A work horse for placing things and attaching items to orbiting craft as well as refueling has been my D-Truck rocket. Here it is refueling one of my ships above Kerbin. Here is a small list of variations to the rocket to meet a need or challenge. http://i.imgur.com/DLzcKfI.jpg The basic rocket. http://i.imgur.com/ySTaXzr.jpg The rocket with a nuclear engine to deliver to same orbiting craft earlier. http://i.imgur.com/uGzL0uk.jpg Being made ready to deliver housing for the kerbals. http://i.imgur.com/uGzL0uk.jpg D-Truck in its refueling configuration. It can deliver about 90% of one Orange fuel tank with the new mid range engine attached. http://i.imgur.com/Gz6Fwsn.jpg I am ready to figure out how to post craft files. When I have that figure out I will try to post a non add-on version. Most of these rockets are non add-on with the exception of MechJeb to help in finding and docking with other craft. BJ.Quest A closer view of the "truck" craft in version .21.1 6 mainsail engines and 1 skipper engine. Engine run sequence 6, 4, 3(including the skipper) then the skipper on its own. This get the rocket in orbit to do what it is assigned to do in good fashion. :-) BJQ

A tight squeeze but the third engine was installed on the SS Wilderness. The ship holds 9 kerbals. Developed an 11 passenger ship to haul kerbals up into orbit to dock with ships (called greyhound). That worked well. Adding the last housing unit before a test run for the ship and the two single place landers. BJ Quest

SS Umatilla long range ship Prepping the Umatilla with refueling from the Super Tanker. It takes 8 to 10 trips to refill. Lost some kerbal crews in the testing of the tanker. :-( Attaching crew quarters and landers is next on the Umatilla's list. Biggest operational ships to date.

The beginnings of the deep space explorer "Wilderness". Attaching fuel tanks for a long...... mission. BJ Quest

Finely a docking that went very well !!! (although automated) I have added landing legs to the fuel tanker. Landing at KSP#1 should be no problem after transfer of fuel. Docking has been the hardest part of the game for me. Now for bigger stations and deep space explorer ship with enough fuel for those missions.

There are several ways I delver a rover. http://i.imgur.com/lTni9p0.png%5B/IMG http://i.imgur.com/suzKIGe.png http://i.imgur.com/F1nPRoI.jpg%5B/IMG http://i.imgur.com/xQrORzi.png Mostly 2 rovers mounted on the side of a ship then decouple at landing zone. Not all were successful. http://i.imgur.com/Je7I3jK.png%5B/IMG BJ Quest

I like the idea's around Lost/abandon ships. Remains of ruin cities. Perhaps abandon outposts. Caves. Old Power plants. Abandon research stations (Perhaps allowing for more useful/advance technology/parts to be used in the game). Mountain top cabins? Having done some surveying (Civil Engineering) in the past perhaps some geographic markers on some of the planets/moons like the orgional four markers in the US of which the Willamette stone is one. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willamette_Stone . The Willamette Stone is in the west hills of Portland Oregon. I have been there. It is kind of neat to know and visit the history of how things were and are done. The start point for US maps etc : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beginning_Point_of_the_U.S._Public_Land_Survey . A Kerbin Greenwich Observatory ?? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenwich BJ Quest

I like the fuel ship and the lander :-) Do you use the KAS for fuel lines or something else? -BJ Quest -

A newer, smaller Kethane miner/explorer ready for operational test in KSP v2.02. Using the larger drill. Operational test on Minmus went well. The big drill rate is great! I did add small Kethane tanks (4) before launch as well as 4 small fuel tanks on the bottom of the outside tanks. The Nuke engines make for a long burn time but the rate should get me to the other planets. It is refilled and ready to go. Targeting a landing site is nice too :-) http://i.imgur.com/A4Q1rtn.png BJ Quest -
Box Craft2 Rover Testing out the rover and delivery system. Working fine. :-) http://i.imgur.com/wuZ943g.png http://i.imgur.com/8XPglMT.jpg Operation Test on the Mun (Taking it out for a spin) http://i.imgur.com/7O0GW6k.jpg http://i.imgur.com/B7WbUeo.png http://i.imgur.com/28NuOLT.png Landing was a little close... but no problems :-) BJ Quest

Just loaded the KSP 2.02 and Kethane software. I have been using the mining in KSP v19. So far good. Mapped Kerbin and Mun. The hexagon mapping is interesting. It may will lead to better choices of picking landing sites for ships that land, mine and continue on it makes sense. http://i.imgur.com/NCFFnos.png I wonder if the "art" of mapping by choice of altitude is diminished a bit. This is not a complaint just a thought. I will play with it as time permits. Nicely done. - BJ Quest

Presented the KSP to educators in a Aerospace summer workshop yesterday (A fill in presentation). My Kerbals made it to orbit and back safely. Designed and built Rescue-3 (Single capsule on top of the three person capsule). It made orbit in good fashion, to Minmus, Landed and back. All kerbals made it back in one piece after a EVA walk on Minmus and tearing off one solar panel by over zealous use of the backpack thrusters. A good day :-) http://i.imgur.com/Li5nl55.jpg http://i.imgur.com/cT85HmA.jpg BJ Quest.

