This monstrousity took ages to make. It looks kind of slapped together but it drives pretty well and provides a home for up to 13 Kerbals. I haven't managed to get it to space yet.

That's a very nice looking rocket, Gusturbo. Looks quite efficient too.

While it's generally useful, if you're building something oddly shaped, the way you need to attatch things to the first part you place and how you can only place things on something connected to that first piece, well sometimes that system makes it very difficult or impossible to do something how you want it.

You think zilch to man on the moon in 10 years is baby steps?
-
Isn't this subforum for exchanging craft? I just wanted to see what people have made, I didn't see it as much different to the "What did you do today" or "show off your rover" types of threads in general discussion...

Wasn't the Halo TV series the only thing people were excited about when they revealed the XBOX one? But anyway, for KSP, no. It doesn't have a big enough market and it's sandbox based, not story based.

Because of the lack of realistic aerodynamics and limited part choices, KSP rockets tend to be rather un-aerodynamic. What are the best ones you've made that would probably actually be pretty good. Here's mine. The payload is obviously not aerodynamic at all, but the launcher is. It's 2 stage. What it's carrying is close to it's limit but it can achieve a stable 100km orbit. If someone who knew what they were doing was doing it, maybe they could lift more. I kind of wish there was a wider tank type so I could make something bigger without worrying about where I'm going to fit the engines and whether or not it can hold the weight of the upper stages without exploding (this was an issue in my design when I had another small tank on the second stage).

Yeah, I think it's silly sometimes, my game probably runs about 4-7fps launching a medium-smallish rocket. It's not optimal, but it's hardly gamebreaking. I certainly wouldn't complain if I got 5fps on a 700+ part base.
-
Oh, 700 parts, how tiny!
-
Just wondering. There are some mods that feel like they should (perhaps with minor alterations) be part of the game. Some just are natural fits, utilities that will probably be in the game eventually anyway. Why don't developers ask the modders if they can have the mods added to the core game? It would allow them more time to develop things that mods can't provide.

They don't NOW, but China's space projects are pretty new and they won't be on the moon, let alone going to Mars, for a little while yet. The SLS is underway, and if that fails, there's always SpaceX, so they won't need to use other countries to get to space in the future. And we didn't have anything in the first space race either, in fact that was the whole deal. Nobody did, and then VERY QUICKLY, both the US and Russia did. Because there was motive for the government to give a crap.
-
Hang on, if the US see China land on the moon and then plan to go to Mars, we might have a second space race on our hands.
-
Hm... now I think about it I guess that is true, because the ISS, though having modules from a bunch of countries, is not made solely by that country.
-
Pretty sure the reason for the decay is that it IS in the atmosphere. High up in a low density part of it, sure, but it still has some atmospheric drag. It needs to be boosted now and then to stop it from reentering.

Jupiter has way too strong gravity for cities, but any other gas giant would do. On Jupiter, your city might float, but you'd be crushed.
-
They seem really excited about about something many other countries have done. It's good and all, but I can't imagine banners going up in the streets in the US when not terribly revolutionary orbital procedures are completed, but maybe I'm wrong.
-
Vesta? But that's not a planet, it's an asteroid. Maybe Dwarf planet, I think there is a little bit of debate about that.
-
I like that they made it look like stop motion. I just like that aesthetic. Would be neat if it was really stop motion though, just because I find the process cool. From the trailer this movie looks okay. Some funny things but the main guy is kind of annoying.

Sounds to me like they're killing the rare benefits of getting a console over a PC. Honestly, I miss the days where there were no game installations and no online stuff. What can I say? I liked the old days when I put Crash Team Racing into the console and immediately began to play with my friends at my house, no questions asked. So simple.

Manned Mars Mission and terminal illnes

In that case there should have been no reason for you to make that incorrect assumption about the reasons for my objections. -
Got to agree with Spaceman Spiffy. Jupiter is like a giant space playground. So many awesome crazy moons. However, if we're not talking about moons at all, just the planet surface, then really I guess Earth is, but since we've had thousands of years to explore it (while we were a civilised species), Mars is probably the next one. The many ways it is similar and different to Earth, the geological features we're studying, all quite fascinating. Venus is pretty cool too, but it's scary. But again, if you take moons into the question, Jupiter. I mean seriously, the Gallilean moons are amazing. They look like the sort of thing that could only be invented by a science fiction writer.

Yeah, but again, why do it? It just adds uncertainty to the mission and trauma to the crew. -

I explained all this in my first post. It's a cruel and unnecessary thing to do, especially when you've got no live contact except with the few other people around you. They may be able to remain functioning, that doesn't make it any less of a horrible thing to do to them.
