Sorry, it's the first time I've embedded an imgur album... couldn't understand how it worked...

Update! I made a space version of the F7A Hornet! Well, sorta... it was only in orbit for a short time... The landing was a disaster... too many hills...
-
I suggest there be a ski-jump ramp placed somewhere on the runway so it makes things easy for planes to take off. A lot of planes and attempted spaceplanes I design tend to take off once they run off the other end of the runway. Of course, there's the risk the plane may not be straight by the time it reaches the end of the runway and possibly hit one of the lights on that end. A ski-jump ramp in the right place could reduce the chance of the plane veering off.

Oh, I wish this thing was capable of going into space, but making an SSTO out of it would be really difficult...

I'm definitely looking forward to the upcoming game Star Citizen so I built a ship based on the F7A Hornet from that game. All stock parts. ***Update 10/11/14*** I just updated the F7 Hornet with new stock parts from version 0.25 Craft file: http://www./view/h68n19nvft9f7j6/F7_Hornet.craft The old version is here I did what I can to stay close to the ship design. The only modification I made is adding a second engine. Getting this plane off the ground is no easy task, but once it is, it's easy to fly. By the time it hits Mach 2, better have the RCS on. Here's a ship from Wing Commander IV - The Price of Freedom. The F-104 Bearcat! This ship can take off after it reaches the runway... Past Mach 4! Mach 5! Then the engines cut off from no air shortly after... Began to slow down after the burnout Looked for a place to land due to low fuel Not-so-perfect landing... lost the lower engines... Tried to steer this thing in better spot, but the small hills made the ship flip over to its side and it break apart... at least that Kerbal pilot survived... This is what the ship actually looks like from WC4 http://www.wcnews.com/wcpedia/Bearcat Craft file: http://www./view/7p93di4sy9j9alm/F-104%20Bearcat.craft

Here's something from Wing Commander I. The A-14 Raptor. It's space version only. The ship itself is all stock, but I used KW rocketry to launch it into space. You'll have to use whatever means to launch it. Raptor reentering the atmosphere Flying over the desert I was getting low on fuel, so I deployed my parachutes and crash landed. I didn't put any landing gear on this thing... The original design had a stock liquid-fueled rocket engine in the middle... craft file: http://www./view/3izwakpr3nj4b96/A-14%20Raptor.craft

Cripes, I haven't been on KSP for a long time... anyway, I like to show you a ship that's considered my all-time favorite. Say hello to the Confederation's F-57 Sabre! Before you download this, you must have the B9 Aerospace and Taverio mods. For now I use these mods in order to match the appearance of the ships in Wing Commander. If a stock version is possible, I'll try to work on it. Craft file: http://www./view/m8v1fozwvrgq9d9/F-57%2520Sabre.craft Also, I suggest that you take off at the right time. Too fast, and it'll skid out of control...

Hey, everyone! Check out the new improved version of the Dralthi (Wing Commander I). Made with all stock parts. This looks closer to the WC1 design than my first Dralthi... This one is labeled as the Dralthi II... Craft file: http://www./download/g8241bpqc33b406/Dralthi_II.craft What I did here is place the girders on the sides and stack the wing structures until the wings formed something resembling a semi-circle... I also placed some more girders and rcs tanks on the front edges of the wings just to move the center of mass forward This thing flies like a beauty... but taking off is a bit delicate because the ventral fins are close to the ground... Heatin' up at Mach 2 I landed the Dralthi II on this little island, but clipped the ventral tail fins in the process...
-
I suppose most of you may pass this craft off as a Dralthi, but it is in fact the Drakhri from Wing Commander II. All stock parts... a lot of them... Craft file: http://www./download/rm7tvbve27ech9r/Drakhri.craft Found a way to make semi-circular wings by placing a small wing structure and placing another on that existing wing structure and so on... but since it didn't make a semi-circle, I had to improvise a bit... despite the best I could do, it's a bit aerodynamically unstable... I was so close to getting Mach 3 but the engines burned out on me...

Here's the WC3 version of the Bloodfang, flown by none other than the Kilrathi Crown Prince Thrakath nar Kiranka. Made with all stock parts... Craft file: http://www./download/mcrqpditubyh7n4/Bloodfang_II.craft Due to its asymmetrical nature, flying this ship is tricky as hell... so it's recommended to have the ASAS on and the throttle at 1/3 power. It's a friggin' deathtrap for Kerbal pilots if not flown properly...
-
Some of the Kilrathi designs from WC3 can be done, but for ones that have asymmetrical wing designs, they may not be flyable (in fact, it would probably just veer off the runway). But I still might try to work on some of them... while I'm at it, I may work on some Kilrathi capital ship designs (from WC1 and WC2 preferably).

