[UNOFFICIAL/FANMADE] 0.21 Discussion thread
SDIR replied to blspblackdeath's topic in KSP1 Discussion
All I care about is that my bases and space stations remain intact, or else I would have to set up rescue missions and rebuild them (which I don't actually mind that much, I just treat it as if a time-space quake just happened) -
Also, most space craft are completely automated (in terms of maneuvering) so what NASA is doing is basically turning on a very large Mechjeb and letting the computers fly the crafts. I so far have no heard of any modern space craft with a stick and throttle.
-
Now that I have a wider screen, maybe KSP and either some modding or the forum. But usually I plan my next few maneuvers while burning.

[UNOFFICIAL/FANMADE] 0.21 Discussion thread
SDIR replied to blspblackdeath's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I want the new SAS system so badly, it would fix all of my rocket launches and make flying shuttles a million times easier! -
Sounds interesting. Are we allowed to use copious amounts of ion engines then?
-
I mostly use SAS on probe craft for docking maneuvers
-
Then I'll be posting my shuttle here, as there isn't a thread for shuttles yet :/ Shuttle Simplicity on take off Initiating gravity turn Docked with a space station 3 shuttle versions: Sky 1(Pioneer): http://www./download/m5a8cjtaxmqmaj1/Sky_1_(Pioneer).craft Sky 2 (Simplicity): http://www./download/6e7h3s053sappj2/Sky_2_(Simplicity).craft Sky 3 (Ability): http://www./download/8dablga76l17cdk/Sky_3_(Ability).craft

I have to say, building a shuttle by itself is already difficult, but making it realistic is even harder. Your shuttle Atlantis gave me enough inspiration and motivation to build my own, and looking at your design helped a lot! Keep up your hard work! And @steffen, Jeb should have been in Columbia, since Columbia exploded on take off.
-
Mostly pilot, although I spend egregious amounts of time designing and perfecting things before launching them manually. You should also add a category of stunt man or daredevil or Oppa Jeb style, for those that launch rockets haphazardly and somehow manage to save the crew, as well as grim reaper for killing the crew for fun/not caring about their deaths.

Isn't is possible to just copy one of the current liq fuel tanks and change their resource to solid fuel? And then you. Can stack as many as you want on top of an SRB.

The "You know you're playing a lot of KSP when..." thread
SDIR replied to Phenom Anon X's topic in KSP1 Discussion
When you start using math, derivatives and integrals to play the game -
Thanks for the tips! Especially purpletarget's isp calculations. I also found out that there was a negligible difference in Isp of 1 between two 24-77s and one aerospike.

[Tutorial] [Video] Krash Test Kerbals - How to "science!"
SDIR replied to purpletarget's topic in KSP1 Tutorials
Math...wait till you have a function within a function so you have to derive a derivative. But still awesome! -
PI was wondering, if you have multiple engines with differnt isps, how would you go about finding out their combined isps? I'm asking because I want to weigh the pros and cons of having an aerospike and two 24-77s or just having a T45 instead.

Long-term Laythe Mission (pic heavy) - ^_^ With Part 45 ^_^
SDIR replied to Brotoro's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
I'd like to see some more stunts by Aldner! -
Any idea of this guy could make a round trip? Cam go to the Mun and return with half of its fuel left over (without using aerobraking)
-
It is possible, I believe Brotoro's done this, but all he did was land a couple kerbals and get them back for a return trip. For anything larger, I think you need docking and refuelling.

Interesting, this site is mostly populated by teenagers like myself.

How to make rovers that dock every time?
SDIR replied to AceMgy's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Try putting landing legs of the same height on both the vehicle and the rover, then extend the legs on one side of the rover while driving forwards to align then. And alternative is to use several RCS blocks on one end or small engines and boost one end up or down. -
Docking parts and frequencies?
SDIR replied to SDIR's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
So far, the problem was that the ASAS correction was moving at the same resonance frequency as the tug and ship. Quicksaving and loading didn't seem to have much of an impact and there were no clipped parts, and only contained one ASAS module. Quantum I struts sounds good though. I might look into doing some file editing, but it would be nice if there was some sort of slider to determine the sensitivity of the ASAS, like tuning it up high for fast corrections and low for something like the avionics package. -
While I was installing two new hab modules for my Mun space station, the tug and one of the modules started wobbling uncontrollably. The wobble did not occur when I had both hab modules attached to the tug, only when one of the modules was already installed and I was repositioning the tug to install the other. Could this be a result of my S.A.S. trying to correct at the frequency of my tug? And is there any way to dampen the wobble?

What line in persistent.sfs specifies part damage?
SDIR replied to Jason_25's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I don't know if there is a line that specifies part damage, but you could try copying the craft file and pasting it into the persistent file where the craft description originally was.
