Female Kerbals
TheCanadianVendingMachine posted a topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Here we go, a discussion I hope will go smoothly. I state my point of Female Kerbals being "stupid", and that they shouldn't be the main stated feature (other than aero). For all we know, it will be aerodynamics that could be god-awful, and a different sprite. I think that they should of not had the Female Kerbal be the "Mystery Feature", when instead it could be for something that could be useful. Like editor changes, or planetary additions. Or engine updates It also annoys me to bits that people are turning this into a sexism issue. Who cares? The fact that it may be a bit more "bringing" to little girls? Lets discuss as civilized people Source: https://twitter.com/Maxmaps/status/558778656579805184 -
You are correct, but the fact that this feature is the one that was announced is astonishing. I would rather something else to be announced. If this wasn't the feature that seems to be hording the spotlight, I would personally be less angry.

Misogyny: dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudice against women. Doesn't seem like any of that by not adding a 3d model, that is USELESS

Yea, but there are other suggestions that would actually aid the game. Like the "Don't use physics unless something hits it". And "Weather!", and "Balance this so its more inline with the game". Don't forget things that would take less than a day, like "Spotlights to the launch pad". if (timeOfDay >= 18:00 && timeOfDay <= 6:00) { spotlight.shine() } Although I don't know the base code, this seems simple enough.

Great. Female Kerbals. They used their valuable art team to make something that is completely and utterly UNNECESSARY. I would of loved it if they put that time into Clouds, or better textures for the Mun, and ground scatter. Now, you may be saying "Hurr sexism". WHO THE HECK CARES?! "Herp little girls wont play teh gam jurr". So it's the developers that HAVE to add a female, to answer the minority?

How about a [function] tag. Lets people say the same thing just by calling it

[programmer] But goto is an unsafe command and is a security hazard! [/programmer] Seriously, though, this is a great feature

Let's see. Making games realistic isn't fun. Operation Flashpoint was released in 2001. And it was realistic. It modeled bullet physics, and a basic flight model. It modeled fatigue and injury. And it was very fun. Why? Because it had a editor, and mods. To many people, this was the most realistic game ever made. And it was, to a point. Flash-forward 8 years, and ARMA 2 was released. This was the most realistic game, to the point where a slightly advanced, MORE REALISTIC version was developed by the same company to give to many militaries for training. But the base game was still realistic, adding a semi-real flight model, bullet physics, fatigue, injury and all of that. And it was STILL FUN. Why? Because it was REALISTIC (To a point). Now, I don't want KSP to become a N-Body, wait 5 years for a perfect launch window, worry about weather game. But, I do want it to have realism. DCS shows what can be achieved with a perfect simulation, and you will see it has a very niche audience. But KSP however, isn't that. It should have shock heating, aerodynamics that make sense, BASIC orbital physics, and that. But it shouldn't be so real that I have to worry about decaying orbits. (In the stock game).

Primary thing I noticed - "Closer to reality" Do you realize KSP isn't supposed to model NASA? Maybe the Kerbal's don't know how to put enough life support in a 2.5m capsule yet. And 5.5 meter? That's quite a jump from - 0.625 - 1.25 - 2.5 - 3.75 - (4.0) - (5.25)* *Brackets are for parts that are not modeled in game, but showing how the parts should scale.