Here's the most common Kilrathi fighter you would see... the Dralthi IV And this is the Krant. -
Ok guys, I created a stock version of the Kilrathi's Dralthi IV. Craft file: http://www./download/wttguu15ud76hrp/Dralthi_IV_(Stock).craft It seems that from Wing Commander III onward, the Kilrathi ships are asymmetrical in design, so when flying this thing in KSP you'll have to have the ASAS turned on and have to keep reorienting it because of the asymmetrical design of the cockpit This thing can fly well... as long as you keep it in control... It has a tendency to tilt and lean rightward... I was going up high so fast, that by the time I cut the engines as the intake air cut off, I was already high enough to be floating in space if only briefly... When I reactivated the engines, I managed to get the Dralthi IV to go into Mach 4.
-
Check out this short-range Kilrathi interceptor! The Krant. It can easily go Mach 3. Craft file: http://www./download/9wlitkelu7457nd/Krant.craft Due to the limited variety of stock parts for the wings, I had to use Taverio's Aerospace pack to get the right shapes.

KIDI- Kerbal Interplanetary Defence Initiative

Unfortunately it's not stock... it's predominantly B9 Aerospace parts and uses the Attachment pack 06... I was able to launch the first two components into orbit (the flight deck component was by pseudo-ssto and the bridge component with KW Boosters), but the third component (engine deck) had to be hyperedited since it's practically impossible to send that thing into space... As for the front deck, I should have placed docking ports there... -

The TCS Tiger's Claw.... or should I call it the KCS Kerbal Claw? -
So yeah, the whole ship itself is largely made out of B9 parts. Since the ship is divided into three components, I also use docking struts from the Attachment Pack 06 so I can keep the components in place once docked. Some places have stock parts and the attachable bridge is just a cupola with two RCS tanks and RCS nozzles with an ASAS. Which can go into orbit so far? Flight Deck component - It can be done by taking off from the runway. And then once you're like near 1200 m/s, you switch the engine modes and jettison the wings. Bridge Deck component - I used KW Rocketry Boosters and engines to get this into orbit. It'll probably run out of fuel by the time it's in full orbit, so you might want to launch a refueling ship and dock it into one of the bridge deck's ports. Engine Deck component - Practically, I haven't found a way to get this off the ground and I got a little impatient so I used hyperedit.
-
I thought of putting docking bays on the deck... but the flight deck component was already launched into orbit (pseudo-SSTO). However, I do have another docking bay and it's on the bottom of the ship itself... I was going to put something there to make it match whatever dangles below it... I think I made the flight deck a little too long. I used the wcnews site for references to Wing Commander ships. And looking at your version of the Tiger's Claw, I have to say that must have taken some special mod to get that thing in orbit...
-
Behold! The TCS Tiger's Claw! Or you could call it the KCS Kerbal Claw... The first two components are launchable... but for the third one (the engine deck), I had to resort to hyperediting... the 2nd component (the bridge deck) used the KW Rocketry boosters and engines in order to get it into orbit...
-
I need help trying to launch this component into space... this was built in the spaceplane hangar and it's 60-something tons... for now I removed the engines and wings to show what the component is by itself... I'm trying to figure out what's the best method to get this thing in the air and into orbit. This used the B9 Aerospace mod and the "Attachment Pack 06" Craft file: http://www./download/dbdwhmfy5xfxu0p/Tiger's_Claw_Bridge_Deck.craft In my other tries, I put large wings from the B9 mod on the sides (with decouplers and struts) and fly it... Even though I managed to get in space, its periapsis was well short of 70 km...
-
Did you clip off the wing on take off?
-
I'll try to do that.... it's just that it's difficult to stay true to some WC designs using only stock parts...
-
Here it is. The Bloodfang. Based on the WC2 version that was flown by the Kilrathi Crown Prince Thrakath Nar Kiranka. I added a couple of things to make it stable. It flies well... but below 10 km in altitude... any higher than that and it noses up. You'll need the B9 Aerospace pack for this to work Craft file: http://www./download/3uau727mqzobbkk/Bloodfang.craft And here's the Wing Commander 3 version of the Dralthi. The Dralthi IV. Unfortunately in KSP, due to the asymmetrical nature of the cockpit design, the Dralthi IV tends to tilt rightwards in flight. This is what happens when you try to stay true to the design... This craft will need the Taverio Aerospace pack and B9 Aerospace pack for this to work. Craft file: http://www./download/71ad3edci5ozm9t/Dralthi_IV.craft
-
I only had one Kilrathi ship and that's the Dralthi... I could work on those other Dralthi models or something like a Drakhri, Sartha, or a Krant...
