  1. Well I was thinking if the docking port is at the top of a rocket and engines are at the bottom, it would enter prograde so the heatshield is at the front, then once you're well into the atmosphere the airbrakes flip the rocket over so the engines are pointing down for powered landing. No, thank you, the ring was a good idea.
  2. Yeah, I plan on making a separate version the way you describe it. The reason this one folds all the way down is because I'm making a reusable second stage (like the Falcon 9's) where it starts open since it's in the middle of the stack (and the shields are flat against the rocket), and then closes as a heat shield for reentry. But now that I think about it.. there's a better way I could have made a dockable heatshield... What do you think about giving the plates aerodynamic properties, so when they are deployed at 180 degrees, they act as an air brake?
  3. Okay so I tried out making just the ring, and it works well under most engines. The nuclear engine doesn't work though, since the fairings are jettisoned when you stage the engine, so the docking ring just hovers there under the engine. I might remodel and/or retexture the docking rings, so when I make a new batch, I'll include that fairingless ring. I'm also working on a shielded Sr. docking port, since I need one for a craft I'm working on.
  4. Hmm that's strange. Seems to work for me. I'll post the youtube on the OP just in case.
  5. Yeah, just with that line, nothing happens. And a print of the throttle value returns 0. Everything I've tried so far seems to work in 0.7 though, and this thing is sweet! I can't wait to show off what I'm making when its done haha.
  6. I just installed the latest version and isn't working for me... Anyone know what might be wrong?Edit: I read some more and it looks like this is happening in .84. I'll try .7.
  7. Ohh that makes sense. Doing that will cause the stock engine fairings to appear, which I guess is nice.
  8. Cool, thanks! I'm currently working on an upgrade, where the second stage and SM are reusable.. muahhaha. It won't be stock though =\
  9. Wow! I'm flattered that this made it onto KSP weekly! Since you all are enjoying it, I'll do a full length version soon and I'll keep those pointers in mind. If someone makes a universe replacer-like mod where music can be replaced I'll try to do covers of the other songs too. (or maybe I'll make them regardless) Merinsan, theres quite a wide variety of metal out there. I guess this would kinda fall under progressive metal, or even "djent" if that could be called a subgenre.
  10. Ohh I didn't read properly and didn't realize the challenge was to bring your craft back to the launch pad. Haha oh well
  11. There! Two command pods to the space station using the same first stage. Minus points for not doing the whole island thing.. Plus points for no mechjeb?
  12. Do you have to land at the island airport? I'm working on one that lands back at KSC. Edit: I just finished recording it. It was quite exciting and close because I only had enough fuel to make it back to the edge of the beach, with only enough fuel to run out about 15m above the ground, and the SM of the command pod had only enough fuel to bring it almost to a space station (and RCS the rest of the way). It was a good challenge even without trying to ship the first stage back from the island. That could be hard mode haha.
  13. Makes sense. Anyways, I kept it short in case I wanted to use it as a short video intro, and tbh because I was too lazy to do the whole song and keep it interesting haha.
  14. Out of curiosity, why do people suddenly have low expectations when they see "prog metal" or "metal"?
  15. Thanks fellas! Glad you liked it. I don't remember where I heard this but I thought that the intro was by Harvester, and not by Kevin MacLeod.
  16. Hey guys. I'm a progressive metal musician that plays KSP way too much, so I thought I'd give a go at covering the intro song in my style (which is epic orchestral progressive metal)! Check it out. Update 1/14/2014: Pizzaoverhead has released a mod that allows you to replace music in Kerbal Space Program. Some of you have asked if there's a way to replace in the intro music with this song. Now you can! http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/65726-0-23-Soundtrack-Editor At the moment, the mod requires sound files to be .ogg or .wav, so I am releasing a re-mastered version with an ogg file available. EDIT: I believe there is mp3 support now. Remastered KSP Metal Intro Song: Dropbox MP3: kspthemeR.mp3 Dropbox OGG: kspthemeR.ogg Update 11/1/13: Did a little bit of the space music: https://soundcloud.com/bahamutod/kspspaceb1 Update 10/26/13: New extended version with a little music video of random KSP clips. Mp3 download: http://www.sendspace.com/file/hv2sph First version: https://soundcloud.com/bahamutod/k-s-p-thememetal Side question: Do you think it would be copyright infringement if I used it as an intro to my youtube ksp videos with ads?
  17. All the joints are setup so it is possible, but I doubt I have enough fingers to control it properly haha
  18. I love how you clipped the rockets into the jets. I would've thought that the clipping would interfere with the thrust. Makes for a nice stock sabre engine!
  19. I can't tell if you're already doing this but the ridges on the nozzle are perfect for using Normal mapping. Looks like it will save you alot of tri's.
  20. Hmm, not sure what you mean by a fairingless version. Could you explain or sketch it up in paint or something?
  21. I think it would be nice if you were rewarded for getting it right the first time, so as you gain experience and learn to plan missions better, you get a better outcome.
  22. I took my mech suit to the Mun and back.. I tried to do it again and capture a video but this time around didn't go as well.. Lost an arm and didn't have enough fuel to return. oh well
  23. I made a SSTO to carry a heavy and very... special.. payload to orbit. I think I may try that vtol to orbit then to helipad without refueling challenge. I did vtol>orbit>refuel>helipad>orbit before but the refuel was required for balance reasons. It will still be a challenge making a new plane that maintains balance through the trip.
  24. Landed my mech on the mun and returned "successfully" . I'll make a video soon..
  25. Gimballin RCS! I wanted to do this when I saw the control systems on the Star Citizen ships. Cool!
