Kerbal lost in orbit! HELP!
Omicron314 replied to GungaDin's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Or, if your craft is equipped with a docking port, you can build a small craft with a fuel tank and engine, dock with your craft, and deorbit using your probe as an engine. It (kind of) works if you don't have a docking port attached, to. You can position yourself so that you are "ahead" of the stranded capsule in orbit and slowly burn towards it. It's the same concept as "get out and push" only much, much faster. -
Quid agere debemus? Secundo, lingua Latina non est lingua vivens. Cur tu linguam Latinam didicistis? Commonete, imperium aeterne vivet!

Isn't gustatus a perfect participle, though? So shouldn't number 7 read "Tasted like a small chick/the young of an animal"? -

I use Procedural Fairings to conceal a probe core and SAS in every 2nd stage so that I can simply de-orbit the object after the payload is delivered. -

The word "miseram" has two meanings in Latin. One means "miserable" when using a feminine noun as a direct object (ex. I greet the miserable woman - feminam miseram saluto). The other means "I had sent." Latin has some weird homophones. -
Has anyone else seen this animation yet? Man, the Chinese know how to make one good cinematic. North Korea could learn a thing or two from them.

Should we start a Kickstarter to launch a bus into space?
Omicron314 replied to hawkinator's topic in The Lounge
If we're going to raise the money to launch a bus into space, why not, you know, an actual satellite? No idea what it would be useful for, though. EDIT: A Falcon 9 launch costs 56.5 million dollars. If all 96000 members of this forum donated an equal amount of money (highly unlikely), that's still about 600 dollars each. You would need to garner a lot of outside support for that, although admittedly a satellite (or even space bus) owned by the KSP community would be pretty neat. Also, where would we get the bus? That's probably costs a substantial amount as well. -

I personally believe there should be very stringent restrictions on owning guns. There is no good reason why you need a lethal firearm in your possession. It could be argued that it is useful for situations in which your life is in danger, but as potentially occurred in the case of Trayvon Martin here in the United States, that leniency can be abused. If a ban on most firearms is introduced, the number of homicides will almost certainly decline: the guns that remain in the hands of criminals will either be confiscated upon arrest or not used. Besides, it's already been conclusively proven that a greater number of guns in circulation results in a greater number of homicides, and I think we can all agree a greater number of homicides is a bad thing. I'm not concerned about "disarming the people" either. The thing is, if the government is "out to get you," and I'm not sure why they even would be in the first place, they have the ability to. It's not as if your measly little firearm will stop highly-trained government agents or a swarm of Reaper drones. I thought that after the Sandy Hook shootings, in which 20 kindergarten-age children were killed along with 6 teachers, this debate would be over, but apparently not. The apathy of American politicians is disappointing. -
Did it. So... when will we find out whether or not our spam attack - I mean, request - has been successful or not?

I've had some decently strange dreams lately. Last night I dreamt I went to Capitol Hill, removed the American flag from a flagpole, and raised the Roman flag (I take Latin at school). There were some protesters and security guards and such, but largely my activities just went unnoticed. I had a dream last year, though, that is worth sharing. It started on a sandy bank or a beach of some sort, but the ocean was enclosed by walls resulting in a lane about 7 or 8 meters wide. There was another beach maybe 21 to 24 meters away, and between the two was a large island with a beige sofa. I was accompanied by at least a dozen 7-year-olds wearing flotation devices, and the water was infested with piranhas. For some reason or another, we got into the water and swam to the large island. There were substantially fewer 7-year-olds with me now, and I was beginning to question whether or not this was a good idea. I sat down on the sofa, which then levitated several meters into the air and elongated so that I was able to just hop off onto the other bank. I then found myself in an antique shop situated in a hilly grassland accompanied by (I think) three people my own age. I caught sight of a mannequin head with with several pieces of blue plastic that looked like it came from a shredded balloon plastered to its face. I remembered I had found a similar piece of plastic earlier, so I retrieved that from my pocket and placed it onto the head. However, this displeased the shopkeeper, who picked up a heavy book he was keeping on his desk and threatened me with it. I backed out of the store, but he pursued me anyway. Afterwards, my companions and I entered a Mos-Eisley-eque city. We came to a 4-way crossroad, and 3 men leading camels and dressed in white tunics each with stripes of a different prime color came from the left and bowed to us. My three unseen companions rushed towards them and mounted the camels, leaving me at the mercy of the shopkeeper with the heavy book. I don't know what I did to deserve these kinds of dreams.

I've heard the average 20 year old male has an expected lifespan of 100 years, and the first person to live to 150 has already been born. I'm currently 13, so I'm expecting (read: desperately hoping) to live a little while into the 22nd century. This will be the most exciting time to be alive, as it will be the time in which humanity is tested. I have a decent chance of knowing whether humanity will destroy itself or not by the time I die. That thought is both frightening and exhilarating. I must say, I wont truly be content, though, until we detect signs of an alien civilization. Puts a little less moral responsibility on our (relatively) rather barbaric, primitive species.

Not necessarily true. It's common knowledge that more educated people have fewer children than non-educated ones. In addition, if people were aware of the problems that are facing them instead of sticking their heads in the ground like the ostriches they are and batting aside the problems for others to deal with, many of the other problems (global warming) would go away. The sad thing is the education system apparently exists to conform with everybody's dearly held beliefs. Thus we have government officials who flatly deny well-understood scientific concepts like climate change and evolution; lack of good science education leads to more denial of fact, more denial of fact means more stupid people, and, unfortunately, it is the stupid people who can shout the loudest.

My two cents on religion: while the books may have been written a long time ago and by less-than-civilized people, religious leaders know that they cannot preach such barbarism: societiecal norms prevent that. The problem is people use their religion as a way to reject science. Religion is static, unchanging. The Catholic Church just apologized to Galileo, after all. So when you give people this view of the universe that conflicts with everything they were brought up to believe, they'll reject it. And their kids reject it. That is the problem. And then sometimes they use it as a "Get out of morality free!" Card, by forcing their beliefs into their legislation and upon their employees. To me, it's absurd how forcing your employees to not have an abortion is practicing your religious freedom. It's not the fault of the philosophy: it's the fault of the people.

- Satellites (lots of them) - Manned mission to orbit - Munar Impact Probe (1 - 2) - Munar Satellites - Munar Lander Probe (3 - 4) - Manned Munar Orbit - Manned Munar Landing - Repeat for Minmus I've not gotten farther than Minmus (I don't play this game too religiously, and I always restart after each update (.22 will be the last time, I swear!), but I assume a similar operation will ensue for the planets as well.

Apathy. Too many times have I been told to stop worrying about a specific problem because I won't be alive to see the consequences, or it's not my job, surely other people will take care of it. Honestly, this kind of thinking will get us all killed. We need to work together to solve our problems as a species for the benefit of all.
