  1. Today in Latin class our teacher told us about a "Middle Voice" (as opposed to the active or passive voices) that is used to indicate reflexives. She made us copy down a chart and write and memorize the personal endings for this "voice" (-oio, -ois, -oit, -oimur, -oivay, -oiunt), and then told us it doesn't exist (or it does, but only in Greek). I want it to be true, but I shouldn't have fell for it. Not sure whether to be amused or annoyed.
  2. Quick question: If I am using this with Real Solar System, do I need to adjust the signal range for the antennae at all, or are they already set to real values?
  3. I was thinking about this last night, actually. I thought that perhaps we should measure the years since Cleisthenes' reforms to Athens which were the first example of democracy in the world. The calendar would start on January 1, 507 BCE such that we can keep our months, but link the calendar to something that is important to everyone in the developed world.
  4. A quick google search revealed this: http://www.theguardian.com/science/2014/mar/14/gravitational-waves-big-bang-universe-bicep So, perhaps it will be evidence of inflation? Not as exciting as negative energy, but still pretty neat. It's probably a lot more significant than I make it out to be as I have absolutely no idea what this would imply.
  5. I'll toss one or two at Sentar (with all 7 major moons!) once Principia is stable and see what happens. 8-body simulation is bound to be fun. Also, I want to give Kerbin rings.
  6. Sandwiches. I am pretty sure in only a select few cultures has the idea of placing practically anything you can find lying around the house in between two thin slices micro-organism-fermented plant matter become a popular dish.
  7. I just downloaded the game. Do all members of an alliance need to be of the same species? Or can I join regardless of which race I choose?
  8. Would it be possible to remove/add rings to planets? I would rather not have rings around any planet that doesn't, and I would like to add them around PlanetFactory's Sentar. Would this be possible?
  9. I know sometimes it can take a while to upload (especially if you are uploading a large mod such as this). If nothing happens, just let it sit. If it goes for fifteen to twenty minutes without doing anything, something's probably wrong. Now mind you I have 0 experience uploading mods larger than just a few parts so this may not work, but my advice for you now would be to just let it try first.
  10. I don't think so. Here's what the Spaceport Upload page looks like: All you need is the file. Then you press "Choose File" and choose the folder you want to upload. Tell me if that works!
  11. Do you think it's a problem with Dropbox? The mod itself works fine, correct? Perhaps if you tried to upload it through a different medium (such as Spaceport) it would work better.
  12. Wasn't there a similar hearing (not full house, though) for Dennis Tito's Inspiration Mars program? I'm pretty sure they said no to that, and this is practically the exact same thing.
  13. This will make the game look so much better: I wonder how it will work with RSS?
  14. Project Zapad and the Beginning of Manned Exploration So, after the launchings of the first satellites, the Kerbal Space Program decided it was time to turn its attention to launching a Kerbal into space. They named the project "Zapad," which supposedly means "West" in an obscure alien tongue. It did not take long for them to design a booster: That's not to say there weren't problems. There were. But after all those kinks were worked out, the rocket was very successful. Here are pictures from one of the launches: There were 6 launches in total. Jebediah, Bill, Bob, Kering, Samman, and some other guy each went into orbit and performed a spacewalk. One even rendezvoused with a satellite: It is a powerful rocket. I got my apoapsis up pretty high and only spent a fourth of the fuel in the final stage. You know, this would make a really good one-person crew transport. It is practically flawless! Well then, I stand corrected. Once again, thank you for reading!
  15. Here is an image of Jupiter I took last night improved in GIMP and then overlaid onto another photo with the moons visible. The end product is not bad. It is a little out-of-focus though. Still working on that.
  16. How do an unmanned test to orbit, and then a manned circumlunar test? Or better yet, two circumlunar tests: one manned and one unmanned!
