  1. All they've got is a sort of demi-timeline, where a clip has it's length visualisation made by rounding (not accurate length). You can't pull back the beginnings and ends of the clip, you have to go through and cut with the edit mode. I have no clue why they have it like this. Older versions had a proper timeline and a slideshow mode. Both were better at their respective jobs interfacewise then the current way it's done.
  2. Why would you bother making it go into a 90 minute orbit? If you've managed to bring a massive black hole to the Earth, it's already dead.
  3. WMM is a glorified slideshow maker. The worst thing, though, is that it used to be a DECENT editor (albeit limited to common consumer formats of the day), and then they simplified it and simultaneously made it less intuitive. A video editor without a timeline? What the hell is that?
  4. Um... 3D printing. I'm pretty sure small metal parts are fairly simple to print with modern or at least near future printers.
  5. I had a dream last night where I was in a library and found the book I read this in in a donations bin. I don't think it was actually the book I found it in because it was a big thickish black covered book all about spacecraft, and I never had one of those. Just in the dream I thought it was. Weird.
  6. I tried Sony Vegas/Sony Movie Studio for a while. I think I recall it's under $100. It took a little getting used to, but it's actually pretty great, at least based on the time I used it for. Trial ran out of course. A lot of other people reccomend it too. I've looked for a good freeware editor for ages. They were all utter garbage, almost completely unusable. There were a few that were semi-usable, but still very annoying to use and barely more capable than movie maker (when it still had the timeline). Finally I was reccomended one called lightworks which has a free version. It has an ugly and somewhat irritating interface but would seem to be quite capable and has a lot of good features. Only problem is that (despite having a 1080p monitor) my coputer refuses to let me go to 1080p and the main toolbar gets stuck in the middle of the screen sticking up through the top and it won't let me move it so I can't use all the features (It did go to the left ONCE, so that's how I know I was missing important features that were only found on the toolbar), including some fairly basic ones. If I could fix up the toolbar, then it seems like this would be the best program to use. It has, apparently, a very good timeline system, can control output settings, has some effects and all those sort of things. Look into it at least. I'm planning on buying Sony movie studio when I get a new computer, which will be later in the year most likely.
  7. 4th of July... that's old news! For me, it's been the 5th of July for over an hour.
  8. No, the it says it hasn't been sent and when I contacted the seller they said they could not see the payment record.
  9. I have a problem with ebay I was wondering if I could get some advice for. I committed to buy an item several weeks ago and paid right away. A few weeks later it still is processing by Paypal, so I contacted the seller about it. They said they couldn't see the payment record in ebay, and asked for my personal email adress so they could send me the payment request. Of course transactions outside of ebay are not allowed and they might be faudulent, so I haven't replied to the email. The only thing I can find about cancelling purchases on ebay says I have to ask the seller and it's up to them. What if I ask and they say no, I have to pay? I can't pay outside of ebay. I don't want anything happening to my account either (It can be limited or suspended if you don't pay for things you committed to buy. It's not like they've sent the item or anything. What can I do?
  10. So how did they test it? Did they record high resolution video of hundreds of people's heads while asleep for years at a time and watched every video through to see how many times a spider crawled in?
  11. Don't know if it really qualifies as proper scifi, but the Doctor, currently my favourite is the 7th, then 11th.
  12. I think you might find the source is actually CGPGrey, because that's exactly what he said, but on his followup video searching for the source he explained that it was a joke.
  13. I'm guessing you're joking with the same thing as CGPgrey, right? Spiders, like most invertebrates, will usually do their best to avoid breathing things, because they tend to eat them.
  14. Ah, okay. Makes sense. I must be remembering what the book said wrong. I can't find it anywhere, must have thrown it out years ago. This was when I was somewhere between 5 and 10. And yeah, it doesn't really make much sense. Why even bother making it like a plane if it needs help landing. I guess I only didn't question it for a long time because I'd thought I'd known it since I was little. Just an incredible brain fail. Like that eating 8 spiders in your sleep a year thing, doesn't really make much sense when you think about it.
  15. I meant to get to Venus. Isn't that actually rather difficult?
  16. If you have enough thrust to send Earth that far out of it's way, I'm sure whatever you made the thrust with would be enough to blow it up.
  17. I mean we could destroy the crust with nuclear bombs, but would that count as obliterating the entire planet? What if we (Inspired by the moving the Earth thread, but easier!) blasted nuclear bombs retrograde on the moon and caused it to veer it's course enough to collide with the Earth?
  18. When I was younger I had a book that had some stuff about the space shuttle and it said that it needed a 747 to land, but I've also seen images of the shuttle landing itself. Why did it need this sometimes and not other times?
  19. Wait, if the Shuttle/Buran are about 100 tons with payload each, the launcher must actually be really powerful. Why is it not possible to adapt that launcher to a payload that's not the shuttle and just cap the tank off at the top?
  20. I was exxagerating, but it does seem there is little interest, and I don't think it should be forced.
  21. Vomit Comet is so temporary though..., what if want it for your whole movie?
  22. It's efficient if they need to blend in with grass or Cacti.
  23. What's so hard about developing a green pigment? Lizards did it. Snakes did it. Fish did it. Frogs did it.
  24. I know about the Space Oddity video and things like that, but what I mean is a major fictional motion picture or short film. No way to do zero G like actual zero G. Do you think we might someday see a film made on a space station, maybe even one brought up specially as a set. Sounds kind of crazy, but you never know, if some visionary director/producer gets the idea in his head in 30 or so years time and is willing to put effort in it. Maybe the set could be built to then be used as an actual station or ship so it is dual purposed. This is probably just silly, but a man can dream.
  25. So sick of Youtube forcing me to do things. They've finally given up on the trying to force people to use their real names unless they have a very good reason (How about "I care about my personal privacy like a normal human being" or "I just like the god damn name I'm using" or "Your privacy policy actually tells us NOT to use our real names"?) but now they want to force you into joining google plus which nobody cares about or wants. And the new channels which we got to "choose" whether we wanted to try them out are now mandatory, so no more featured video, only an "ad" to non-subscribers. And even though it should be your space we're going to advertise popular channels (yeah, because they're the ones that need advertising) along the borders of your channel. If Youtube wasn't far and away the best site to use for getting people to see your videos, I wouldn't use it. If there was some big boycott Youtube for something else movement that managed to gain momentum, I'd join it. They never listen to feedback and are just abusing users to make it the most effient advertising and self promotion platform while taking away convenience and personalisation.
