  1. That rocket has an awful lot of logos. An American flag, TASC, NASA, Orbital Sciences Corporation, ASP, and a few others I don't recognize or can't make out. Well, here's to hoping the launch goes according to plan.
  2. I don't doubt that nuclear weaponry is or was used at some point in nearly every civilization's history. I mean, once you learn that matter is comprised of atoms, which are held together by enormous amounts of energy, it doesn't take such a huge intellectual leap to say: "This would make a pretty awesome bomb." So if an alien civilization invades, nuclear weaponry will in all likelihood be completely ineffective. Sorry, Hollywood.
  3. 7.5/10. I personally like the games, but GLaDOS is kind of creepy.
  4. Granted. The Soviets got to the Moon before the USA did, thus leading all nations to adopt Stalin-type communism. I wish people would stop fawning over famous people and athletes, and start fawning over scientists, mathematicians, aerospace engineers, and the space program.
  5. I just wish they could remove the social aspect of school. I'm just not that kind of person. Today I got scolded for recording the responses to the questions posed by the Name Game (your name + where you'd rather be) despite the fact that there was no rule expressly forbidding this and I was 21st. What are they trying to do, help us learn each others' names, or do some controlled scientific study on the cognitive functions of 8th graders?
  6. That's really too bad. That guy could have killed someone but he gets off with not even a warning. Sometimes the judicial system makes me sad. Fortunately you were all okay, though.
  7. Is the orbit stable? Maybe one day we can retrieve it and bring it... Somewhere, I don't know. That's not my department.
  8. I started playing this game and found it highly entertaining. I left it at having a few grandma helpers making maybe 15 cookies per second and when I got out of the shower, the rest of my family was huddled around the computer. Apparently in the time I was gone, they got cookie farms, cookie factories, cookie mines, and shipments of cookies coming in from Cookie Planet. All in all, they were making 400 cookies per second. Now they are at over 2,000 cookies per second. I can't wrest them off the computer. This is being sent from a mobile device. This could totally be an iOS application, though. Sepne should contact the creator of the game to tell him (I don't do social media). EDIT: Oh, wait, never mind. This is planned. Can't wait for my iPhone to melt its face off!
  9. I do it quite a lot. I mainly stay in the Science Labs because admittedly, real life, while sometimes disappointing, is what really matters. Only the science, though. I don't care about anything but science. Maybe politics, too. But mostly science.
  10. Also related, Google is hosting a new contest, promising 20 million USD to the first company to send a probe to the Moon, land it, and have it perform various functions. I believe the deadline is 2015, so that's certainly something to be excited about.
  11. Granted, but that's your only wish. In effect, nothing changes. I wish I was better at texturing in Gimp.
  12. Really minor update. 0.2.2 just does a bit of work on the coloration of the tanks. I am still trying to get the brushes back into Gimp (they all disappeared after I reopened the leftmost window after closing it) to improve it further. I still can't figure out the airlock/ladder thing, though.
  13. These are very nice images! My family has been thinking about pooling together our money to buy a nice telescope to photograph the planets (I really want to see Neptune in person!) but we haven't quite decided on one. Maybe showing them these pictures will help speed along the decision. And I am currently up at 2:30 AM because I am waiting for Jupiter to rise. It will be right next to the Moon, at least where I am.
  14. Interesting. I tried Falcon Heavy, Thor, and Gliese 667. They all worked. I even tried getting from the first link on Philosophy to Philosophy. No such luck. I wonder if there is a reason for this...?
  15. Yes, I've looked at that. This is just supposed to be a fun little project. It's a shame this thing was never actually built, though.
  16. Hi guys. I just thought I'd share something I've been working on lately. Using Blender, I made a model of the canceled Orion nuclear pulse rocket. I wasn't sure where to put this, but I chose here because it's not exactly KSP-related, and it's not real life either. But anyway, here are a few pictures. The starship itself. With pedestal. I would like to print it out sometime but I'm worried about it coming out badly. I'd probably have to print out individual components and glue them together like a model rocket. Either way, tell me what you think!
  17. Sounded more like the Monoliths' creepy theme song than "Also Sprach Zarathustra".
  18. Today I learned that neutrinos are created when protons turn into a neutron and positron. Also, yesterday my dad and I figured out that, assuming the speed of light is constant in the higher dimensions, the Alcubierre drive does not travel through the 4th dimension.
  19. Not bad, I suppose. Just about on the national average.
  20. Fake a report of oil on the Moon. We'll be there by the end of next week.
  21. Let's see, a new name is added once every 5.7 seconds on average as far as I can tell, and with about 8040 names to go, this will take about 26 and a half more minutes. That seems too fast, but math, I suppose.
  22. How's eleven black belts for you? EDIT: Ninja'd.
  23. No evidence to the contrary, or else climate scientists would not be in complete agreement. The only reason this is difficult is because there are a lot of stupid people in the country. Anyway, signed. We need to get a famous person to support this. Does anyone here know any famous people? Actually, scratch that. Someone tell Bill Nye about this!
