numerous similar reports and the solution provided to each of them. (Yeah, I actually went back and counted them.)

Universal Storage 1.4.0.0 (For KSP 1.4.x) 13th March 2018
Gryphon replied to Paul Kingtiger's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Have you considered using the EVA-X backpack? It is also surface mountable, and it contains a balanced breakfast for all your life support needs. It's provided by Universal Storage and is available once you research Advanced Exploration.