  17. So, after aggregating and installing most of the Realism Overhaul mods, I decided to restart the game yet again. RSS and other mods make the game much harder, and I figured I would post my successes and failures here for your amusement. If you haven't tried Realism Overhaul yet I really recommend it. NovaSilisko was right when he said KSP gives you a sense that space travel is easy: after a few hours of this you can appreciate the work the space programs of the world do to a much greater extent. Anyway, real-sized space program! I - Soviet Krussia and the Dawn of Satellites II - Project Zapad and the Beginning of Manned Exploration Soviet Krussia and the Dawn of Satellites I decided I was not going to bother with sub-orbital rockets in this save. We are a space program, not fascist Germany! Naturally, the first thing you send into space is a Sputnik analogue. Please put your hands together for Stayputnik-1! ... That was much less climatic than I thought it would be. But the satellite is nice and simple. Now, a launcher... By the way, this is totally not a Sputnik-PS rip-off. But let's put any potential copyright infringement aside. It is time to into space! Yeah, no. Attempt two is a little more successful: I took some liberties in the design of Stayputnik-2. Here it is in the VAB: I am almost moderately confident there is no dog in there. The launch of this satellite was nearly identical to that of its predecessor, so I won't post the images. However, here is a nice shot of the separation of the core stage: And here is the satellite in orbit: Laika, you're not coming home. And before you ask, yes, I did change the design of the satellite after I took that first screenshot. It was ugly. And such ended a historic day in Kerbal history. But, on the other side of the ocean, engineers were frantically scrambling together plans to build a rocket. The people of whatever-you-call-the-USA-analogue-in-this-game could not allow their enemy such a victory They had to build a bigger, better satellite, and for that, they needed a bigger, better booster. After "careful deliberation," the greatest minds of this as-of-yet unnamed superpower presented their idea, the Exploder-1 satellite, to the head of the national space program. And the booster they used to launch it was most certainly not based on the Jupiter-C rocket. Because it wasn't. That booster never reached space. It had problems. So many problems. So I made this booster: Which looks very similar, but is smaller and uses better engines (yay FASA!). And so, the launch. Not too many pictures in this one, unfortunately. I was so fed up with all of the time-consuming failures of the first booster I forgot to take more pictures. Anyway, the Exploder-2 craft was later sent up to remedy the fact that the Exploder-1 lacked any means of power generation. Careful deliberation indeed. So, that's all I have for now. I hope you enjoyed reading this!
  18. I use a lot of mods because they really can add a lot to the game, in my opinion. Most of the mods I have are involved with Realism Overhaul, but others I have to give me more flexibility with my designs (such as StretchyTanks and Procedural Fairings). I do have MechJeb, but I almost never use its autopilot. I like flying my rockets myself, and for this reason I do not have RemoteTech. I also have PlanetFactory for the extra planets to decorate my Solar System analogue (but I still need four more moons for Laythe [uranus analogue]). I can understand why some people might view mods with contempt, but KSP is still a work-in-progress, and user-created modifications allow each of us to complete it how we like. That is all.
  19. Tea all the way. To be or not to be?
  20. I find it useful to examine historical designs for inspiration. After that it is just a lot of tweaking around with your design until something works. You can do it!
  21. Many people would probably be frightened. After a certain point these beings would realize that they are stronger and smarter than most humans and that they don't need humans to tell them what to do. After that, the relationship between 'synthetics' and humans would fray dramatically. That could end quite badly for us. Hopefully if we respect such machines the way we respect humans, they will have no reason to hate us. I think turning a super-intelligent being who has the ability to wreak havoc on society through the internet against you is not a good idea.
  22. Actually, I think the opposite is true. Last I've heard nearly 30% of the world's population does not consider themselves religious, as opposed to the 5% in the 1940s. I may be wrong, but I am decently sure of that.
  23. These are not so much things that make me angry as things that make me sigh and place my head down on a desk quietly. - When the history teacher assigns a "huge" test on the day after next, and it turns out it wasn't a huge test. - The level of immaturity with which both the American and Iranian governments are handling the nuclear talks. - people who don't know the difference between cell-phone radiation and banana radiation. - The 40% of adults who deny the very observable process of evolution. - A video that was shown to me by a friend which complained about the victimization of Christian children in American schools (which is not the case by any stretch of the imagination). - The fact that many of the people in Science Bowl at my school, who are the most intelligent and scientifically literate people I know, know so little about the Solar System. Fortunately they do know the order of the planets, so they are mostly redeemed. Nothing's really making me angry right now, though. I suppose that's a good thing.
  24. Not as far as I know, but by using the Real Solar System plugin you can rearrange and rescale every celestial body at your will, so any planets you don't like can be plopped a few light-years away.
