Took a break from the game and robbed a few banks with some friends. (Payday 2 is a nice sequel.) Though always kept watching KSP videos, stalked and poked the forums, and today caught up on this thread - about 20 pages. Tried to built a interstellar ship the way I imagined it, but it didn't quite work out and lost a bit of drive over it. Three weeks of vacation coming up, lots of time to get into it once again. Those little gizmos on the craft! Makes it look quite real - like a privateer's patched workhorse. That you staid on the mission despite all obstacles and the time spent on failed attempts is a feat in its own right! Tell us, how do you fly them in formation?! This I did too - while reading you post!
-
And I will agree with you and add, that as long as it is nothing fundamental in the game which is so difficult that it can only be done with additional help, it should be left alone as the challenge it was meant to be.
-
So, could you calculate this weeks lottery numbers ...

[0.90] Magic Smoke Industries Infernal Robotics - 0.19.3

Where does the second parachute come from? I have been trying recently to cfg edit me a parachute with built in second drogue. -
Would a third mode make any sense? A sandbox with science tree - just without missions and budget ...

I only think the new Mun is to dark - sure, it is not meant to be Moon, but Id like to be it more white than black.
-
May it rest in peace in its honorary place side by side with Firefly.

It was not easy to pick a prefix for this thread. http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0037300 tl/dr: Walking on water is possible for humans when on the moon. This years Ig-Nobel winner in physics.

Yes, I agree, hostilities here are either way inappropriate. But depending on the tone, the origin or cause of the hostilities might be something else. Simply declaring "ribbons, stock only" is different from "ribbons, without cheaty mods" as in "You dont deserve to wear this uniform, tank!" (nerd-points for recognizing the reference) Challenges can have a set of rules to make the different contributions comparable - if the challenge aims for comparability or to set level ground for every participant, it is easier to forbid all mods then to come up with a never complete black list. If a player wants to participate in a challenge but not abide to the rules, he is free to launch his own challenge with a "all mods allowed" or "only mods x,y,z" rule set. I think most posters are not offended by different playstyles, but the way others show disrespect towards another person for the way they play a game. (similarities to other political/social topics like: *stopped by forum rules*)

The biggest reason for this would be that landing at a specific location would be easier with a glider than thumbaiming an atmospheric trajectory - as mentioned before.

Add the implementation of the "snap to" functions of the VAB and we could really build in space instead of docking. I mean we would still launch the parts into orbit and "dock", but instead of using docking ports the parts - or assemblies if possible, had to be - would merge as if built in the VAB, welded so to speak. To make this easier the connection points would be predefined in VAB, simultanously marking the points the craft is to be broken up into assemblies which then can be stuffed into a space planes cargo hold or tied to a rocket.
-
I dont think that a "mobile VAB" would need much less resources then the full game, at least when it comes to RAM, especially when mods are included. But I am John Snow regarding the real capabilities of todays smartphones - which are the only thing we would need to talk about, I dont see the need for a smaller app for building only when using an notebook.

You didnt upload this cuty anywhere by chance?

Electric propeller planes anyone?

Go to a high (rather wide scan field at equator) slightly inclined orbit (5 deg from polar maybe) and set to 50x time acc. - tab out, stalk the forums, watch some entertaining/educational vids on youtube, talk to your family, pet your pet ... return to a complete map in under 1h for sure.
-
I read the post about a file saving multiple instances of the same scanned "dot" - or something along the lines - but I didnt quite get it: Is the multiple scanning of parts of the planet/moon surface the reason for the map file being so big and choking the RAM? How exactly could this be remedied?

[1.3.1] Ferram Aerospace Research: v0.15.9.1 "Liepmann" 4/2/18
KerbMav replied to ferram4's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I read about this only days ago! Sure, I saw no wobbling at all and didnt place any struts - I even removed the ones I placed out of habit during my x redesign ... so, if that is really the reason ... argh!! Still a change then - hmm ... seems I will have two missions in two parallel universes then! ;p- 14,073 replies

Which means if I try a land-and-return from Eve, I wont have the same experience with FAR as far as the special Eve-Challenge is concerned.- 14,073 replies

Copy your game folder to another location to avoid accidental (Steamish) updates and keep everything as it is for as long as you want. If certain parts/mods are the only trouble during an update, copy your save file, remove in this copy the "offending" parts from your launched crafts where possible, remove crafts entirely that are not modular enough to do this and edit them out of your designs for relaunching them in the updated version - move so edited copy to the game folder of the new version - cross fingers.

Youre point came through. If someone builds an impressively designed space station and hexes it up into orbit, it still is an impressively designed space station. He wont receive credits in the rocketry department, but he will receive credits at being a skillful architect. If someone assembles a big interplanetary ship with different landers, probes, satellites ... all well balanced and packed into a sound and functional vessel with cute little gizmos and all, and then lets an autopilot fly it from planet to planet and land the pods etc.: points for engineering ingenuity, though none for piloting. To invalidate an accomplishment as a whole just for not doing EVERYTHING ELSE the same way as Mr Stock ... those are the people I dearly hope to never have children.

Are you timing your departure for a reasonable planetary alignment? http://ksp.olex.biz/ At the right time, try targeting the planet and creating several nodes: One to bring your orbit around the star close to the one of your target, then one on the AN/DN point of the plotted course to align the inclination (up and down).