Added Micro rovers to b-car ship: Added strobes and lights to rescue one and two. Rescue One orbiting Mun and Rescue Two orbiting Minmus. Designed a small kethane portable miner "Keth Spark" for small vehicle refueling - Not tested yet. Intend to attach 2 to a ship like b-car or like for transport to Mun, Minmus, etc. BJ Quest

That is a BIG Ship It took me 2 ship/miners to deplete one kethane field ... so I had to move on to another field to complete the refill. The KSL-1A landing at a second site: KSL-1A and KSL-1B are both refiled and orbiting Minmus ready for the next step. At the moment 2 BIG ships are enough for current mission(s) :-) PS: It took 5 sunrises to complete the refills. A bit slow but acceptable. BJ Quest -

KE-2 "Prospector" and KSL-1 (Kethane Ship Large) Two ships that can travel to Minmus (and beyond). Locate fuel deposits, Land, Mine, Fuel up and move on to the next planet, etc. The KSL-1 is designed to locate, mine and fill up passing ships, Etc. Both have successfully been lanced and been mining on Minmus. I intend to take the KE2 "Prospector" to other planetary objects very soon and see how far I can get. KE-2 Prospector KSL-1 Launching from Kerbin http://i.imgur.com/ACmLq13.jpg http://i.imgur.com/47DDJ1Q.png PS: Thanks for all the posts and good Idea's - I am enjoying all that has been shared in this thread. :-) BJ Quest -

With the Kethane mining on the rocket itself.... Nicely done. I have been thinking of doing this. How well is this work? Is the 90% conversion unit worth using on smaller rockets used in similar configurations? Suggestions in design of such a rocket? Thanks - BJ Quest -

My first Kethane Mun mining operation: Version 1.9 been waiting for the update on Kethane and IAS work with version 2.0 I have mining operations on the Mun and Minmus. I have been thinking of using Minmus as a big space station and landing large spacecraft there for fuel refill before heading off for other planets. I have not tested this yet (waiting for some updates for some add on's to try in v2.0). To accomplish refueling I align small docking parts and have fuel-trucks(rovers) with KAS winches on them to attach to ships. It has been working fine. As a note: This delivery ship was not able to refuel but later designs were. http://i.imgur.com/tgDHY63.png My Mun mining base with ships that have been refueled: http://i.imgur.com/OoEeTgZ.jpg BJ Quest -
The Micro-Bug: 10 parts without the fuel drop attached :-) With Fuel Attachment parts. Add MechJeb (some time soon) and it can be dropped at any coordinate. http://i.imgur.com/xQrORzi.png The blue decouple ring slides off with a little acceleration/breaking. I Like it :-) BJ Quest Smaller Yet - "The Flea" 7 part count :-)

The Micro Recon Vehicle: MRV-1 I Like It. - I printed the picture of it to recreate the rover. It looks lite it would be easy to mount to the side of a lander and then deploy. Good name for it :-) BJ Quest

What are some of the unique and usual rover deployment systems you have created? I have mounted a rover vertical on a lander, Tipped the lander over then detached the rover (not so unusual?). Mounted a rover horizontal on a lander, lowered the rover gear then decoupled the rover which popped up and then drove the rover off the lander. The Latest problem solving method is in a story format where Jedediah was practicing delivering small 4 place rover cars with a few problems :-) Decoupling one of the rovers http://i.imgur.com/TP6PODW.png Runaway rover......, Forgot to set the break before dropping the rover to the ground http://i.imgur.com/suzKIGe.png Decouple and remover I beam attachment so Jedediah can climb down and retrieve the rover. http://i.imgur.com/Pxf5GQ9.png Jedediah running after the rover...a little exercise... http://i.imgur.com/LGDk4gc.png Rover retrieved and heading back to the ship...No docking the pay check today. http://i.imgur.com/6DGlTOw.png Decoupling the other I beam to make ready the flight back. http://i.imgur.com/Yjlx51i.png Exiting from the back seat can tip the rover over...well turn around and push it back upright. http://i.imgur.com/lWvWo1W.png Rover is upright again...Little damage.. hopefully no docking of pay. jumping and use of backpack helped Jedediah to get out of the back seat (Front seat driving is preferred!). http://i.imgur.com/GRI03zn.png Time to board the ship..Head for home before anything other mishaps :-) http://i.imgur.com/4v2RNvK.png Another method of dropping rovers. May not work on other planets but does get ride of unwanted parts. Enjoy - BJ Quest
