  1. THat is an excellent report. I am not the programmer and understood all of what you were going for (or at least, I feel I did). I hope this gets more attention.
  2. Bump from the depth of Hell : I really think this suggestion should get *again* some visibility. It's been a while since I play KSP, and these last months, I've gotten into lightweight probes and have to say : balancing a goo cannister (0.015 + physics) with an Communotron (0.005t - physics), a thermometer (0.005t - physics) and an accelerometer (0.005t - physics) should be possible. I think this is a great gameplay issue concerning this design niche. Feel free to bury that back, as long as it triggers something for the future developpement of the game
  3. I think this would be more fit as a mod, since these are visual "instagram" options that add nothing to the game. None of these filters seems to involve a peculiar missions status, nor any useful infos for the player, except for the dimming, which IMO is an interesting feature, as it tells something (lack of power) without the need to look at numbers. Frame bending woulg be cool if it was a way to tell the G you are taking in IVA. (until there is so much G there is a bit of a blackout). So, I'd say yes, much support for your idea, as long as they are IVA features. Such features in "3rd person" would be quirky as Kerb.
  4. The forum is a vocal minority, whereas Reddit's system of trending is based on silent upvoters supporting the links they like the best. Where a simple feature requested by very few on the forums could be very noticable, on Reddit it would almost immediately be buried under what most people are going to get the most interest for. That makes the forum and reddit very different tools, and Reddit happens to be the one that is better a conveying a global feeling of what the community likes best, using a few submitters that will answer to the AMAs and announcements to upvote the advice they agrre with, unlike the usual "I like this" and the myriad of "me too !" that happens on the forums, and micght be painful to read. 5. I think you are wrong, it is impossible to bring the same experiment twice in a command pod. Do 2 Goo analyzes near kerbin, and try to stock both. Both will go in the EVA Suit, but only one will be allowed in the command pod. However, if you have both of these done in different "biomes", they will fit in, with no problem. Edit : Scratch that, my answer is based on a bad reading.
  6. I understand your point of view, and accept it's validity. Nonetheless, I disagree. I must at least make amend and asking for the "what not to suggest" was a bit harsh, as loong as the final implementation is CLEARLY and DISTINCTLY funny (as would say my ol'pal Descartes ). I still disagree wholeheartedly, but will refrain from bringing this suggestion to the block.
  7. I think this will be relevant, when (if) we have a surface sample/analysis part for probes. For now, you can store as much surface samples in a manned pod as you want, as long as there are no duplicates. To circumvent this, you can add a second command pod, and take note of what samples are in each.
  8. I agree, this is content that just doesn't fit into the KSP ambiance. I really think the "more kerbal ways to die" suggestions should go to the what not to suggest list, as these are becoming more and more twisted and hypocritically "not gore".
  9. Here I present to you : The Purple wolverine. It surprisingly crashed on Eve with all it's critical instrument still working. It is a probe, as always. It runs on Xenon, is terribly overfueled and quite maneuverable with it's set of linear RCS ports. It is originally designed to fit in a KW expanded 1.25m fairing. 10. I see a lot of these and give the same advice as Cpt Kipard. But lately, I thought that this is nonsense. Saves are not the problem. It is reloading, and reverting flight that are. So, why couldn't you ust disable the reverting options, and let the saves do their job : preventing any problemes following a CTD or even the effects of a power failure ?
  11. What kind of dark magic is that ? I have no idea of what you may have done, let alone how it works D:
  12. Revert to launch can be disabled. As for now, it is just a line in the persistent.sfs, but I guess this statement could be made false during the flight, and brought back to true once the player goes back to the space center or fails critically. I can easily understand if some contracts came with a warning such as "this is an experimental component, so saves will be impossible during the initial flight". And this would be a good thig as to give player a hardcore challenge in the middle of an otherwise "forgiving" game during the initial flight stage.
  13. I edit my Kerbals using the persistent file. Because I want Panaka Kerman to fly my planes.
  14. Well, that close to Sol, you'd only have pop corn fields. I want to see that, with popped corn simulated using a particles model.
  15. I agree with imax. your article will be easier to grasp for the newbies if you add pictures. Can you make an addendum that explains how it impacts inerplanetary travel ? It is the part that confuses me
  16. All the way with OP. Immersion is good, and you can just have to tweak the fuel and plug an new payload as you need. It would be cool if this reduces recovery costs to 0 as there was none of it (refurbishing doesn't make sense to me, gameplay-wise, if you made an S-grade flight back keep all the money !). Refuelling and the new payload will cost you anyway.
  17. MK1 : Can you explain what overhead means in that context ? Is it like a "performance thresholds" thing ? (None of the translations I found made sense once fitted in your sentence, sorry. Also, the userbase for such an app would likely be restricted to people with quite wide screens (maybe to a minimun of 4"). Under that, I agree that UI design would be a journey and a half And for the school/work argument, I agree with Karolus. Portability isn't a matter of procrastination, we already have the forum for that
  18. I do not know about programming, but I think this little UI mockup I did could be convincing to those thinking such an app would be limited to 2d designs. http://imgur.com/4HmLKHH I'm on my phone righ now, so, sorry for the lack of paragraph laying out.
  19. Please, Stratoroc, don't make it another "slow and painful death" thread. (I don't remember you making any, but we had enough ) But yes, I'm all in for more living quarters and such "vanity parts" as long as you don't feel the need to turn KSP into a Lovecraft novel. We already havve a Kraken, let's not add the metaphor of existential angst to it
  20. I agree at first, but then remember that as an extensive user of probe cores, we already have enough of that. Since the Xenon propeller has been overpowered, you can make very light probes with no problems. You may object that Materials and Goo are a bit heavy, but I think this would be going over the CubeSat initiative scope, as these experiment belong more with the main mission, weight-wise (considering that CubeSat is supposed to be an add-on that can be carried if the main mission's payload is light enough). Seriously, consider that a stayputnik, with batteries, solar planels, antennaes, thermo and gravio-meters is mostly made of weightless and physicsless parts, and your suggestion becomes moot until we have no more physicsless parts, nor massless ones.
  21. I agree with OP. Kerbal stats should matter. Do you think "PR specialists" could be fun to have ? Like Col. Chris Kerman bringing you lots of REP but almost no science if you put him in a MPL in LKO ?
  22. AS much as I can try to think of it being a problem, the end of massless parts isn't one at all. People doing assymetrical probes will still have enough control authority to pilot their robots, and in case they do not anymore, they just have a new challenge (dumb duplication isn't the only way to go and I'm sure you are aware of it, do some geometry). Challenge : i.e. renewed source of fun. And finally, the quite obvious : people who really want it, but do dot now, will be satisfied. Tell me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that it is quite a good thing : people get what they want without preventing the others from enjoying their playstyles. EDIT : and also, no 2 Tons electric gear unnacounted for.
  23. ah, yes, tat's sensible. I was thinking from an actual flight. I know that I can Alt-f4 from a Dark souls save without ever going back to the menu, and it saves before closing (discovered that by not wanting to use the menu after a bonfire). So I figured it would be the same here.
  24. Maybe, but STOCK, and this is why this isn't a mod request, but a dev thread. Have a nice day
