Here's chapter 8! Yeah, I know that was a cheap narrative trick. I couldn't resist. Sorry. I promise not to do it ever again! Next time someone dies in the story, it will be because I screwed up a mission and will be for real!

The technicians are still investigating the accident, but at this time it's believed that the lack of action group tech was a contributing factor to the tragedy. Parachutes were at the last stage, and by the time Jeb gave up trying to control the rocket and decided to "manually" abort, there wasn't enough time for him to click through all the stages. If only he had thought to activate the chutes via right-click menu... Currently the theory is that one or more struts were not correctly loaded on launch. It's been discussed the addition of a "Struts check" to the pre-flight checklist.

Glery is not from that far into the future, only a few years (she's definitely old enough to have been born by now). Also, who knows if her being in the present hasn't changed things? After all, R&D might have not developed that ship design so early, if she didn't suggested it. I promise things will make more sense in the next episode. Either that or it'll complicate even more.

If I were to guess, I'd say he's going for a powered landing, with refueling on the surface. Why would the lander have a docking port on the bottom, if not to dock with a ISRU module?

Well, technically you can compare them. What I meant is that a story is good if it succeeds at what it's trying to do, and we can't really judge it by the standards of a different type of story. I don't think Eve: Order Zero is trying to be intriguing, so we can't fault it for being less intriguing than Plan Kappa, and it certainly isn't less interesting because of it. Sure you can like one more than the other, but that's more because you like one flavor/genre more than the other than a measure of the value of the story. I think Kuzzter's stories are very good at what they set out to do, and can only hope that Plan Kappa will be as good at what it's trying to do, which is something a bit different.

Well, I guess we can't really compare, since I'm going for a slightly different genre here. Kuzzter's stories are way more funny and adventure focused, while mine perhaps has a higher dose of mystery. They're similar in format, but have different flavors. And since reading them is free, you may as well enjoy all of them!

Nice job, that's pretty neat!

Somehow I read this and though you were talking about them stealing snacks. I swear it was written "spacechips". That's what sleep deprivation does to you, I guess...

Also, it doesn't help that Mort keeps doing the Mr. Burns "excellent" pose. Hope they manage to grow some potatoes on Eve...

Yeah, I know that. I'm just assuming they haven't thought of it (or if they did, decided not to tell Jeb so he would follow the plan). I may do a Mun flyby with that ship now that I picked the contract for that, and I can't research solar panels until the new R&D buildings are finished.

I bet they're wishing fourth-wall-breaking was in the same category as aerobraking. They could use a little less speed right now.- 598 replies

Yeah, but I'm also making a rule of respecting both the runway's and the hamgar's weight/part limits. I think that's the smallest and simplest shuttle I've ever built.

MK16 Parachute Killing my Kerbals
Parkaboy replied to MajorThomas's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
That's weird, the chute works perfectly for me most of the time, as long as I open it when it's safe (right click it to know if it is). It only fails like that if the speed is to high and the trajectory not shallow enough. If you're coming back from the Mun or higher, don't aim straight down, set your periapsis just above the surface. That way there's more atmosphere to reduce your speed. -
Yeah it worked pretty well. The Queasy mk1 doesn't go that high (about 90km) so it doesn't has that much velocity to bleed. The temperature bars don't even show up during reentry. I only have to be careful to reach the runway with enough speed, or it loses lift and turns into a brick.
