My second attempt was good enough, even with lots of spare fuel: (Its an aerospike at the end) My first attempt used a NERVA instead of the aerospike (8000m/s DV) but the T/W was to low to overcome the drag at 118km. With the aerospike it was quite simple, i burned retrograde until i reentered without leaving the atmosphere. When i was at 118km i did the reseach and started burning 45° upwards to gain altitude fast, because the drag is quite high...

The problem is that i want to return a kerbal, and with a balloon you would loose all your horizontal velocity and then its very hard to get back to orbit. But in one hour im back home and can start testing...
-
I read in the wiki that you have to be on a suborbital trajectory or it will count as a "in space near". To avoid gettig torn of the ladder i plan to store the brave kerbal in a cargobay or similar...
-
That is just insane I dont want to go far below the 118km needed for inner atmosphere science, so it will be a lot easier. Perhaps a large B9 rocketplane with a droptank will be enough...

Interstellar is to overpowered in my opinion, especialy with the energy transfer over long distances. And i think a ballon wouldnt work since you cant keep any of the orbital velocity and you need an even larger rocket to get back to speed. I have no idea how the kethane engines perform at high speeds, perhaps its enough in combination with FAR that i dont loose to much velocity. Sadly im not able to test stuff since im not at home right now

Im currently designing a mission architecture to colltect every single bit of science in the Kerbol system, including Jools atmosphere. Since i want to do that without loosing a single Kerbal just dropping him with an antenna attached isnt an option i need some sort of Spaceplane which should be able to return to orbit... Im considering a Kethane Plane, what would you do?

I would suggest adding parts that can be used in 2,5m or even 3.75m crafts. The current 1.25m are hard to integrade in larger spaceships...

[1.3] Kerbal Joint Reinforcement v3.3.3 7/24/17
Elthy replied to ferram4's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Does this plugin also affect dockingports? And if yes, also the 3,75m one from KW-Rocketry?- 2,647 replies

Any hint when you are going to release a "large" version of the centrifuge? The only thing you would have to change is the size of the airlock...

Rocketbuilding as a hobby... What is allowed in you country?
Elthy replied to Elthy's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I understand that launching bigger rockets is quite dangerous when you dont have big empty areas like in the USA. But its even impossible to do some static tests in Germany, i would like to develop, test and improve rocket-motors rather than buying them... -
I was planning to build a rocket as a hobby, because i thought it would be fun and i like to think about the theory (calculating how high it would go and then test it) and also because i realy need a real life hobby. But when i started research i noticed that you cant do anything fun in Germany. The biggest thing you can launch on your own would be a rocket with 20g Blackpowder as propellant (ISP only 40-80), with a special course we could use up to 150g, but only premade motors. Its also not possible to buy KNO3 (for R-Candy, a easy to handle Propellant with an ISP of 130) as a private Person, nearly anything related to it is prohibited. So there is no way to do something fun, i planned to launch a rocket with a Raspberry Pi and a camera to do some pics. Is stuff like this prohibited in your country too? In germany its all forbidden due to terror-danger (but the bad guys get their stuff somewhere else) how about e.g. the USA, with their extreme fear of terror?

(Relatively) Good Gaming computer for under 1000$
Elthy replied to Skyler4856's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I have no ideas how the prices are outside Germany, but if a FX isnt 80$ cheaper than the cheapest Intel Haswell quadcore you should choose Intel, since Minecraft and KSP need high per-core performance. I wont recomend overcklocking if you dont know what you are doing (apparently you dont since you cant build your iwn pc) and it makes stuff more expensive, because you have to buy a unlocked CPU (with a "K" at the end of the Number) and you need a good, expensive cooler, too. But you dont need a expensive mainboard, the chipset is the only important thing, you only need better components if you do extreme overcklocking... Regarding the GPU: If you dont want to play games like Crysis 3 of Battlefield you are better of with a medium GPU like the R9 270X and you should spend the saved money on a SSD, which improves the loadingtimes of everything installed, including the OS... -
I would like a larger version of the centrifuge with a 2.5m or even a 3.75m base. It wont fit in the KW fairings anymore but right now it just seems so ... fragile. Afaik there is a way to do this with a simple .cfg edit, but i think its more than just changing the rescale-factor, isn't it?

Nice one! But i thought my rocket would be slightly larger on the pic

Here it is: http://www.file-upload.net/download-8284077/RaredensRocket.craft.html Mod: KW Rocketry, B9 Im sad that this will be your last piece of art for a while
-
I will upload it when im home again, but that will take some hours. If you need it now i can explain how to build it...
-
Not Stock, but KW Rocketry is simply to awesome... I messed up a little with the separation boosters, but i already fixed it. That Rocket doesnt realy get to orbit, but i think it looks perfekt... I will provide the .craft file if you demand it, Raeden. Edit: Another Image:

Regarding the memory problems: The new .tga textures are much bigger than the old PNGs. They have the same Resolution (1024*1024) but the .tga files are about 8 times as big: The "old" Sabre Engine M has two textures, the "model_sabre_250.png" (466kb) and the "model_sabre_250_emissive.png" (57.7kb), the "new" Sabre Engine M has 2 textures with the same name, but in .tga. They are much bigger, 4097kb and 3073kb. Im not sure how KSP loades textures, but this would match the increased Ram consumption...

Does this mod only change the view from orbit or the ground (when i'm landed), too?
