Yup Cubesat...first time I realized that I actually CAN'T design spacecraft all that well. -

You Will Not Go To Space Today - Post your fails here!
SDIR replied to Mastodon's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Trying to launch a moderate sized interplanetary ship for Jool on one rocket is very hard to do. Most notably because of the struts needed, and the part count: ^Just the first try. Okay, now, try adding more struts. ...more struts -
Can you return from all of them?

Sorry if someone already asked, this, but how does it work on Duna? I thought atmospheric engines didn't work on Duna.

Nice shuttle. I was hoping to create my own STS style shuttle, but I still need to fiddle with the center of mass (I found a way to basically keep it constant) and the instability of the shuttle on a glider landing. I've also been trying to create my own Dream Chaser shuttle, but for sever kerbals instead.

Very interesting. I might fly a probe or a rover there to explore some time.

Rocket spinning crazily out of control?
SDIR replied to YourEverydayWaffle's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
There's one thing I've noticed regarding high powered engines in KSP. If you don't strut them properly, sometimes they will actually shift sideways on the fuel tank and screw up your center of thrust (i.e. shift it up, down, left or right). Try strutting your mailsail to the fuel tank and see if that solves your problem. -
Parachutes not working

A couple well-lit screen shots would be great. Is there anything attached to the pod, or is it just the capsule? Also, what body are you landing on? -
Decouplers taking off everything else around it
SDIR replied to Man Voyage's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Check to see if your staging is in the correct order...sometimes KSPs auto stage formatting tends to screw things up. Also, a little of patience and co-operation is appreciated around here. It may be days before your problem is fully solved. -
You also have to be in profile that is in career mode tov gain science

You can also think of it as there is only a small storage device capable of holding only one crew report, and one storage bin only capable of holding a single sample.

I know. It brings up the paint window, but the part evidently does not change colour when I select it in the window. Also, it would be nice if someone could make a youtube video. Edit: My bad, it turns out that Kerbpaint doesn't work well with some mod managers. But I seem to have found some problems with the Solid Rocket Booster.

I've never had a true collision but I've had several near misses with my tugs where after doing the burn to escape Mun orbit I nearly hit the payloads I had just delivered. With kerbals in them.

In my experience, the LV-Ns are definitely worth it if you can refuel them and reuse the vechicle. I have a tug system where basically a tug can make a round trip to Minmus without even having to use half of its fuel. But for planetary landings like Duna, it's best to use the 909's since you don't need too much power. A good combination would be a large mothership with LV-Ns for traveling to other planets while having a separate lander that uses 909's to land and take off.

On Eve, that will be a real challenge. Unless you are using mods like Firespitter that use electric props, I don't think it's possible. So far the only "boats" that I've seen are either jet powered or use rockets but have a very short range before needing to be filled up. And to make it float and go fast, attach some fins pointing down. Then attach some of the large control surfaces pointing in the direction you want (the narrow ends) to move. That should give you enough buoyancy to keep you afloat and provide little friction.

How do you learn to dock in a COUPLE OF WEEKS??? And that ship looks pretty nice. Looks like it could act as a sort of inter-body base, able to jump from place to place. And I agree, nukes would be good. But it may be easier to just re-use the ship you have on Minmus now and just use a nuclear powered tug instead. That way if you make it to Jool or Duna, you can hop around each of the moons without worrying about fuel all that much; and you can also put that large docking port to use as well.

I'm not really interested in joining the company, but I'd like to offer some of my airplane designs. -
[Showcase] Replica Craft thread!
SDIR replied to Mr. Pseudonym's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Wait, how did this go from being a showcase to a "Who can make a better Russian fighter" competition? -
You can try using a custom made orion drive. Just make a custom decoupler with 1 million decoupling force and impact tolerance, and turn on joint strengthening (forgot the name of the cheat). Five of those things gave me about 2000 delta-v on a small craft.
